Arrival Story:
Zoey is a Dalmation/Dingo mix. (That is what I was told.) Before I moved here from Arkansas, I worked at a place that is similar to Highmark Kennel. This happened in April 2006. There was a woman traveling from Colorado to Georgia. Apparently her car broke down in Arkansas near my job. She had 3 dogs and 2 cats in the car with her when she dropped them off. She said that she was going to stay in a hotel and come back in the morning to pick up her pets. She never showed up. Her name, her address, and her phone number were all fake. Fortunately Zoey still had her rabies tag on her collar, so we found her Vet and they faxed over her records and information. The vet said that Zoey has been abused by a man before. That explained why she was always in the corner in her cage and would snarl at men every time they walk by. The other 2 dogs that were with her has been adopted. One was a German Shepard that was adopted by a police officer. The other one was a Pug mix that was adopted by a loving family. No one wanted to adopt Zoey because of her behavior. She was at my job for 2 months. And the whole 2 months, I would walk into her cage gently and try to comfort her. Many days have gone by, she was finally starting to trust me and would let me pet her. One day, my boss came up to me and informed me that Zoey had one week left to be adopted or she would be put to sleep. I couldn't let that happen to her so I offered to adopt her. I brought her home with me and she was still scared and would hide in the corner. She finally warmed up to me but not others. It has been a year and half later and she has improved SO much. She now will go up to people and let them pet her!! =) She loves going to Barton Springs to swim with other dogs.
