Arrival Story:
One day in a long and faraway place (5 miles down the road) I stopped at a local pet store just to look. They had many cute and adorable puppies, but there was also a cute fluffy soft dog that looked something like a lamb and a llama. Well, the lamb looking dog won me over. I took one look at him and my heart was stolen. The breeder told methat he was a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier. I never heard of this breed, but the puppy was soooooo soft and playful that I decided to go home and think about it. As soon as I got home I immediately jumped on the internet and looked up this breed. I immediately fell in love with the pictures of the puppies. They all looked like little Boyd bears. After much research and to my surprise I found a local breeder. I contacted the breeder and within the same hour she sent me pictures of her puppies. Well, one particular puppy picture caught my eye. He was adorable!! I had a plan. I decided was just going to go and look even though I had enough cash on me to buy him. I was just looking and the other part of the plan was to negotiate a lower price. I drove and took several wrong turns, but just when I was about to give up I found the dirt road and then the house. One look at Baxter and I was smitten! I never even mentioned the price. I just scooped him up and left as fast as I could!! So,I was off and running with my new addition!! Now, I know what you are thinking. Do you have any idea what type of breed you got? The answer is yes! oh yes! I know exactly what I was getting in to. I realize that the terrier breed is very stubborn, but I also knew that they were extremely intelligent. And that is where my mission began. My mission was to train this sweet little guy to be the most obedient and well behaved dog anyone had ever seen. Lo and behold, Baxter ended up training me!! He made me realize that what I thought that this puppy was dumb as a rock was actually his superior intelligence over mine. Almost a year later and at my wits end, I found out that there are more ways than one to train, especially with a terrier breed. Once I discovered how talented and athletic Baxter was I enrolled in him Agility. I had absolutely no experience on how to be a handler and I knew nothing about this canine sport. However, both Baxter and I did awesome!! Baxter has taught me more than 11 years of being in the military could ever have! He has taught me to be patient, to be a nicer person, and what it truly means to love unconditionally. Plus, he has this amazing innate ability to pick up on emotions. Baxter is the sweetest boy I have ever met and I love him with all my heart!!
