Well today I turn 8 yrs old. I don't know what is in store for me today because my family is packing for their move and they are so busy with their newborn named Rex.
Rex came Easter weekend. A big boy weighing 9lbs 2oz. I like him but I'm not too concerned with him. Oh, I'll pop my nose in once in a while to check up on him but it's just for curiousity sake. I'll see how I like him later when he's doing things. Right now I just want to figure out how my day's gonna pan out.

Thanks for the love and support. Duke is home and I thought I was rid of him for good. No I did not aid in his being stolen but I did not show him a happy reuinion. You'd never know it on his end because he loves me anyway.

After cutting my nails Momma discovered gross hotspots between my toes on my rear feet. The puss and smell was yucky. She had been trying to stop me from licking them for a day or two before but my long fur hid the problem well. Now it's meds and getting well.
No cone head was needed this time around luckily the Clavamox and peroxide worked miracles. I am feeling much better. Between my toes has almost healed completely. :)
I think my new year's resolution should be to try not to bite myself so much this year. It is very hard thing to do because when something is irritating all I want to do is fix the irritation and biting at the problem tends to make it feel better --for the moment.

Lovely day at the beach.
We did a lot of swimming today.
We also had a beautiful picinic on the sand.
A full day of Sun, Sand, and water. It was great.
Not everyday can you dig until your hearts content with your family cheering you on the whole way.

Doing alright even with the cracking, gun powder smells, and firelights in the sky
BANG!!!
Spoke too soon. Gotta hide.
I'm back.
Dang that just happened, too, as I was having Momma enter my diary entry for me.
Gonna keep a low profile and keep up the good work.
The day is almost over.
I'll make it.

We got to go swimming at the cottage today.
I mean actually Swimming!
Yes, they made me try this again. I don't know if you know this but I've been swimming once before. My parents tried to teach me and it was a bust.
I was young and too scared not to let my paws touch the ground.
I scrached them both all up and tried to claw my way up them and out of the water.
I did much better this time.
I did some swimming -not just wading like I usually do.
It took some coaxing as you would imagine but not much. I came fairly willingly into deep water but it was difficult for me to let my feet off the bottom.
Luckily I had my life vest on and I could feel the boyancy before I had time to invest too much thought on the subject. Dad told Momma to take the vest off and let me try swimming with out it. I did alright. I could keep myself from drowning but it was very splashy. I did give Momma some new scratches but I did much better than last time. I wasn't scared of everything like I was when I was a pup.
I swam pretty well with the vest but Paisley was better than me and this made me angry.
Dogster pals, you know I like being the best at everything so seeing her take to the water like a duckling made me see red. I've tried this a few times without success and even earlier I jumped out of the boat and went head under the channel water which is gross. I was all dark with green stuff on me...little light green speckles like a frog.
By the way, on our boat ride we got a stow away. It was a tree frog. He was good company. Momma picked him up and he jumped from arm to arm for her. Then he jumped and climed all over the boat but we lost track of him. He probably took the ride until his stop and hopped off.
But back to what I was saying before I got side tracked. I got real mad at Paisley for being so good at swimming so I just had to dunk her. I'd see her paddling by and I would deliberly spring out of the water and jump on her head. Plunk she'd go under water and come up shaking the water out of her ears and nose.
Maybe you want to think it was an accident but as nice as that is of you it was no accident. I did it on purpose...four...no I think five times. It made me feel much better about my short comings when I saw the little Paisley fish flounder under the water.
Don't judge me too poorly. I think you would have done the same. She did try to get revenge but she didn't think it through. If you get dunked you shouldn't try to dunk the Dunker -you should get them back in a way that is unexpected. I knew she would try this and I was ready for her. She never had a chance.
I hope we go to the beach again this summer. I hear there are some nice dog beaches near our new place in the city. Chicago boasts of some good dog parks too. Some exploring is in order. I need some more practice with this new swimming talent.
Love your Pal,
Ruby Dust

I got myself a hot spot again.
Momma had to put a cone on my head.
Then I wore it a couple days and banged it on everything until it broke. Then I didn't have to wear it any more.
Momma started taking me to work with her so I can stop chewing on myself.
She gave me a bath at the grooming salon at her work and dried me with the quick dryer...brrr. Cold stuff but I'm tough.
The next day she took me back to work and asked the groomer to shave me...so guess what...Brrr. BOL! Cold again. Just kidding. I don't get cold from a buzz cut.
It's only March. I usually don't get shaved until May/June but then again I usually don't get hot spots until it's hotter out.
Momma said I did really good at day care.
I love making Momma proud.

Thanks Dogster and all our friends for your help. Heidi's family came forth to claim her. Her owners came to pick her up (2-13-11)Sunday night. Her real name is Cookie that's why she answered to Heidi - The "Y" sound is very pronounced in both. Wonder why she didn't answer to the other y-sounding names ::Shrugs Shoulders::
Her Mate Fonzi is still missing. So anyone in Chicagoland if you come accross a black and red male GSD let us know. We've still got their phone number if anything turns up.
There was also a foster family that was lined up to take her the same day. They drove for an hour and a half to our house to meet her. The foster home brought their female dog Miley over for a play date to meet the GSD at that time called Heidi. We felt really bad because she was only 20 minutes away when we got the phone call that Cookie's possible owners were looking for her. We called the foster family and found out how close they were and still offered for them to continue the drive and worse comes to worse Miley could have a nice time playing with us.
Miley thought I was the best thing since table scraps. When I came outside all she wanted to do was play with me. It's too bad Momma's camera wasn't working or I'd be in some of those pictures. Karen used her camera phone to snap a few good ones.
The pictures that didn't come out blurry are on Facebook right now.

We were all happy she didn't have to get re-adjusted at a new home before finding her family. The foster family obviously wanted to keep her if her family wouldn't have come forth so we had drawn up a very extensive pet contract stating that she wasn't ours and they would be taking care of her until her family came forth.
Luckily everything worked itself out!
We still felt bad that the Foster family had to drive home empty handed but they told us it was fine and they had a great time.
Their pups & kitties are now on Dogster and Catster.
You can find them all through Miley's page if you'd like to be friends with them:

If you live by these dog rules, you will be a happier person!
There's a lot we humans can learn from dogs. If you live your life by the same philosophy that dogs do, you will be much better off in life. In the wild, animals fight only for two things, not a fancy car, not clothes or jewelry, they just fight for food or a mate, everything else they get after that is just pure happiness.
Dog Philosophy:
1. Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joy ride.
2. Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.
3. When loved ones come home, always run and greet them.
4. When it's in your best interest, always practice obedience.
5. Let others know when they've invaded your territory.
6.Take naps and always stretch before rising.
7. Run, romp and play daily.
8. Eat with gusto and enthusiasm.
9. Be loyal.
10. Never pretend to be something you're not.
11. If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
12. When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently.
13. Delight in the simple joys of a long walk.
14. Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
15. Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
16. On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
17. When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
18. No matter how often you are criticized, don't buy into the guilt thing and pout. Run right back and make friends.
