I had been longing for a dog since my husband joined the navy and we moved 13 hours away from my family. I searched petfinder and found a black miniture schnauzer at a local shelter. I was really excited because my grandparents and uncle always had schnazuers so I knew what great dogs they can be.
I rushed to the shelter to take a look at this shaggy schnauzer. Entering the kennel area, there were so many great dogs in there. A teacup poodle named Tater tot was the first to greet me. I walked on to find that mini, and there he was very quiet with his stump of a tail wagging as fast as it could. I stood and talk to him for a few minutes, then walked on to look at the other dogs. When I walked away, the mini began to bark, so I came back to his cage and he was quiet again, I walk away agian and the barking starts back. We did this a few times and I knew that I wasn't there to pick a dog, because this dog picked me.
Tweeker not only opened my eyes and heart to schnauzers but also to adoption. He gave us 6 wonderful years and after his passing, I knew I would adopt again.
