Mommy did a lot of cooking today. She made French toast for breakfast and froze the leftovers, lasagna, chicken 3 different ways, and 2 kinds of Jello. Did I get any? NOOOOOO! She froze it all and said that it was for the next couple of weeks because she won't be able to do much of anything. She's going in the hospital on Friday to get spayed. Mommy and I will have something in common! She's kind of looking forward to it because it will solve the problems she's been having, but she's a little nervous about afterwards when her tummy hurts. I always thought that getting spayed was routine, but Mommy says that's just for dogs. Hoomans don't do it unless there is a problem. She's going to be gone for up to 4 days! What am I going to do for 4 days without my mommy? Daddy said that he'll leave one of her nightshirts out for me to cuddle with. I'm sure that will help, but it's not the same! Why 4 days? We dogs go home the next day! Do hoomans have a harder time than we do? Hmph, wimps. They should be more like us dogs. We're tough! We can take it! I promised her I would take care of her when she got home. I just hope that she's not gone too long. *Sniff* I want my mommy!

Mommy and Daddy are back from New Hampshire where my human sister had a beautiful baby girl! She was born on Fri., April 3 at 2:09 pm EST. She was 21 inches long and weighed 8 lbs 8 oz. I get to go with Mommy and Daddy in August when they go back for my nephew's 2nd birthday. This time I stayed with my Foster Mom from Stray Rescue (I was there for 10 days) and made friends with a Boxer mix. She was my cuddle buddy. We would run and play in the back yard every day. I tore up another pillow in my crate when we had storms on Monday. Mommy and Daddy just laughed about it. Now Mommy has to make me a new bed for my crate. I was sooooo excited when Mommy and Daddy came to pick me up that I jumped up and bounced around while they talked to FM, got my things in the car and wrote out the check for her. I panted the whole time we were in the car. And guess what! Instead of going straight home, we went to visit Grandma and Grandpa!!!!!! As soon as my harness was off, I went tearing down the hall to greet them. I was so excited! I love my Grandma and Grandpa. We finally got home about 7:30 pm. Boy was I tired! I had a great time at FM's house, but it sure is good to be home.

When Daddy got me up Sunday morning, he let me outside to go potty. I did my business, and then found a great spot in the middle of the yard to roll around in. I spent about 10 minutes getting all perfumed. It was lovely. I wanted to smell especially nice when we went to the dog park. When we got there we met Georgie and Jackson, Duffy, Gilbert and Buster and a bunch of other dogs there, too. We spend about 3 hours there on Sunday when the weather is nice and this Sunday it was beeooooteful!!!!Not a cloud in the sky, a nice breeze and the temperature was in the low 8o's. Everybody was camped out under my tree in the middle of the small dog area! It was ok, I'm getting used to everypup. We are becoming a pack. I even met a Beagle named Bentley. He's bigger than me, but he didn't scare me. He's a Beagle! After the dog park, we went to lunch and I laid down under the bench that Mommy and Daddy were sitting on. I was tired! Then we went to Petsmart to get me some more food, but they were out of the 5 lb bag of Blue Buffalo Small Bites. Good thing I had enough for Monday morning! We went home after that and we all took a nap. That's when the day went wrong.
Mommy had moved some stuff on the kitchen counter. I thought she was cleaning the kitchen, but nooooooooo. Next thing I knew, Daddy picked me up and I suddenly found myself in the SINK! Mommy had water running and a sprayer! She was making me all wet!!!!!!!! And soaping me up!!!!!!!!! Oh Dog, I was getting a BATH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !! And after I had so carefully perfumed myself, too. The nerve! All those nice smells getting washed down the sink. Humans just don't appreciate nice doggy smells. Mommy said it was so I wouldn't itch so much. Yeah, right. I still itch........a little. Ok, maybe it did help, but she still washed off all my nice perfume! Now I have to start all over. Sheesh.
Monday, we went to visit a doggy hotel called Happy Tails. There is a large playroom with beds around the perimeter and a door that leads to an outside play area. The door to the outside is closed and locked at 10 pm and then open it again at 6 am. It's doggy playtime all the time! Dogs are only crated for mealtimes and time out. You can request that your dog is crated at night. One person watches over 15 to 20 dogs, so if there are more than 2o dogs in the area at a time there are more people to watch over them. They're open 24/7/365 and have 80 people on staff with vets. They're the only ones in the country that do this and it works very well. We were there for something called orientation. It was to see how I did with a bunch of dogs. It's a good thing I've been going to the dog park and to training classes. I would have cowered in a corner if I had seen all those dogs before. I was still a little overwhelmed, but I think I could eventually get used to it. I think we were just visiting, but I heard something about Mommy and Daddy going on a vacation, whatever that is. I guess I'll find out.
Bark at you later!

What is the fascination that humans have for fireworks? Ok, I admit that they're pretty, but there's this big explosion just before they get pretty. Mommy and Daddy took me to the fireworks on Fourth of July and I must say that I did not enjoy the loud noises that accompanied the pretty display. I laid on the ground behind Mommy's chair and shook the whole time! Just because Lucky didn't care about loud noises doesn't mean that I don't! NOT FUN, MOMMY AND DADDY! I was glad when we went home, but did it end there? Oh, no. People in the neighborhood were setting off their own fireworks! It's not even legal around here!!!!!! What's up with that?!!!!! It wasn't a total loss, though. I did get a couple of oatcakes out of it, tee hee.
Sunday we went to the dog park and out to lunch again. Our pack is growing! This time, along with Georgie, Jackson and Duffy, we went with Gilbert, Buster, Sawyer and Penelope! It was quite a crowd at the outdoor cafe. We were all so good. Of course, we were all tired from playing at the dog park and it was a warm day. If a tired dog is a happy dog then we were on cloud 9, BOL! It took me 2 days to recover.
I went to class again yesterday. I'm really doing good in my training. I think I'm starting to understand the clicker thing better. If I do good, I hear a click and if I don't get it right then I don't. I've been having a hard time understanding "Down", but Mommy and I just practiced it and I got it right 3 whole times! Mommy is so proud of me. I got really good treats for that. Now I'm laying down on Mommy's back support pillow. It's on the floor and seemed like a good place to ..........

Yesterday I had my first obedience class at Petsmart. When we got there a puppy class was just finishing up. There were a bunch of little puppies in it and they were so cute. Then there was the Great Dane puppy. He was cute, too, but he wasn't little. That had to be the biggest dog I had ever seen, and he was still growing!!!! He was ginormous!!!!!!!!!!
After that class let out, my class started. I was the only one in it! There was supposed to be another lady and her dog there, but she didn't show up. Mommy and Daddy thought that was strange, but that meant that I got a private lesson. It's something called clicker training. When I do what I'm supposed to I hear a click and get a treat. Mommy made me little pieces of chicken. I'll do anything for food and that was especially yummy. I did really good on my first day. I learned sit, follow (that one's a natural, :-) ), leave it, and walking through the store. The instructor said that I'm really smart and want to please. If there are treats involved, you bet! I go back again on Tuesday to a puppy class because there will be more dogs around. She said that she's going to try to get the lady who was supposed to be there yesterday to come, because I'm really past the puppy class. I am, after all, already crate and potty trained.
I was really tired after my first class so I took a nap when we got home. School is hard work! Then Mommy and Daddy went to a friend's place for dinner and I got to go, too! I met her little dog, Gracie. She's a little Rat Terrier. Lucky had met her, too. I was very good and didn't bother anybody while they had their dinner. After I had mine, I jumped up on a couch, settled onto the pillows and went to sleep. Everybody thought I was so cute. Gracie was on the other couch on her pillows in her princess pose. She did look pretty cute sitting up there.
Today was the most awsomest day ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got to go to the dog park with Georgie and Jackson, Duffy, and Gilbert and Buster again. When we got there I also met Ivy and Chopper and Sawyer and Penelope from DPUSA. Then a bunch of other dogs started coming in to the park. One of them was a wild 11 month old Brussels Griffon named Casey. I scared me at first. He wanted to run, but he would charge up to a pup and try to start something. That scares me. I don't like being run up to like that, at least not until I quietly meet a pup. I finally figure him out, though. The next time he charged up to me, I took off running as fast as I could and zigzagged all over the place. He couldn't keep up with me! I could here everybody yelling, "Go, Pepsi!" and cheering me on! I have to admit, it was fun. I didn't exactly wear him out, but he did give up trying to catch me, tee hee. I laid down and when he came up to me again, I didn't do anything and he just walked away. He didn't bother me anymore after that. Ha, guess I showed him!
We were at the park for about 3 hours, and then, just when I thought it couldn't get any better, we went out for lunch with Georgie, Jackson and Duffy! OK, our pawrents got lunch and we got treats, but we got to sit with them at an outside cafe. Then we went down Main Street a little and stopped off for ice cream! Along the way all these people wanted to stop and pet us and tell us how cute we all were. Then we took a stroll down to the river and just enjoyed all the smells along the way. It started to sprinkle again (it had done that a couple of times) and we ducked into a pavilion and got petted by more people. Then it was time to walk back to the cars and head home. Boy, I'll tell you, there were four pretty tired pups who rode home today. I don't know about Georgie, Jackson and Duffy, but I took a REALLY long nap when I got home. We all had so much fun today that we're going to meet again next week. I thing we might make this a weekly thing. I sure hope so. It was a blast. We gotta get Gilbert and Buster to come with us for lunch next time. They'd love it! Now, I think I'll go take another nap. In fact, I think I'm pretty much done for the night.

I am having so much fun with my new family! We go for walks every morning and every evening. I get lots and lots of lovin'. I get to visit Grandma and Grandpa. In fact, when we get out of the moving room that goes to the floor of the condo they live on I get let off the leash and I run real fast to Grandma at the end of the hall. I'm just so happy to see her and Grandpa that I do the Happy Wiggle Butt Dance.
Last week we went to Petsmart and I got a new car seat and a harness. Mommy and Daddy want to keep me safe in the car and I want to look out the window. Now we can do both. I got to try it out for the first time yesterday when we FINALLY went to the dog park. I had sooooo much fun! I got to see Duffy, Georgie and Jackson again and I met Gilbert and Buster in the fur! We had fun just running around and sniffing. I explored the whole fenced in area! A standard poodle, dalmatian and another big dog (I don't know what kind he was, but he was very good looking) came into the park where we were. I did sniff them, but I'm a little shy around big dogs. After a while, I got tired and decided to lay down to rest......by myself. I like my space when I'm resting. I even move away from my pawrents if they cuddle with me when I'm snoozing. That's just the way I am.
I've learned a trick! There is a playground along one of the walks that we go on at night. I've learned to go down one of the little slides! Last night I went down the slide by myself 'cause it was fun!!!!! I even know how to get to the playground. I lead Mommy and Daddy right to it when we go that way. I know just the gate to go to.
I'm feeling more comfortable in my new home every day. You can tell because I'm starting to get into things. The other day I picked up Daddy's sandal and took it to my bed. I've brought a couple of plastic bottles from the recycle box to my bed and I keep picking up a gardening glove and bringing it in. Mommy and Daddy just think it's funny, but they still take them away. They say that I'm getting more beagley every day. Well, duh, I am a beagle.
Tonight, Mommy had to go to a meeting. I was home with Daddy, but I was really worried that Mommy wasn't going to come home. I stayed in the living room watching the door. Daddy had to open the front door so that I could look outside to see if Mommy was coming up the steps. *Sigh*, she wasn't. I jumped up on the bed and got her nail file, but Daddy took it away. Then I got it again and took it to my bed, but Daddy took it away again. Finally, after THREE WHOLE HOURS, Mommy came home. I thought that I was never going to see her again! I was so worried. I love my Daddy, he's my play buddy, but, well, she's my Mommy! What else can I say. I'm just glad she's home. Now I can get some rest.

Today my mommy and daddy officially adopted me!!! My foster mommy, Kathi, came over and Mommy and Daddy signed the papers and everything! I was so excited to see my foster mommy. I hadn't seen her in 2 weeks, but I remembered her. I did my happy wiggle-butt dance and wagged my tail so hard that it almost fell off. Tee hee, not really, but I did wag it hard. She only stayed a little 'cause she had to go to work, but it sure was good seeing her again.
After she left, Mommy and Daddy took me for a ride. When we stopped I found out that they had taken me to Petsmart!!!! I got a new crate, a pink bling collar, two new bowls for food and water, a Halti Collar and a pink heart name tag. Mommy says that we're not done yet. I even got checked out at the vet at Banfield while we were there. It wasn't too bad, no shots 'cause I got mine from Stray Rescue, but I didn't like it when I got poked in the back end for my temperature. Don't they know that's not an entrance, only an exit? The nerve. Mommy said that she's glad they checked me out because I've been scratching at my ear and shaking my head for the last few days. It turns out that my ear is dirty and starting to get some yeast building up in it. The dogter said that I need my ears cleaned twice a day for a week and then twice a week for two weeks. Then she wants to see me again.
I was really tired when we got home, but after a short nap I was ready for a walk. We tried out my new Halti Collar. I didn't like it at first, it feels weird. I did walk really good with it on, though, so I guess it's ok. I'll get used to it. It was nice not having a chain around my neck, I do have to admit. It's hard to chase a squirrel with a Halti on, though.
That's all for now. Tonight I get to sleep in my new crate. Daddy already set it up.

Stray Rescue, the group that I came from, has a really good program where the pets up for adoption can stay in their prospective furever homes for 2 weeks to make sure that they are a good fit with their furever families. I've been here for 2 weeks and it's been furtastic! Mommy and Daddy knew almost right away that I was theirs 'cause cute little me made sure to be very good. I learned that the furniture in the living room is off limits, but the bed and the couch are ok. I can even lay down on the couch and the bed and not bother Mommy or Daddy when they are eating. In fact, a few nights ago they had this stuff called popcorn. Mommy put it into a bowl that was big enough for me to get into. They sat on the bed watching TV and ate it and guess what! I sat on the bed and just watched them! I didn't bother them at all! Every once in a while I got a piece of popcorn, too. I was very patient and waited until Mommy or Daddy gave it to me. I even took it very gently right out of their hand. Pretty good for a beagle, huh?
When I had only been with my new pawrents for a few days we went to the Dog Days of Summer in St. Charles, Mo. It's an annual fundraiser for the local rescue groups. There were bands playing music, presentations, and demonstrations going on and lots of people and dogs. Some of the restaurants had outdoor seating where people could have lunch and sit outside with their dogs. I got to meet Lucky's pals, Georgie and Jackson and Duffy McDuff in the fur! Mommy and Daddy hadn't told them about me. I was a surprise. The big surprise was how good I was the whole time.
I do have some separation anxiety. I don't like being locked up in my crate when nobody's home. Mommy gave me an old pillow that she had to sleep on in my crate. It was nice and comfy and I slept on it for 2 nights. Then Mommy and Daddy went out one morning and when they got home, there I was, standing in the middle of a fluffy cloud of pillow filling. I had shredded the pillow case and the covering and pulled all the stuffing out. They thought it was hilarious! A couple of days later, I did the same thing to some old towels. Now they call me The Shredder. We may have to deal with this issue down the road sometime, or else there won't be any towels or pillows left, BOL!!!!
Tomorrow is the big day! I will officially be in my furever home. Mommy told my foster mom that she wasn't getting me back. I love my foster mom, but I get Mommy and Daddy all to myself. I'm so excited!
Ooh, I almost forgot!!!!! I was outside today with Mommy and she was brushing me when I saw a squirrel. Mommy was holding me by the collar and wouldn't let me go til she was done brushing. When she let me go, I took off running! The squirrel took off......I ran faster.........and I PINNED HIM!!!!! We wrestled for a few seconds and he got away, but I HAD HIM! He barely escaped with his life! Mommy was so proud! I wonder if he'll be back or if I scared him away. If he comes back, I'm ready for him. I'm the Squirrel Hunter.
