ANOTHER dog in our family!!!

OMD, now we have ANOTHER new dog living in our house with us!!! It is Annie, she is MY old friend Skye's toy poodle. In fact, I found a photo of me and Beanie with her and put it on MY page.
Skye got Annie when she and her grandmother visited a pet store about 8 or 9 years ago. Well, a few years ago, Skye's grammy died and left Annie to her!
Annie was living with Skye's dad and they just had to move. Unfortunately, Annie can't stay with him AND Skye's Mom lives in a place where they don't allow dogs. Sooo, poor Skye thought she was going to have to find a new home for her best friend.
Enter Mom... she said it was okay if Annie lived here with us cuz she already knows MOST of us, and Skye can visit her here when she comes to visit Mom. I think that is a GREAT idea... Skye is older now and I hardly ever see her anymore. Now that Annie is here she will come MORE often and I will get to see her more, hehehe!
Anyway, Mom said she will get some more photos of us all pretty soon but right now Annie is still adjusting to us. Annie DOES have her own Dogster page, but Mom said she will probably transfer it to our family anyway.
I forgot, I also have a brand new haircut. Julia told Momsie I was TOO HOT with all that hair all over my body. I actually think it was cuz she was going to give me my bath this morning and she didn't want to dry all that hair, BOL!! At any rate, I am cooler now!
Gotta go, SUPPER TIME, and Julia is STILL here visiting us so Mom is making HER cook supper tonight. Mmmmm good!

Preggers or not preggers???

Mom just told me that tomorrow is the day she gets to check and see if Fanny is pregnant. Fanny, if you remember, (or if you even knew), is the lab that Mom just bred to Lola's new Mom's boy lab. Mom is VERY excited because IF she is pregnant and IF she has a black male we are getting one and I am going to name him Quincy and raise him right so he will grow up nice like me!!!
There could be a few issues, however. Sadly, labs are MUCH bigger than I am, and if he chases the chickies, and is lucky enough to learn well from me and catch one, he will most likely gobble it down in one bite and not even share it with me! On second thought, maybe I WON'T teach him how to chase chickies!!!
I do remember playing with Alfie... remember HER??? She was the chocolate lab that Mom took and raised here, then sent off to her nephew and his wife for a wedding present. I did have loads of fun playing with Alfie... it was kind of nice having another bigger dog to chase and jump on! She didn't run screaming to Mom all the time like Beanie and Riley and Ali and Zena do... she took it like a true lab!
I am not sure why Alfie went to a new home... Mom says it was cuz she couldn't show her or breed her, but I think it was cuz she was a girl dog and Mom loves BOY dogs the best! She says Quincy will be a bed dog like ME! Hope he doesn't get bladder infections and have to pee on the bed like me, BOL!
Speaking of, Mom says I must have ANOTHER one since I peed on her bed TWO nights in a row. She has to call the vets to get me some pills cuz she doesn't want to have me spend the whole day up there getting a sterile collection. I think it's cuz she doesn't want to spend the big bucks they charge her for getting that sterile collection, hehehe!
She says if I only pee on the bed when I have a UTI, and EACH TIME, for the last 7 or 8 UTI's, they have done the sterile collection and EACH TIME, for the last 7 or 8 sterile collections I HAVE had a UTI, she thinks they should trust ME and just give me the antibiotics!!
Of course, I do agree with her on that...do you know HOW they do that sterile collection???? Suffice it to say it does involve a HUGE, LONG needle and MY bladder?????

Obedience class AND a Guinea!!

Tonight we had obedience class again. It was pretty hot down there but there was a nice breeze.
My friend Julia was there and she did some agility stuff with me after our picnic supper. Then, it was time for the class so of course, I had to be Mom's demo dog. What a BORING job that is!!!! I humored myself by lying on my back and seeing what the other dogs looked like upside down. Pretty neat!
After class we all went home and Mom carefully checked the guineas prior to letting us out in our pen. All was fine, all the Guineas were roosting up on the top of the fence so we got the all clear and raced out the door.
Well, one silly Guinea flew OFF the fence and landed right in OUR pen, right in front of ME!!! Do they EVER learn???? Of course, I chased him, he flew over to the corner where Crystal took up the chase. Back and forth we went until Momsie came along and bopped me over the head with her plastic bucket, then covered the Guinea with the same plastic bucket!!! She scooped him up and quickly hustled over and popped him back in his pen. I was hopping along beside her, trying my darndest to get in a bite.
In spite of bopping, popping and hopping, I had NO luck! I had to humor myself playing with a few feathers he lost instead of having a nice after dinner snack of Guinea under glass. Maybe next time???

More on some MORE chickies???

Whew, just when those Chickies got me all figured out and now turn around and show their tough side to me, Mom announced she is not happy with the Leghorn pullets and is planning to trade them in. Seems they DO suffer a bit from hyperactivity, not helped AT ALL by those crazy Guineas flitting and flighting all over the place.
Mom grew up with the old fashioned heavy breeds for hens...the Rhode Island Reds, the NH Reds, the Comets, Barred Rocks, and the like. They are calm, quiet and LOVE people and make good pet chickens. The Leghorns are always moving, jumping and flying and running around like the proverbial chicken with its head cut off. They are not relaxing and calming AT ALL.
Soo, Mom emailed their breeder and asked about trading them in for something else. Problem is, she needs something around the same age so they can all get along fine together with the older hens and the Guineas. She got an email back, the breeder was laughing and told Mom she completely understood...she calls the Leghorns her chickens on speed!!
Anyway, they have some buffs that are around 7 or 8 weeks old...the Leghorns were just 5 weeks old when Mom put them out with the hens so these guys should be fine. Her other choice is to get some more older hens already laying eggs, if they have any of those.
Mom is not a major egg eater so having young chickies who will lay eggs every single day is not a dealbreaker. So far, the two OLD hens have kept her eating eggs four or five times a week AND having some to give the girls at work. One of them has apparently stopped laying now but one egg a day is plenty if you live alone!
The chicken lady is busy for a couple of weeks with family company so Mom isn't doing anything just yet. She did, however, start reading the local classifieds to see if anyone has any needing homes nearby.
I wonder if she will let me have the Leghorns for breakfast????

Diary Pick for me, too!!

Ole' Harvey thought he was sooo special yesterday cuz he was a diary pick. Well, hehehe, I was a diary pick today, so there!
Once again, Momsie didn't get an email announcing my great feet,(Oops, but I DO have great FEET, too!!) Fortunately for me, she DID look at who was who this morning and discovered a dog that looked JUST like me in the photos for the diary picks. She clicked on it, and low and behold, it WAS me, BOL!
Unlike Harvey, I DID have a special day... I got invited to be the demo dog at Mom's new obedience class tonight. It was the most PERFECT night out...cool and crisp, but yet still warm enough for Summer. And, Mom brought a whole string cheese JUST for me, Ummmmmmm!
I had a very, very good time!
Now we are resting before bedtime. Mom says we have to rest, otherwise when we get to bed we are all wound up. Hey, I blame it on the cats... as soon as we go to bed they all wake up and race around the room like crazy.
All except Smokey Cat cuz he snuck outside and came to obedience class, too. I saw him hiding in the bushes. Fortunately, none of the other dogs saw him or he might have been chased a bit. I only chase CHICKIES!!!!!

A TRUE funny story...

I received this email from my exwife Jenny and my grandson, Piper, today. Mom and I thought it was SOOO funny that we are putting it here so you all can read it. Hopefully, you will also think it is funny!!

"It was a sultry hot day, too hot to take the dogs shopping while I picked up some items for my 87 year old mother who was just home from the rehab nursing facility and in her new retirement community the day before. The shopping list was long with stops at the grocery, CVS, and the hardware store.
I left her and the dogs in her nice, quiet apartment.
Then the call came in..."Pam, I'M IN TROUBLE!!! The dogs escaped!! They are running wild in the hallway and I am afraid they'll get on the elevator!!"
Turns out her new, tall, male nurse walked in spooking (deaf) Piper who darted out the door with Jenny following. Two crazy black poodles, one with a VERY loud bark, running and barking up and down the hallways, evading all who ran after them, including the 100 year old neighbor named Fuzzy with a fish named Sushi, running after the quick, dodging pups.
During the call I hear barking and screams in the background with my panicking mother with her walker, trying to follow my instructions. "Mother, calm down and yell COOKIE, Jenny, COOKIE! and put your hand out" all to no avail.
I rushed back with my bags upon bags of stuff to find everything calm and the dogs sleeping, as if nothing had happened at all.
I asked my mother how she got them back in and she said, "WHEAT THINS!!!" She went out the door shaking a box of Wheat Thins!
Fuzzy, the 100 year old neighbor with the fish named Sushi, later told my mother it was FUN and it broke up the monotony of the day!"

Like I said, both Mom and I LOVED it... I wish I had been there to race up and down the hallway with them, BOL!!

Guinea in MY pen?? Almost breakfast!!

Yesterday morning I got up as usual, Mom put us all outside and, as usual, I raced over to check out my chickies. Low and behold, one silly Guinea had jumped right over the fence and was in MY pen, in fact, he was in MY path!!!
Of course, I grabbed him, of course he screamed bloody murder (hey, I was TRYING to murder him, BOL), and, of course Mom heard him and raced out in her nightgown!
I was soo shocked to see her out in her nightgown, barefooted and all, that I foolishly dropped the Guinea and he ran right into Crystal and Ali's open arms. Of course, Mom YELLED really loudly, and I thought it in my best interest to run up onto the porch and get in my dog bed. Silly Ali and Crystal kept trying, but Mom grabbed the Guinea and put him back in his pen.
All's well that ends well, I guess... next time I looked over they were ALL eating their breakfast.
I will say... in the last few weeks those guys have gotten REALLY big and they have REALLY, REALLY hooked, nasty looking beaks. I may have to rethink trying to eat one of them...they might end up eating ME!!!
In other news, Julia came along and spent the night with us. We went along down into the lab pen and were racing around down there. It was quite cool and nice, even, so we all ran and ran and ran.
There was a problem, however. Mom, of course, had her cameras (note the plural?) and Julia ALSO had a camera. Sadly, there was no escaping the papparatzi and when Mom later viewed the shots, she discovered a somewhat fuzzy shot of ME, trying to recover from a header. Not flattering at all! Julia will pay, she MUST pay. I just need to figure out an appropriate payback!!!

I am NOT the biggest anymore...

My ego has suffered a crushing blow this week. Up until now I have been the biggest dog in the whole house, and I have benefited from all the perks that honor carries with it.
Suddenly, Momsie dear brought home her newest "project". His name is Ajax and he is way, way bigger than Smokey Foster, even! I haven't decided yet whether I shall let him know that I am the boss here, even though I am no longer the biggest, BOL!
I did a little math today and, after finally figuring how to use the calculator on the 'puter, I now realize that Ajax weighs more than ALL of us other dogs combined. We all got together and decided we wouldn't take him on yet...heck, if he just sneezes we will be blown across the room!!! Heaven forbid he steps on one of us, even accidently. We will need emergency surgery to get plumped back up again.
Seriously, though. Ajax seems to understand that he is a guest here and as such, he can't be bossing any of us around and he is behaving very, very well. Mom says we need to be careful because he came with a reputation as being dog aggressive but I know he knows that he doesn't have very many choices left. A couple of times I did need to show him my teeth, but he got the message instantly and backed away from MY Mom!! Now I guess he isn't gonna take her over so we can exist as long as he stays away from MY CHICKENS!!!!
OMD... I hope he doesn't think he will fit in OUR tent with us!!!!!

Chasing FROGGIES...bet ya thought I was gonna say chickies,- BOL!

[ Leave A Comment | 4 people already have ]

For any of you who remember my first love and the mother of my children, Jenny, you will remember she was CRAZY for chasing frogs!!! I used to just sit back and watch her try and try and try to catch them.
Well, let me tell you, today whilst we were having lunch on the island up at our kayaking pond, I discovered the thrill of frogging!!! One big bullfrog made a mistake and got up on the shore, right in front of me. I jumped him, and only stepped on him a little bit, but he got all confused and kept jumping around in front of me.
Of course, I kept chasing him and he managed to stay about 1/2 frog leg in front of me. Finally, I was getting all hot and sweaty and he was getting even hotter and sweatier so Mom made me let him jump back in the pond. I escorted him to the waters edge, BOL!
That was so much fun that when we got home and Mom and Julia were working down at our fishy pond, I hunted around and found some frogs there, too. They were MUCH smarter and just as I would get to them, KERSPLASH, they jumped right into the pond!!!
For a while there I even forgot about the chickens!! Only for a while, though, cuz soon enough, I heard a Guinea squawking for me. I am sooo smart that I realized the lower gate to the lab pen was open and I raced in there and ran up to the chicken pen and made my presence known. Mom and Julia were watching!
They were really laughing at me cuz as soon as I realized the chickens couldn't get out of their pen I wanted to go back down with Mom and Julia but, in my haste, I forgot I had to go back down in the lab pen and out the lower gate. I was crying and crying for Julia to come get me, and FINALLY, she went over to the lower gate to remind me that is where I needed to go.
Whew... I thought I was going to have to stay in that dog yard all by myself and watch Julia and Mom and Beanie and Ali down in the big yard, enjoying the cool shade. When I got back there we all had some watermelon. I LOVE Summer!!!

Another visit to the Littletown...

A few years ago I got to ride along with Mom when she took a labrador up to a Littletown called Littleton, here in NH. I had a good time, EXCEPT, I made a mistake and hopped out of the car the minute she opened the door. Then, I was panicked and ran RIGHT in front of a car. Fortunately, the person driving the car was the labrador lady, so she saw me hop out of Mom's car and didn't hit me!
I got a BIG lecture from both Julie and Mom (Julie rode along with Mom), and I was pretty sure I would NEVER go to that little town again.
Today, Mom got out of work early and she took ME and we went for a ride. First we stopped at the big town we sometimes go shopping in, and Mom ran in the store and bought a whole bunch of stuff for the kennel. She also bought US a HUGE jar of animal crackers. We LOVE those things!!!
Anyway, when we started driving again, Mom went NORTH instead of back home. We drove and drove and drove and finally stopped at the very, very same restaurant where I hopped out of the car in the Littletown. For being such a little town, there was a TON of traffic going every which way. Since we were early, Mom went over to the Walmart. It was the biggest Walmart I have EVER, EVER seen!!!! And, a million people were visiting it, but Mom was lucky and got a parking place right up close and personal. Good thing cuz she only had 20 minutes to grab a few things. She grabbed, got a Buddy poppy for her and one for me on the way out and we headed back to the restaurant. Just as we pulled in, the lab lady pulled in beside us. Mom got out, BUT I STAYED SITTING IN MY SEAT LIKE THE PERFECT DOG I AM, BOL!!!
I didn't know it, but the lab lady is Lola's new Mom, imagine that!!! Anyway, of course they went inside and took their sweet time eating. Fortunately, Mom brought some tasty leftovers (in a doggy bag), and actually gave them to me. My, how things have changed in just a few short years, BOL!
Anyway, this time we were picking up a labrador. She hopped in the back seat and we drove along home. It had been very hot and humid, but apparently a HUGE thunderstorm came down here while we were gone so when we got back the fog was so thick you couldn't see ANYTHING! Good thing it was only the last few miles cuz it was hurting my eyes trying to see where Mom was going.
Mom said it was hurting HER eyes trying to see all the moose and deer that were deciding they needed to cross the highway in front of us. Fortunately, she saw them all, so we didn't hit any!
Now the labrador has gone back to HER home, and hopefully, in NINE WEEKS, she will have a nice, black lab puppy for ME to raise. I am naming him Quincy!!!!
