Arrival Story:
I used to foster dogs and she was one of my fosters. Things were really slow with the econmy and our business was feeling the pinch, I had told the group that I was going to lay off fostering for a while and focus on the business.... then I got an email. The Dog Department leader just got in a dog she knew I would love and asked if maybe I could foster another, she just needs a break she said..... then she sent me her picture and I fell in love. Picked her up the next day, and I was instantly smitten. She was beautiful and so sweet, but she had some shyness issues, she would't even go near my Husband for 3-4 hours but loved attention I was giving her and eventually we talked her into letting my Husband give her a belly rub!!! Then came the neighbors, she would shy away from everyone at first but twice daily mile walks around a busy neighborhood with lots of kids, people, dogs and smells has done wonders for her, she is now very social! Lucia had Kennel Cough when we first got her so It was at least 2 weeks before they put her image on the website, the whole time I was thinking..... I am not quite sure I will ever find anybody for this dog that I would approve of.... she needs to be with me ~ BUT in the intrum we had decided we were going to move back home to Texas... we were going to wait until we got home to get another dog of our own (ours passed almost 2 years ago and we were fostering because we weren't quite ready yet for another dog, we were still in pain over our loss) I thought my Husband was right and that surely there will be someone else who will be perfect for her!!! Well sure enough the applications started rolling in. I was getting more nervous by the minute, this dog completely stole my heart, she makes me laugh every day, she is a wonderful wonderful dog ( I cant imagine why on earth she was a stray). Anyway, I went to the first meet and greet and cried to every person that came to meet her.... HA!!! I tried but the applicants didnt fit her personality or needs anyway..... my Husband loved her too, and one day he just looked at me and said "we cant find this dog another home, she belongs with us.... she's got to be a Texas Dog" !!! Lucia had no idea why she got a bazillion hugs and belly rubs that night or why mommy was crying and laughing but she didnt care, she just wiggled her whole self and enjoyed it !!!! We are now looking forward to the long drive from Pennsylvania to Texas with our slobber dog.... everyone there already loves her too!!!
