I have asked a few people and I'm still curious to see what other opinions I can get. I know that his mom is 100% Basset Hound. Because he was a abandoned with his mother at 4 weeks and rescued by me at 6 weeks, no one knows who fathered him.

A lot of opinions have been that his dad was probably a Blue Heeler. Any other thoughts?

I think your guess is probably right, though it is really hard to the color pattern and detail in the pictures. But that bluish grained fur definitely makes me believe heeler.

But hounds can be blue, too.

What breeds are common in the area he's from?

I honestly haven't seen tons of Blue Heelers around but I'm not even 100% sure of where he came from. There seem to be a lot of Beagles and Coon Hounds in the area. I could see him being mixed with one of those.

Bluetick coonhounds have ticking and many times mixes of their breeds are mistaken for heeler mixes. It's just more people are aware of cattle dogs rather than the blueticks.

Beagles sometimes can have similar coloring as well.

While thinking about the actual anatomy of dogs, I would have to say that his father probably isn't a very tall breed. I have photos of his mother and I don't think it's physically possible for a dog that is too high off of the ground to be his father....if you know what I mean. Haha

Here is a photo of him compared to his mom. I think they look a lot alike.
