Arrival Story:
We adopted Annie on May 15, 2003 from the Richmond, VA SPCA. Hubby and I walked through the kennels and it just brought me to tears.. All of the dogs were barking except for one. I walked over to the cage that Annie was in, kneeled next to her and she immediately started licking anything and everything she could get to. Her owner had died and she had been there for only 20 days.. but she looked so sad and really out of place. We visited with her in one of the sitting rooms and talked it over and over and decided to sleep on it and go back the next day with our decision. Well, they won't hold dogs for potential adopters so that whole night we were going crazy. We couldn't sleep out of worry that she wouldn't be there when we went back the next day. We just knew she was the one! We went back the next day and the girl pulled out her folder and noticed that someone else had started filling out adoption papers on her but had decided to wait and come back the next day.. exactly as we had done. We almost missed getting our baby!

Annie has left us.

Annie passed away early this morning during her morning outing. We just found out last week that she was suffering from a mast cell tumor and this morning she left us. She went to a quiet place in the yard where we couldn't see her from the deck and laid down. My husband found her just as she was taking her last breaths. It happened so fast. We're devastated and heartbroken and are not sure how or if we can move forward without our little girl.
