So my little sister Britnee came in October and then it was on. I was completely potty trained by November and my obedience training went on to trick training. With Britnee following along and training beside me. As bratty as she is, I have to admit this tiny little puppy was awfully cute trying to master the tricks with me. And she is extremely bright. She too, was awed by the ancient one - Brandee, the 15 year old Shar Pei. Brandee, though, was deaf and blind by this time and just tolerated the little cussed puppy trying to play at her feet.

Christmas was a marvelous time for all of us. Brandee got these wonderful chew bones and Britnee and I filled our toy basket even more with wonderful toys. Some of which made noises similar to the animals they were shaped like. I learned to 'sit pretty', give 'paws up', and 'pray'. Britnee fell over, and at six months, still falls over whenever she tries to 'sit pretty'. I started differentiating the toys that I fetched and learned their names. There is a 'kitty' and a 'kangaroo' that are my favorites now. I also like the 'rope' and we use it for Britnee and I to play tug of war. Britnee and I chase and play fight almost constantly when we aren't playing with mama, doing tricks, or sleeping. Britnee ruined a couple pairs of mama's good heels and became a bad influence on me. I went through a shy period and got my annoying bark in December as well. Britnee doesn't bark at all, but I keep watch. Any foot or even stream of light from a car, puts me at attention and requires me to tell everyone in the house to be on alert. This is accomplished through a stream of very loud, annoying barks. Mom taught me to 'quiet' then. She kindly uses 'thank you' when I use my bark to warn her when someone actually knocks on the door or walks onto our property but other than that - she just uses quiet when I am yelling at the cat or barking for no good reason at all. I know there is a good reason...but she obviously doesn't appreciate it.

February came and went quickly. In March, Britnee and I had to say good bye to the ancient one. Daddy and Mama felt that her quality of life was not what it should be and she appeared to be in pain most of the time. So now, it is just Britnee and I ruling the roost.

I turned one year old on March 20th, and that weekend, it was as if my ears adjusted and suddenly I could understand Mama's human talk. Now she talks to me and I appear to understand her. And she understands me as well. I can tell her I want to play and she says go get your 'kitty' or go get your 'kangaroo', and I do. I have a different look and mannerisms when I have to go outside. IF she can't hear me ring the bell at the door, I can go to her and tell her I have to go and she asks "Do you need to go outside" and I say "yes" and she opens the door for me. I am a yearling now and the human world is opening up to me and I suddenly am understanding my mama and my place in her life and how very lucky I am. She understands how smart I am and how grown up I am. I am her only little boy and she thinks I am growing into a very handsome Teddy Bear. At first glance, I can easily be mistaken for a female, because I am so cute and fluffy, but Mama looks in my face and see's the handsome male Alpha that I inspire to be in my compact, cute, 15 lbs.

My trick training progresses and I can now jump - over my mama's legs and through a hoop. I also 'crawl' military style under obstacles. Mama thinks I am really talented for just a year old and can't wait to see how much more I grow in talent and agility. So there is my first year and my "Ah ha" moment. I understand now. I am lucky to have my Mama and my mama thinks she is very lucky to have me.

This is Teddy,
Finally...signing off for a while.
