Squeeky is the biggest cuddler ever ! Anytime I am on the computer she has to lay on my lap where she is right now. If I am lying on the couch watching tv, she jumps up and has to lay on my chest or right beside me. Of course she sleeps in bed with me, and cuddles real close. She is the most affectionate dog I have ever had and I love it.

My first Pom, Sabian, was very independant. He really didn't cuddle, he went off and did his own thing. My sisters Pom, Cliche, she likes to sit in your lap, ALL THE TIME, she'll let you hold her, hug her, etc; Pidgeon is a lil of both. Likes going off doing his own thing but if I pick him up and set him in my lap theres about a 50/50 chance he'll stay there and let me hug and cuddle him or squirm, get up and start chasing around the cat, lol

As for your question, I found this on a pom website about the differences between male and female poms.

"Most prospective Pomeranian puppy purchasers seem to believe that a female Pomeranian Puppy will be the best choice.

Most enquiries for pet Pomeranian Puppies are for a sweet little girl puppy. This is probably true of enquiries for most toy breeds of dogs, in stark contrast to the larger breeds of dog, where enquiries are usually for Male Puppies. With the largest and most "macho" boy puppy in the litter sold first.

Prospective Pomeranian Puppy buyers seem to have this idea that little girl Pomeranians are, sweet, docile, attentive, obedient and easier to house train than male Pomeranian Puppies.

In reality this is a myth. Pomeranian Females usually rule the roost, determine pecking order and can be very dominant.

Female Pomeranians can be very independent, aloof, stubborn and very territorial. Female Pomeranians like to exercise there dominance over their Human and Pomeranian family members.

Most fights in a kennel situation will break out between two girl Pomeranians fighting for dominance. There is a reason people utilize the technical term "bitch" in a negative way.

Male Pomeranians on the other hand are usually more affectionate, exuberant, steadfast, less moody, attentive and more demanding of attention from their human family. Male Pomeranians become very attached to their Human family. Boy Pomeranians are more accepting of other pets. Boy Pomeranians are in most instances easily motivated by praise and food, thus making training easier.

Male Pomeranians can be easily distracted from training as they retain puppy like behavior all through there life ,Male Pomeranians can be very fun loving, act silly-like and will want to play games well into old-age.

Neutered Boy Pomeranians rarely exhibit secondary sexual behavior such as "humping".or
"marking". Once the testosterone levels settle after de sexing, most of these behaviors [ if they ever existed] will disappear. Boy Pomeranians should be neutered early at around 4 to 6 months of age. The cost of desexing a male Pomeranian is usually around half the cost of de sexing a Female Pomeranian. Unless you intend Breeding and Exhibiting Pomeranians you should not be planning litters.

House training a Boy or Girl Pomeranian is exactly the same. An untrained or badly trained Girl Pomeranian, will just as quickly back up to an item in your home and pee on it.

Female Pomeranians will usually come for attention, and when she has had enough, she will move away. While Boy Pomeranians are always waiting on attention from their human family.

Girl Pomeranians are usually less distracted during training, as the Girl Pomeranian will want to get this training thing, over and done with so, she can get back up onto the comfy sofa. A Female Pomeranian can be quite resourceful in getting her own way.

You should only purchase your Pomeranian Puppy from a reputable registered Pomeranian Breeder. Elsewhere on this site I have a section on how and where to purchase a Pomeranian Puppy, this section has a list of important questions to ask the Pomeranian Breeder.

The correct size Pomeranians. i.e. Pomeranians bred to the Pomeranian breed Standard only have very small litters. One to three puppies being the norm. Most often there is more boy puppies in each litter.

Registered Pomeranian Breeders breed mainly to produce show Pomeranians and if there is a girl in the litter, that puppy will often be the puppy retained by the Breeder of the Pomeranian litter. So quality girl Pomeranian Puppies are rarely available as pets."

But with that being said, all pups are different in personality, as my first male pom wasn't much of a cuddler himself, he was a bit more on the bigger side too.

I'll be honest, neither Ninja nor Sweeney are keen on the snuggling. Ninja will cuddle up to you when he wants to cuddle... but as soon as you put your arm around him, he gets up, grunts, and walks away. Likewise, if you try to force him to cuddle... he'll get up, grunt, and walk away. Sweeney, I suspect would be a cuddler if he weren't so playful! Every time I try to cuddle with that one, he insists on kissing me a million times or wriggling out of my grasp to fetch a squeaky toy and ask me to play. He never cuddles. When he sleeps, he prefers doing so either in his crate, on his favorite chair by himself, or on a blanket on the floor. None of this bothers me too much as I've never been much for cuddling myself. Sandy isn't a cuddler, either (not a Pom, but a small dog) and I've made due. She sleeps at the foot of my bed, that's good enough for me. Though, admittedly, she will huff and move to her crate if I toss and turn too much or hog the blanket. After a while, you get used to having dogs that don't cuddle much. They show affection in their own little ways. smile

Pidgeon: That article is great. I was always told by my mother that her females were always the more independent and "dominant" out of her bunch and that the males were always more friendly and affectionate. She preferred females, but everyone has a preference... Ninja and Sweeney are very friendly and affectionate. Just like I've always been told males are. hi5 They're just not big on cuddling.
