Can dogs get SHIN SPLINTS?

This forum is for dog lovers seeking everyday advice and suggestions on health-related issues. Remember, however, that advice on a public forum simply can't be a substitute for proper medical attention. Only your vet can say assuredly what is best for your dog.

Every two or three months Kitai will go lame on a walk. He'll be trotting along then all of a sudden he will go lame on a front leg. If I rub the shaft of the leg for about 15 seconds it goes away and we continue on with the walk as if nothing happened.

Just now he very dramatically limped into the bedroom bearing almost no weight on his left front paw. I rubbed his front leg and he was fine.

It reminds me of when my Dad gets shin splints. So I was wondering if dogs can get shin splints. Has this happened to anyone elses dog?
