Choosing the Right Dog

GO!
If you are wondering what is the right dog for you, this is the place to be. In this introductory forum we talk about topics such as breed vs. mix, size, age, grooming, breeders, shelters, rescues as well as requirements for exercise, space and care. No question is too silly here. This particular forum is for getting and giving helpful, nice advice. It is definitely not a forum for criticizing someone else's opinion, knowledge or advice. This forum is all about tail wagging and learning.

What other breeds has your purebred been mistaken for?

I'm not purebred, but people always think I'm a Springer Spaniel pup! Some people think I'm a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and one person even thought I had Papillion!!!

hmm cody a purebred australian shepherd often is mistaken for a chow chow one time someone thought he was an irish setter with short trimmed hair and a docked tail when actualy he was born without a tail at all.hes also been called a tailess golden retrevier. a person even asked me if he was a loghaired chocolate labradore i told them that i honestly dont think that exists but there is a such thing as golden retreiver.but what gets me is my mothers husband my step father still to this day argues that cody is a smaller version with a docked tail of a chow chow and hes been informed many times of his actual breed.

Because Chloe is still very young, and a natural eared Great Dane, I hear people call her a "skinny black lab" more often than I care to!

Pookie isn't purebred but gets mistaken as a Japanese Chin, which is a purebred, dog if that counts. Very close to ones with less short faces, but her ears stick up.

DUBLINS- SECRET

I think...- therefore I herd- !!!

Barked: Tue Jun 30, '09 12:06am PST
Even though Secret is a card carrying Bearded Collie who weighs only 38 pounds and is 19 inches at the withers , she has only been identified correctly 14 times in 3 and a half years (9 groomers 4 owners). The other 500,000 or more people shes met here in Las vegas (Cal.-New Mex) think she is an Old English Sheepdog. A lot of these people will go as far to argue with you ..... like I was duped and lied to by her breeder.

One poor misinformed chap went off on me (15 to 20 people standing there) claiming that his parents bred OES's for 20 years and that Secret was grossly malnurished...badly bred OESheepdog. He left mumbling (loudly) that I should be reported for cruelty....geez !!!
