~Adopt 2012 Contest~

I'm a survivor from day 1. I survived a big hurricane in Galveston in 2008 called Hurricane Ike. I was found a few days after the storm, & after I was born. My mother had left me & my brother. Me & my brother were found under a deserted porch by a shelter called "Opration Kindness". We were tooken to the shelter that day, which is in Dallas, TX.

I was bottle fed by nice people, although at night I was put into a big, cold, scary cage. That happened every day and every night, for 7 weeks. After one more week, me & my brother had gotten so big. I was living in this teeny tiny cage with him, as I guess they had no other room because of all the rescue dogs that came in from Ike.

One day, this girl & her mom came by my cage. I wagged my tail, & put my nose against her hand through the cage. She was warm & happy. She stood by my cage for a while then asked to take me out. I got so excited my whole body was shaking with happiness.
They took me to this room & & snuggled & played with her, & finally I learned her name was Sabrina. Finally she said "Mom. I want this one."

I laid in her lap as they were going over adoption papers and all this boring stuff that I didn't really know what was going on at the time. But I felt so safe in her arms.
Apparantly I wasn't ready to be picked up for a few more days, but after those few days came & went, finally I was picked up.

The shelter worker set me on the ground & I just ran into my new mommy's arms. I felt safe & free. There was so much adventure I was missing out on being in that shelter. I couldn't wait to be with her every day fr the rest of my life.

I remember a week after I was adopted, I was taken to the vet because I was sick. Really sick. The vet had told us it could be distemper, & I remember seeing my mommy's eyes fill up with tears, and he held me tight & cried "I don't wanna lose you." I didn't really know what was going on, but I kept looking at her & I knew something was wrong, I just didn't know what. However, when I was put on antibiotics & the tests came back, it turns out I just had really bad kennel cough.

I couldn't be a happier dog today. I live with 4 other roommates (3 chihuahuas, and a poodle), & they are so much fun to play with. I have comfy bedss & couches I like to sleep on, & a nice place to walk with my mommy every day.
It's strange how things work out, before my mommy came to the shelter, she was looking for a purebred, & I'm definitely not a purebred. But I stole her heart the second she saw me, when my puppy eyes lit up, & I knew her "standards", and what she was planning on wanting dropped automatically.

She said it's the best decision she's ever made by saving me. It makes her feel good inside, & like she'll always have a best friend. And she will. I'm with her day and night; the nights filled with crying, the days when she's sick, I'm always there. When she goes out, I'm there right by the door waiting for her to come home. For 4 years I've been loyal to her, & I will be loyal to her forever, because she's my mommy, & I love her, & I know she loves me right back.

~Poem time~

Oh how I had a rough day,
Under a porch in Galveston I was forced to lay
Before I was young and weak,
There was no mother, that I could seek.
Hurricane Ike, I was definitely scared,
Me and my brother, under a porch we shared
Now at my nice home, so exciting and nice,
Not at the shelter or Galveston, where I almost had to sacrifice.

I am back! To stay!! :-)

I decided to have "If Everyone Cared" by Nickelback to be my main song on my page. It's a very moving song, and it really can relate to when dogs are in shelters, or when a lucky dog (like me), was adopted from a shelter. My mom wasn't even looking for a mixed breed or anything. She wanted a purebred. But she saw my eyes and I saw hers, and it was true love! :-)

awwwwwwwww, my mom is getting mushy and stuff! NO! :D

Anyways, I have little chickadees as my background! I hope everyone is doing well and everyone has an awesome Easter, and dogs, get some chocolateee! :P

Letter from Momma to MEEE :D

Dear Sparky,

First I had one dog. Then I proved responsibility for 2. Then 3 dogs. Then 4 dogs. It took me a year to beg my parents for another one. Finally my step dad agreed to it, and it took me a long time to find the perfect dog. I went to some pet stores (which I know are NOT good at all to buy dogs, but I was just looking) and I went online to breeders and rescues and none of them REALLY caught my eye. I went to the shelter where I volunteer, and found you as a little 8 week old puppy. You couldn't be tooken to a new home without getting neutered first, (which took two days) but I somehow managed to wait. ;) I read your story online and you had a rough start to life. I wanted to give you another start! :)

Now your just soo clumsy and happy with your life, and you make me laugh ALL the time!

Your owner and best friend, Sabrina ;)

Poem for Sparky

This amazing poem was written by my great pal Gigi!

Those Eyes, That Smile, That Shiny Black Fur
He is so handsome his name should be SIR

Instead he's called Sparky or Sparticus
he's one of those guys that causes a fuss.

He is interesting... does some uncommon things
like chewing on caps and licking computer screens.

From Hurricane Ike this pup did survive
he is lucky he is even alive

But luckier still is his family
because he is the best dog a dog can be.

When he is happy he will chase his tail
It will bring a smile, it never does fail.

I sure am proud to have him as a friend
you know he will be loyal until the very end.

So sweet :)

Here it goes....

Momma always has a huge smile on her face. Why? Because she is constantly thinking about me and my antics. I give her the puppy eye look when I look her straight in the eyes. It's true puppy love. I am truly unique, because right after I chew something up or destroy or eat something, I run into momma's room and pretend like I am asleep on her bed. It's works every time!! :)
Whenever I want to play fetch, and momma is on Dogster or something, I grab my tennis ball, and I put my paw on her lap and I rest my head on her. Then I whine and beg for her to take me outside. I am a lovable sweet buddy boy, but momma sometimes gets mad at me for biting her. It isn't puppy biting, but oh well, momma will always love me, and my unique cuteness!!

Memorial Day '09

This Memroial Day keep in your thoughts that America is not arrogant, or selfish.
The reason we have our country now, is because of troops and soldiers who died for our country. Now, I couldn't imagine signing up to die, but it's not that. It's about remembering how UNselfish they were, just brave as they could be, saving our beautiful country, and risking their lives for it.

As we stand here looking
At the flags upon these graves
Know these flags represent
A few of the true American brave

They fought for their Country
As man has through all of time
Except that these soldiers lying here
Fought for your country and mine

As we all are gathered here
To pay them our respect
Let's pass this word to others
It's what they would expect

I'm sure that they would do it
If it were me or you
To show we did not die in vein
But for the red, white and blue.

Let's pass on to our children
And to those who never knew
What these soldiers died for
It's the least we can do

Let's not forget their families
Great pain they had to bear
Losing a son, father or husband
They need to know we still care

No matter which war was fought
On the day that they died
I stand here looking at these flags
Filled with American pride.

So as the bugler plays out Taps
With its sweet and eerie sound
Pray for these soldiers lying here
In this sacred, hallowed ground.

Take home with you a sense of pride
You were here Memorial Day.
Celebrating the way Americans should
On this solemnest of days.

A little information about Earth day. It's a global holiday to celebrate the wonder of life on our planet. It's held each year to promote awareness of environmental issues. The first Earth Day was in 1970. Earth Day is a name used by two different observances held annually in the (northern) spring, both intended to inspire awareness of and appreciation for the Earth's environment.

Some ideas you can think of for your photo entry: recycling, global warming, pollution, cleaning up trash, etc, etc. Anything centered around bettering our earth will do!

Rules of the Earth day photo contest:

1. Real, photoshopped, or animated photos are all accepted.

2. Only ONE entry per pup - all pups in family can enter, though.

Mom's Back!!!

Mom went to camp for a whole week!! So I didn't get to see her for a week, and I was a very sad puppy. Mom rode horses, went on 3 hours hikes every day, climbed mountains, and did lots more!! On Monday and Tuesday she said it was so warm there!! And by Wednesday, it was freezing!! So she still hiked when it was freezing cold!! Anyways, she loved it so much, and she was surrounded by her best friends and she had a really cozy cabin with bunk beds. Today, when she came back, I jumped on her, and licked her to death!!

So she misses Camp, but she is at the same time happy to be home!!
