Lethargic Poodle

This forum is for dog lovers seeking everyday advice and suggestions on health-related issues. Remember, however, that advice on a public forum simply can't be a substitute for proper medical attention. Only your vet can say assuredly what is best for your dog.

Corey has been really lethargic lately. He is usually quite active, loves to play, and enjoys eating. Two days ago he started to act a bit depressed and not really interested in playing. He just wants to lay on the couch all day long. He is still eating and drinking, but not with as much gusto as before. I'm a bit worried, but I'm wondering if this could just be him getting older. Corey is 10 years old, but Toy Poodles live a long time. I know he is considered a senior, but in my eyes he is still my puppy. Any idea why he is so lethargic and not wanting to play anymore? I might just be overreacting, but he is my baby.

Anytime you see such a marked change in activity level, appetite, etc. it is time for a vet visit.

Our vet is closed today. Can I wait until Monday, or do you think this is an emergency? He seems perfectly fine otherwise, except for a little vomit this morning.

So long as he's eating, drinking, there is no blood in either vomit or stool, and he does not appear in distress, you can likely wait until Monday morning. I hope he's ok.

Thank you. The vomit was just clear foam. He is eating and drinking fine. I'm going to be calling first thing tomorow morning. He hasn't vomited today, but is still fairly lethargic. He isn't wanting to play like usual, but still loves eating. I'm still worried and keeping an eye on him. He is just laying on my bed right now, starring at me. It is very cute. He definately seems a lot weaker today. He is kind of like a limp little ragdoll when I pick him up.
