Angels please Help me to Welcome my litter-sisfur Jewel to- the Bridge

Jewel and I were born in the same litter. Mom and Donald had come to pick out a puppy for Mom's little niece Emily. She was suppose to have received one of Nakoma's puppies for Christmas; but her puppy died, only Slippers survived the Parvo that sickened Nakoma's pups.

Emily's Mommy still wanted a puppy for Emily, so Mom chose Jewel, the runt of the litter. In fact she looked so much like Nakoma, she could have been one of her pups. Then Donald chose me to be his, because his puppy had also died from Parvo.

After Jewel grew to become an adult dog, my Mom's sister felt she was too much for the family. My sis-fur Jewel was never anything but a Sweet girl. Mom's sister was one of those, at the time, who wanted a puppy, but not the dog they become. So my sis-fur went to live with Mom's pawrents. She loved Mom's Dad. She had a special run and turn that she did only for her Dad and my Mom. No one else. :) Mom said her smile was non-stop just like mine.

(I hope to not sound to unkind toward my sister, she did try with another dog, a Rottie.She did well with Sophie and her size, but Sophie was too large for my sister's landlord, he did not like that they had such a large dog, so she had to go. Sophie resides with my parents now. The Biggest, Sweetest fur-baby I have even known. In the 3rd and last dog my sister had, she found her soul-doggie. A Shi/Chi mix who claimed her heart. After my sister died Kiari went to live with my parents also. Kiari's sisfur, Izzie, from a different litter, also lives with my parents, a gift from my sister to them. :) Quite a group of furs!! Especially the size differences.)

Well a few weeks ago Jewel had a bad spell. Her dad thought it was her joints getting her down, but Mom believed it was a stroke. She came back and was doing well. But the same thing happened again. Her Dad was with her at all hours, day and night, checking her, making her comfortable and hand feeding her. She would try to eat just to make him happy. Well, last Saturday morning he found that she had left for the bridge during the early morning hours.

Jewel will be greatly missed by her Dad, Mom's Mom, and Mom's brother who lives with them and my Mom. Now she is here with me and we are getting to know each other all over again. It has been a long time since I last saw my sister. I will be helping her while she waits for her Dad to join her one day in the far future.

Mom is heartbroken, but so thankful to have enjoyed the many years of knowing Jewel and having her as part of her family.

Three Months

Dear Belle,
It has been 3 months today since you left us. It is still hard to believe how much can change in just one hour.

Donald is really missing you Sweetie. He was talking a couple of days ago about how there seems to be a pattern. How he had his kitty Joshua and Mary Beth had his fur-bro Samson. Joshua left for the bridge before Samson did.

Then they shared the care of Nakoma, until we brought Simba home to live with us. Simba became his girl and Nakoma was Mary Beth’s. Simba left for the bridge in 2005.

After Nakoma had pups, Donald picked out Bear for his and Mary Beth chose Slippers. Bear died from parvo at 10 weeks, while our Sweet Slippers survived. Then we found you Sweetie, and Donald loved you dearly. Now you have left him also.

Donald is hurting right now. The others do keep him on his toes. He loves them so much, but he still has that empty spot that belonged to you and will always be yours.

I have noticed that we are spending more time with your furblings now. If there is one positive speck from loosing
you, it is that we once again realized just how short the time is that we are blessed to be with our furbabes.

Love and Miss you Belle,
Mom and Donald

October's Party
By: George Cooper

October gave a party;
The leaves by hundreds came—
The Chestnuts, Oaks, and Maples,
And leaves of every name.
The Sunshine spread a carpet,
And everything was grand,
Miss Weather led the dancing,
Professor Wind the band.

The Chestnuts came in yellow,
The Oaks in crimson dressed;
The lovely Misses Maple
In scarlet looked their best;
All balanced to their partners,
And gaily fluttered by;
The sight was like a rainbow
New fallen from the sky.

Then, in the rustic hollow,
At hide-and-seek they played,
The party closed at sundown,
And everybody stayed.
Professor Wind played louder;
They flew along the ground;
And then the party ended
In jolly "hands around."

Goodbye Our Sweet Bellie

This is an entry that I had hoped would not have to be written for quite some time. Today Sweet Belle suffered a stroke. My son and I rushed her to the vet's office. She was not doing well and while the vet said we could try, her breathing was already beginning to soften.

Her Donald, looked at me with tears as he made the decision to allow her to cross to the Bridge in peace.

I remember when we met her for the first time, she was only about 8 weeks old. A ball of love. Since then she has been such a good dog, a great friend to Donald.
We joke that Donald cannot afford a girlfriend, he already has 5!!

She is resting now near Simba, her dear 2nd mama dog. Simba was so good to the pups (Belle and Slippers) they adored her. Tomorrow would have been Simba's 16th birthday, Belle will be there to help Simba celebrate.

Please remember Donald and Slippers. Slippers and Belle have always been together. They always went to the vet together and have always been near each other. Slippers was wondering around looking.

Goodbye Belle,
Love Mom

My Christmas Wish For You

My Christmas wish for you, my friend
Is not a simple one
For I wish you hope and joy and peace
Days filled with warmth and sun

I wish you love and friendship too
Throughout the coming year
Lots of laughter and happiness
To fill your world with cheer

May you count your blessings, one by one
And when totaled by the lot
May you find all you've been given
To be more than what you sought

May your journeys be short, your burdens light
May your spirit never grow old
May all your clouds have silver linings
And your rainbows pots of gold

I wish this all and so much more
May all your dreams come true
May you have a Merry Christmas friend
And a happy New Year, too ..

We would like to wish all of our Dear Friends a Happy Thanksgiving!!

Thanksgiving Delights

On Thanksgiving Day we’re thankful for
Our blessings all year through,
For family we dearly love,
For good friends, old and new.
For sun to light and warm our days,
For stars that glow at night,
For trees of green and skies of blue,
And puffy clouds of white.
We’re grateful for our eyes that see
The beauty all around,
For arms to hug, and legs to walk,
And ears to hear each sound.
The list of all we’re grateful for
Would fill a great big book;
Our thankful hearts find new delights
Everywhere we look!

I turned 12!!

On November 12th I celebrated my golden Birthday--I turned 12!!
Mom sang a few times to me and we had extra treats and hot dogs (I love those).

Many friends sent me Birthday wishes and I truly loved everyone of them!! I want to thank my friends who sent pictures, rosettes and gifts.
My heart overflowed with happy thoughts of my special friends.

Today mom was saying that I need to think about a diet. I have gained a bit of weight. I will be going to the vet soon and we will know for sure. I do not like the sound of this. I'm sure it is not going to be something that I will enjoy!!

Mom says I need to play more, I say bring me a trash man, tractor or Mary Beth's husband Brad and I will play more!! I will chase them and try to make them leave my property. Although the last time I tried I tired quicker. These years are starting to catch up with me. I allowed mom to catch me without having to chase me.

I enjoyed my Birthday, come next year I will be a teen-ager!! That sounds like fun.

I'm being talked about

You know there are people out there who say that I am retarded. All because I bark at tractor tires and try to nip once in a while. I am just misunderstood. I am a border collie mix. I was made to herd sheep or other animals. Even the vet said that I am just wanting to keep my family where they should be; and everything else off of our property. I have never hurt anyone, just a nip on the heel. The first time this happened, my human sis Mary Beth was being shoved around by her cousin (a bigger girl) and I did not like that; so I nipped her heel. That was when the vet told my mommie that I was protecting Mary Beth.
One other time was when Mary Beth's uncle came in my area, he laughed at me and said go ahead it wouldn't hurt him (he had big boots on) and he encouraged me to nip his boot. The last time was Mary Beth's boyfriend (her husband now). He was coming up the ramp and he says I nipped him (they had just been canoeing and had tipped the canoe and were wet and muddy) he did not have shoes on. No one really knows if I was trying to get him to leave my property or if I was trying to let him know that I accepted him as part of the family. Well he tells everyone that I am retarded. I don't appreciate that and it is so unkind to say such things. Mommie says that it is not true and that if she had known how much I liked to herd, she would tried to find me a home on a farm. But she would have missed me seriously. People need to not judge so quickly before giving us a chance. Get to know us before you make judgment on us. :) Belle

Has anyone had to deal with a tractor before? I just do not like them. Today the township brought one by our house, cleaning the ditch. You know if they would let me get ahold of that thing, I would teach it a thing or two. Sometimes that blue tractor (it comes from the grandma's house) comes here and I chase it right off, it doesn't stay very long. I bite its tires, I don't think it likes that and that is why it leaves. Once in awhile, it will park by me, with its noisy motor shut off. And then I just climb on that brush cutting thing and lay. Then when they get ready to start it up, man I go at those tires again. Mommie tells me to leave it alone, they always make me stay back from it when it moves. That's okay, when it is moving, that means it is leaving. Mommie says she needs the dog whisperer, I don't know why. :) Belle
