I can tell when someone needs my help and attention. I steal kleenex out of people's pockets.
Our flat-coated retriever, Roxy, had just passed away after months of treatment for renal failure. We agreed not to get another dog for several months. The next day we went to lunch and for some reason I had brought the want ads, just to think ahead for when we were ready to find another dog. We discussed relative merits of Border Collies, Labrador Retrievers and Golden Retrievers. We saw an ad for purebred Golden Retriever Puppies from a breeder named Fickhill in Loretto, MN, which is a small town within driving distance of the Twin Cities, where we live. We called and learned that he had only two females left, so we jumped in the car and started driving.
The breeder showed us the family in clean, roomy pens in the barn, the mother and pups kept right next to the father so the family could be close. Sophies parents were beautiful! Her father: Governor Jesse, was a majestic Golden. Her mother was gorgeous and all the puppies were so cute. There were two girls: one light, fluffy and sleepy, one dark and mischievious. We were immediately drawn to the darker one, and agreed to buy her on the spot. As we drove home with Sophie, someone else was driving up toward the farmhouse. We have always imagined that they would have taken Sophie if we hadn't acted to quickly despite our reservations about another dog so soon.
What can I do to help?
