Arrival Story:
We found an ad in the local paper for English Bulldogs. The bulldogs for sale had Brian's birthdate. We thought it would be cool to have a fur baby with the same birthday as one of us. When we went to pick out the baby we immediately noticed Sammie. She wasn't as hyper as the rest of the litter. She was sitting by herself...not lonely looking but content. We decided she would be the perfect addition to our family. So on August 21, 2001 Sammie became ours. Of course she didn't get her name for a couple weeks. We actually called her pumpkin or whistled. We wanted to make sure we gave a name that was fitting of her personality. Even though Sammie was a dog we treated her like a baby. She had her own blankets, clothes, bed, toys, food, etc. She was talked to like a baby and loved every minute of it.

Bio:
Sammie was diagnosed with Lymphosarcoma on May 12, 2008. Apparently the knee surgery she had in February "brought" the cancer to the surface. We were told that we would have at least a year with her. On May 19th we took her back to the vet. Her breathing had become labored and the swelling was more significant. The doctor took some x rays and noticed a mass between Sammie's lungs and heart. The labored breathing was due to the mass. The doctor told us her prognosis wasn't good. The cancer was very aggressive-something that they haven't seen in a long time. May 29th Sammie's swelling around her neck was so bad that it was not only hindering her breathing but it was also causing her to choke. We called the vet. The vet told us that this is part of the cancer. Eventually Sammie's heart or lungs will give. We could come home to her dying of a heart attack or choking to death. With much anguish we decided that we wanted Sammie to go peacefully. On May 31st I drove Sammie 45 minutes to our vet. She sat in the front seat with me so I can look at her every chance I could. It was the longest/hardest 45 minutes of my life. At 9:02 am Sammie crossed over Rainbow Bridge. I know she is happy and healthy-something she hasn't been in a long, long time. We think about her constantly and miss her dearly. Honestly we would do ANYTHING to get her back. She was the bright spot of our day-everyday. We hate coming home. She's not there greeting us at the door with her tail end going a hundred miles an hour. We hate going to bed at night. She's not there snoring a lullaby.
