What the heck is this?!

Okami, I agree that you shouldn't feel silly. I would have had my dog to the vet pretty darn quickly for something like that, too. There were so many things that this could have been...I was thinking old sutures, hernia or botfly. But sometimes malignant cysts have that dark color and yucky discharge, and that's not something I'd want to throw around on the internet and scare ppl unnecessarily=not helpful, better to honestly say I'd have a vet look asap.

Best to err on the side of caution. I'm so glad that Okami is just fine! Thanks for updating, I learned something...I've never seen a hair follicle look quite like that BOL!

Thanks everyone for your concern. And Lucille, yeah I know the best thing was to rush her to the vet as I did, I'm just so relieved that it wasn't anything worse!

And I would have never guessed that that was a hair follicle either. That was the last thing I would have ever thought of laugh out loud

At least I also got her vaccines updated while I was there, bol

Even an infected hair follicle can cause trouble.
My dad had a severe case of cellulitis in a leg in 2010. Started in his knee and by the time they got it under control with surgery, the entire leg was infected. The skin swelled so bad they were afraid it was going to slough off and his skin color has never returned to normal, it is a purple-black color.

His team of surgeons, doctors and specialists think it might have started with an infected hair follicle!

Chance-good grief, all that because of a hair follicle?! That's crazy. I'm all the more glad that I got Okami to the vet so quickly. The vet squeezed out as much of the gunk that she could and then gave us some antibiotics to take home. I will be keeping a much closer eye on it from now on just to be sure it doesn't get all clogged up again.
