I read an article that was connected to the "75 dog breeds banned or restricted" and noticed that one paragraph mentioned that rather than list a breed and that breed mixes, some laws were written as a description of that breed. For example (but not an actual law), rather than banning a rottie, the law could have been written that all dogs with short, mostly black fur with tan eyebrows are banned. I think that the author then looked for all dogs that matched that description and said that rotties, min pins, manchester terriors, datchounds, and any other breed that could have black fur and brown eyebrows were banned.
I looked through the list of dogs banned that was organized by state and could not find more than pits, GSD, rotties, dobes, etc.
I did find a list of dog breeds that someone had compiled that listed any injuries/deaths caused by dogs and organized by breed. That is another possible source of the 75 list. It had listed quite a few breeds but was only a study and noted that several of the dogs that caused deaths, including the Golden and Pug were accidental and playful. For example the golden had accidentally strangled a child by playing tup with the child's scarf. It is kind of horrifying but the dog was being playful, not malicious.
The more research I do, the more convinced that the person who wrote about the 75 banned breeds just wants to create a panic or bring more attention to BSL.
These are just my thoughts. If anyone finds more info that contridicts my thoughts, I would love to hear it. But so far, no one has been able to say where specifically some of these dogs (pug, lab, golden, etc) are banned.

The Eskimo? Chow Chow? Are you sure this is a COMPLETE AN ACCURATE LIST? Half of the dogs on here are small dogs and most of the dogs listed...period.....are docile! It's not the dogs, it's the owners.

I was very shocked to see Boxers on the list, I have been trying to see what the restriction is here in my state if any yet!! I think this whole thing is way out of hand and as a proud Boxer owner I will do my part. A boxer come on there so sweet and loving, he has two Chihuahua sisters and he has a healthy respect for them!!

It is an accurate list... in Europe there are 94 breeds ( not all in one place ) right down to the welsh corgi. So you have to be careful of where you go and make sure you know every dog that is on the list in that area.

just because a dog was originally bred for fighting dosnt mean they automatically have fighting in them now pits dont have some kind of super magic gene thats passed on to their litter no scientific evidence whatsoever...

You guys, this leads me to a very scary realization. I've read a few times over just in this post that they might as well ban ALL dogs... well that is pretty much what PETA is trying to do. They want to have ALL dogs spayed or neutered and even legal upstanding breeders shut down... they in effect want to end pet ownership all together. Everyone thinks that PETA is all for helping the animals but most people never take the time to go to the PETA website and look for their actual statements and core values, especially on pet ownership all around. Now I am not saying that there is some conspiracy theory about PETA getting involved and passing all these laws or at least getting the ball rolling on them... I AM saying that between states banning breeds at will and PETA having their own agenda of ending the life cycle of dogs in general we are quickly headed to a nation where no one will have a pet at all. Now I do understand that there are far too many people who love and support their dogs to ever let this happen... but if states keep passing BSL at will without ever taking it up with everyone or even not having a NATIONAL law about pet ownership it's going to be like fireworks. Some places you can have them and some places you can't. It's a scary scary time people.

So true... you can't rely on the state or province saying there is no BSL law there because every town / city / village or whatever can inact it. You wouldn't know unless you contacted that place. Then you can't even rely on the clerk or whoever to tell you the law there. I know this because a friend of mine almost lost her SD dog because they were told there was no BSL in that town they wanted to move to and there was. They came 2 days after they moved in to shoot the dog. For no other reason then just the breed. They were given a dog license BEFORE they bought the house and moved there stating the dog is a rottweiler. The person who issued the license is the same person who told them there was no ban on rotts and the same person who is in charge of the dog laws for the public. Go figure. So no matter where you go ALWAYS double and triple check and even get it in writing on what the laws are.
