So I have my first ever Cavalier and let me say I am IN LOVE! She is the sweetest little girl I have ever known. I have two questions. First of all, she seems to have dry skin. She gets flakes. Second of all I was just wondering about her coat. She has the beautiful spaniel feathering on her head ears and legs. but her back is like a teddy bear fuzz. I am guessing thats puppy fur. How long until she gets her full coat in?

Sorry for being so long in answering your post. Cavaliers don't get their full coats until about 2 years of age. As for the flakes, she may need to have some oil added to her food (like salmon/fish oil or coconut oil). You might check the fat content of the food you're feeding, too, to see if it's enough to support her coat. Btw, there is a facebook page for Black & Tans, in case you didn't know about it. Check it out. I have 3 Cavaliers: Stella Agnes (11 year old Blenheim), Hazel Louise (will be 5 this year and is a Black & Tan), and Laverne Marie (will be 7 this year and is a Ruby). Love Cavaliers....I will always have at least one!

Thank you so much Hazel Louise...we took her to the vet for her dry skin and they had NO advice. She said maybe she'll outgrow it. She did a skin scraping for mites and checked for fleas none of either. Thanks for the advice. Wheres the cavalier forum you were talking about? She is one of the greatest dogs I have ever owned. Smart sweet and beautiful. She is also SUPER sensitive. A angry voice, picking her up to fast or even one of the other dogs bump into her she SCREAMS....any advice?
