Jewel and I were born in the same litter. Mom and Donald had come to pick out a puppy for Mom's little niece Emily. She was suppose to have received one of Nakoma's puppies for Christmas; but her puppy died, only Slippers survived the Parvo that sickened Nakoma's pups.
Emily's Mommy still wanted a puppy for Emily, so Mom chose Jewel, the runt of the litter. In fact she looked so much like Nakoma, she could have been one of her pups. Then Donald chose me to be his, because his puppy had also died from Parvo.
After Jewel grew to become an adult dog, my Mom's sister felt she was too much for the family. My sis-fur Jewel was never anything but a Sweet girl. Mom's sister was one of those, at the time, who wanted a puppy, but not the dog they become. So my sis-fur went to live with Mom's pawrents. She loved Mom's Dad. She had a special run and turn that she did only for her Dad and my Mom. No one else. :) Mom said her smile was non-stop just like mine.
(I hope to not sound to unkind toward my sister, she did try with another dog, a Rottie. She did well with Sophie and her size, but Sophie was too large for my sister's landlord, he did not like that they had such a large dog, so she had to go. Sophie resides with my parents now. The Biggest, Sweetest fur-baby I have even known. In the 3rd and last dog my sister had, she found her soul-doggie. A Shi/Chi mix who claimed her heart. After my sister died Kiari went to live with my parents also. Kiari's sisfur, Izzie, from a different litter, also lives with my parents, a gift from my sister to them. :) Quite a group of furs!! Especially the size differences.)
Well a few weeks ago Jewel had a bad spell. Her dad thought it was her joints getting her down, but Mom believed it was a stroke. She came back and was doing well. But the same thing happened again. Her Dad was with her at all hours, day and night, checking her, making her comfortable and hand feeding her. She would try to eat just to make him happy. Well, last Saturday morning he found that she had left for the bridge during the early morning hours.
Jewel will be greatly missed by her Dad, Mom's Mom, and Mom's brother who lives with them and my Mom. Now she is here with me and we are getting to know each other all over again. It has been a long time since I last saw my sister. I will be helping her while she waits for her Dad to join her one day in the far future.
Mom is heartbroken, but so thankful to have enjoyed the many years of knowing Jewel and having her as part of her family.
Leave A Comment | 3 people already have so sorry for your loss of Jewel! hugs I'm sorry that Jewel crossed over, but I'm sure she is among a lot of happy dogs that will show her the ropes. Thank you Petey and Demon Flash Bandit for the kind words. You bet, I was one of the happy dogs when I knew she was on her way. :)
