Abandoned at the Dog Park!

We went to the dog park last Friday and had a great time. Mom was very careful with my sister, making sure Lexie knew where she was the whole way. Sheesh, we were here two weeks ago before anyone even realized she was losing her sight and she did just fine! But now Mom is a bit paranoid.
So we hiked around and sniffed and peed and then went back to the van. Mom opened the door and made sure Lexie got in safely and then we all drove off. Mom went all the way to Petsmart to look for some "blind-friendly" dog toys for Lexie. When she got there, she opened the back door and leashed up Lexie and called for me. I was so not in there.

You have to understand that I am very quiet in the car and I do not move around much at all. I do fine, but don't like the movement of the van, so I usually just tuck in and lie low. But Mom knew I shouldda been at the door when the van engine went off. Uh-oh.

Mom turned around toot-sweet and drove straight back to the dog park, biting her nails and praying prayers the whole way. She called the home phone answering machine to hear if anyone had called the number on my tag. No messages. She pulled back into the parking lot, and there I was - playin' wif my peeps. Mom called to me and I came runnin' and she scooped me up and put some serious lovin' all over me. A small crowd of humans came up and asked all about Mom and me. One lady said she had called our house a few times, but hadn't left a message. She said she was gonna wait a short time more and then she would have driven over to my house! I bet that wouldda been fun! Mom started leakin' a bit and squeezed me kinda hard. But I endured it cuz I think she missed me or somethin'.

This is what Mom calls a "bad mom" experience. I dunno. I thought it was fun. I jus figured she wanted some Lexie-time. And you know what? Lexie never said a word! She knew I wasn't in that van. Isn't that jus like her to actually enjoy leavin' me behind?! Mom said I should journal this traumatic experience as a cathartic exercise. I tol her I had extra time runnin' all over at the dog park and din need no more exercise jus now, but that maybe I would write about it in my diary, you know, just to get those excited feelings outta my system.

Everythin's good. 'Cept Lexie, of course. Phooey on her!
