Mom was remembering the Thanksgivings from the far past, when the whole family would gather together when she lived in Southern California.
Everyone would take turns hosting, and Mom liked it best when our Grammy had it..
It would take days to get ready..The house would be spotless and all the fun of shopping for just the right Turkey and fixings..
They had wonderful decorations of Pilgrims and Indians and faux fall leaves, that were placed on the piano and sideboard..Mom's favorite was a huge fold open Turkey that sat in the middle of the dining table until it was time to eat..
Soon, the relatives would arrive with side dishes of potato salad and pies and all the good things that make dinner special
There was always a lot of laughter and chatting and hugging ..
When it was time to eat, everyone would sit down and they would hold hands and say the blessing and give thanks for being together..
After dinner the table would be cleared and the food stored until it was time to snack later...
Most everyone would sit at the table and play cards and talk about how it was when they were growing up..Like the time Grammy and her sisters stole some of their Dads tobacco and tried to smoke, but set the outhouse on fire, and the time they were making up the roll away bed and closed one of their sisters up in it...
Mom used to love these stories, it was so much fun to hear that her Mom wasn't such a little angel...bol
Time passes and the only constant is change..
We are truly thankful for having our Mom and Dad to love us, a wonderful farm to live on ...and all our pals here on Dogster..
May you always have special memories and have a wonderful Thanksgiving
