A New Year - My Brother is Still a Doorknob

Happy New Year Friends. Mom's New Year resolution is to let us post more on Dogster. We have missed our friends.

The Good News: Mom is retiring soon. By March 1st she will be home with us all day. We can hardly wait. We will have to make some adjustments. No more sleeping all day, we'll have to follow Mom around and keep an eye on her. We usually get up at 5:00 on work days and on weekends we don't let Mom sleep past 6:00. Mom says that is all going to change. It is going to be so much fun and no more waiting to go outside. There will be a downside. We will be on a budget - I sure hope that doesn't interfere with our treat money.

The Bad News: My brother Quigley is still a doorknob. He got stuck in his hoody today and was having such a panic attack that Mom had to cut him out of it. I went to see what the commotion was but realized it was just Quigley being Quigley. He's sleeping now thank goodness so I can get a nap in.

Four days with Mom - life does not get any better. Well it would be nice if all the snow would go away and it wasn't so darn cold. Mom says we will get some sun for the next two days. Looking forward to that.

Abolish Fire Works

Last night was not fun. I don't like fireworks. I was fine until about 7:00. Then the occasional boom but at 9:30 it was awful. Mom had my thunder shirt on and that helped some. I just had that freaked out look on my face Mom says and then the pacing started. By 9:30 when the mother lode hit I was hiding my head under the bed and by bedtime I was underneath. Mom took off my shirt before bed, because she said I could only have it on for 2 hours at a time. I hope today is going to be a whole lot quieter.

The noise doesn't bother Quigley at all. This just enforces my theory that he is not a real dog.

We are resting right now as Mom has had 3 days off and we are exhausted following her on her chores, getting toe trims, walking in the park afterwards, meeting new people. It tires a girl out.

Oops gotta run. Mom needs our help gardening before it gets too hot. Going to reach 90 today.

Have a glorious day.

Are You Kidding Me Mom?

You won't believe this. Mom got me a new food bowl - it's called a "Slo-Bowl" slow feeder. It's a maze that looks like a flower petal. Hello Mom what were you thinking - remember I have a very short nose. It's too deep. How the heck am I going to get my food out of it? It has been very challenging and Mom eventually has to get most of it out for me when I express my displeasure.

She bought Quigley one too in a different design but the little guy has a shorter nose than me. She sold that one to a dog with a longer snout. He loved it.

Maybe the warmer days are getting to Mom and her brains are a little jumbled. Hoping she comes to her senses soon. I might starve.

Mr. Sun Visited ME

Mom went to a quilting meeting this morning but then came home and is spending the rest of the weekend with us. We let Mom have some fun.

We've already had the fun of nestling in Grandma's clothes straight from the dryer. Very cozy. Grandma will never know, although her cats might wonder what that amazing smell is.

Mr. Sun was out for part of the day and I stretched out on the wicker loveseat to soak it up.

I have to keep my eye on Mom today. I developed an ear infection yesterday and Mom is "treating it". You know how much fun that is. So I run every time she looks at me that way.

Enjoy the weekend.

I eluded bath time

Last week when it was so nice out, Mom thought she'd give us much needed baths. She scooped Quigley up and had him in the bathtub before he knew what was going on. We both hate baths but once we're trapped in the cocoon of glass not much we can do about it.

But thankfully I had thrown up my food right before and Mom thought I might have gotten a little too much sun so she didn't want to stress me out any further with a bath. I'll have to remember that trick.

So Quigley is still trying to figure out why I escaped this time.

But I wasn't entirely unscathed, Mom got me the next day with some of that foo foo dog spray. Yeesch. You might think it smells like baby power but we think it stinks Mom.

Yay Mom is home for a 3day weekend. Life doesn't get any better than this.

Quigley is my slave today

Yay! Dogster made me a daily diary pick today. THank you Dogster. Quigley and I have a deal that whenever one of us gets an honor from Dogster, the other one has to be nice and wait on the recipient. This will be fun. I'll get the sunniest spot, more massages from Mom and, if he buys it some of his food - that one might not fly.

So happy day - hope all my friends have a fun sunny day.

What is Petting?

When someone asks your Mom if they can pet you and she says yes, what do you get? I've experienced pats and strokes. Thankfully my Mom goes beyond those. She goes for the "scruffle" or the "scritch" but for her own kids (that's me and Quigley) it's a massage. Mom has amazing hands, especially her thumbs. She let me get naked this morning and then gave me the best massage I've ever had on my neck and upper body. Then she made me a cozy spot on the bed with Mr. Sun on my whole body. I am so relaxed. And Mom promised me a butt massage later. Can life get any better than this.

Of course Mom can't just go up to pups she doesn't know and massage them, but any dog who spends some time with Mom somehow knows of her talents and they happily beg for her attention. Last year Mom went to an outdoor event with a barnyard of animals in an enclosure. They had a beautiful old golden retriever senior watchdog, that stays with the animals. She was very laid back. Mom sat down and massaged the dog and she would not let her leave. Every time she got up to leave the dog would sit up and put her paw on her "please don't stop" was in her eyes. After 30 minutes, Mom finally had to leave and the dog was so relaxed and thanked Mom with her eyes. Mom says it's her way of "paying forward".

Hope my friends know someone who has this talent.

I think we need to get Mom's hands insured. They are magic.

What Happened to my Spots?

Mom has seen a lot of Boston Terriers that have spots on their white fur. But I never had any until about a year ago. Mom thinks it was the medicine I was given (prednisone) for my irritable bowel syndrome. Luckily I'm off that now. Nasty stuff. Anyway, Mom was giving me a chest rub this morning (it was heaven) and she noticed that all the spots are gone. Is that weird. Has that happened to anyone else. Or as Quigley pointed out Mom doesn't give us a bath in the winter maybe it's just all covered up? Any ideas?

It was so cold today when Mom went out shopping, she said she had to stop at the flower shop just to see something that looked like Spring. It perked her right up until she had to leave the shop and get back in the 10 below temp.

I've been kind of trembling so Mom put my gray hoody on and it's staying on until I snuggle under the covers with Mom tonight. She doesn't know if I do that because I'm cold or anxious. She does worry about me.

Mom Says I Smell Like the Zoo!

Today is Mom's birthday! We gave her lots of kisses. She says she's older than dirt which translates to 63 years. She always takes her birthday off just to have a "me" day. She loves going to the zoo - her favorites are the primates. But today she said it was just too darn cold to go out and said her buddies at the zoo would probably be curled up in corners staying warm. Mom believes that all animals should be able to live in their native habitats but the world has not let that happen. So Mom goes to the zoo to show the animals that people still care about them. This zoo does things right and the animals are well treated.

So we got to hang out with Mom all day. She only gives us baths during the warm months so she can't wait till it warms up. Today she told me I smell like the zoo. Should I take that as a good thing?

Hope everyone is staying warm. We are still in the deep freeze with no end in sight. But Mr. Sun is out today and I've got my tush in just the right spot. He plays tricks on me during the day and hides in different spots. Mom says that keeps me exercised.

Life is good.

Just found out I'm a diary pick. Thanks Dogster. Yay! I will demand an extra bedtime snack tonight.

Mom did the laundry tonight. Quig and I are eagerly anticipating a fresh load of warmness from the dryer. The day just keeps getting better and better.
