IT'S ALL ABOUT ME!!!

I'm having an MRI done tomorrow

[ View A Comments (55) ]

I've been going to accupuncture for 6 months now and its not working any more. We started laser treatments week before last and they didn't work either. We've tried everything possible including holistic medication and I'm still limping after a year. I had blood work done last week and it came back normal as have all the x-rays they've done over the past year. So mom is taking me to have an MRI done tomorrow morning. There's no guarantee they'll even find anything, but hopefully they will so at least we'll have something to treat and work with.

I'll update you on what the MRI reveals.

~Doo

Thanks everybody! I got mom up bright (??) and early this morning to make sure we didn't oversleep. Its on the other side of town and she wants to leave early enough so she won't hit the morning rush hour traffic. She says I can't have anything to eat before we go. :( Good thing I have the steak you left me Zoe. I can eat it while mom's driving home when she comes to pick me up today. I'll let you know how things go today. Wish me luck..............

She's not going to get to go home til tomorrow....this was NEVER mentioned to me. As a matter of fact they said she'd be able to come home today since she was having it done so early in the morning! So very unhappy right now!!! :'(

November 28th 2012 at 7:00 pm

Doo's mom here....The vet called me herself around 4:30, and I told her how unhappy I was about Doo having to stay there. I told her if I had any inkling that they might keep her, that would have been fine, at least I would have known but for me to call at 4 o'clock and find out she wasn't coming home infuriated me. She said they should have told me that it might have been a possibility. After she explained that she would be sleeping most of the night and I would probably have a hard time taking care of her to go outside and all, I was o.k. But still..its the principal of the matter.

Then came the big news.........she said Doo has a compressed disc and they could do surgery to "clean" it out and get it better. I asked how much it would be and she said..."I usually quote a price with the MRI together and its around $5000!" OH. MY. GOD! All I could do was cry! And cry. And cry. That is SOO much money for me! I paid $1500 today and that price included an overnight stay (should she need it)when they gave me an estimate (whoopee) and that there's a new radiologist working there and she wants her to look at it in the morning. And she said there would be no charge for her consult. (another whoopee) But, I got myself together and I'm o.k. I'm going to ask if I can wait til Mar to have surgery done. I'll have money then. Don't want to take out a loan or ask siblings to borrow. So, I'll see what all is said tomorrow.

She did say Doo has some atrophying of her muscles in her left leg, since she doesn't put her full weight on the leg. Also, some good news is that all her bones are healthy and there's no tumors anywhere. (I worried constantly about bone cancer since my first Weimaraner had it and she first started out by limping also.) She'll be 9 next yr, so she should do o.k. with the surgery even at that age.

Thank you all for all the encouragement, well wishes and POTP. It means alot to me and I appreciate it. And like everybody says...DOGSTER people are the best...yes they are!! :)

November 28th 2012 at 7:08 pm

Oh Auntie Lou Ann...if my outstanding vet bill wasn't still so high, Momma would send you money to help pay for Doo's surgery. Momma used Care Credit to pay my bill, and they have deals where you can have interest free payments for a certain amount of time. It might be something to look into if Doo can't wait. Now when she gets home, you give that gorgeous girl some licks and wags from me, and lots and lots of kisses from Momma. She says put them kisses right between her gorgeous eyes, cause that's the best spot to kiss a pup. We love you lots!!

HUGSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Ok.. the shock is the worst case scenario.... and always so hard to deal with.

You try to get some rest now as well.. and see what the morning brings. It MAY be possible that there are other ways to try as well.. but for now.... let the results be read in the light of day.. and go from there.

You can also do simple physio on Doo's leg to get the muscles working again.... lots you can do with that... I know Josephine and Jolanda's Mum did that for Jojo . That will help you.. and help Doo. as well. And is a good start...

Breathe... rest... and know many care.

O-M-D!!! Now I KNOW Doo is at that crazy 'espensive place on Sontara Dr.!!! My brudder Jasper picked a fight with a German Shepherd once and lost. It happened in the late afternoon on a Saturday so his regular vet was closed and Paw-Paw had Auntie take him to the 'mergency place on Sontara. Just to drain & clean his small wound he was made to stay overnite & Paw-Paw was charged $700! When I lived with me Ma Letty, I hurt me back and Ma tooked me there. They operated on me & I had to stay there a few days. Ma paid over $3000! The sad thing is that if I's not mistaken, that are the only place here in SA that has all the fancy 'quiptment needed to performed those tests & 'operashions. Fizzy Mom has a clever idea maybe worth looking into.

Aww, my dearest friends...with tears in my eyes I want to tell you all that I truly appreciate your offers to help with Doo's bill. I'm going to look into that CareCredit. (I get money in March from my mom's estate, so I could pay it off in 3 months.) And with no interest, that card sounds good to me. I'll be o.k. I promise! :)

Yes Ceeley, that's where Miss Doo is at. They do have top of the line equipment, but I didn't think I had to help pay for it. LOL

P.S. Knowing the people who have helped Dogster pals, please, believe me when I say I'll be o.k. I promise. (scout's honor.) Please don't send money. I truly appreciate the offer and that means more to me that anything else in the world. IF it should come to pass that I need money, I promise I'll tell you all and we can set up the fund raiser. How's that? I DO promise. I just needed someone to vent to and who better than Dogster pals? :)

HONEY I'M HOMEEEEEEEEEEE! yep its me, Doo! We just got home a bit ago and before we left the vet clinic, we scheduled my surgery for Tue. The vet said I'll probably have to stay over 2 nights since its major surgery and mostly its for pain management. She said I'll have to be quiet for 4-6 weeks and then we might possibly do water rehab to get my muscles built up in my leg since they have atrophied from me not putting my full weight on it.

I couldn't wait to go potty in my own yard. Mom said I peed for 3like 5 minutes and have been drinking water like I'm getting ready to cross the desert. BOL

Mom said she didn't sleep well last night even tho her eyes were tired from crying cause I wasn't home with her. She didn't even try sleeping on her bed, she slept on the couch. She's decided she's going to get a mattress and put it on the floor in our bedroom for us to sleep on rather than the couch. That sounds good to me just as long as I'm near mom

I think I'm going to take a nap, I'm so tired. (Don't tell mom, but I didn't sleep real good away from her and Austin either.) :)

Love you guyses!!

My dearest friends, LouAnnie and Doo ~

I didnt sleep well last night cuz I am so concerned for you. I know the stress you are feeling so well and wish so much I could take it away.

YOU KNOW I am here for you 24/7! I will even keep my phone on for you! LOL! I remember the nights you were there for me after Sun's operations. You were my rock. You are so strong, LouAnnie, something I admire so much in you.

I'm really glad tho they finally found out the cause of Doo's limping and he will finally be pain free. It may take time, but he will be better, and best of all, eventually, you will be able to sleep in your bed again one day!

I will be praying for you guys...

Aww thanks Angel Sunny, Hershey and Mazy. I hope I feel better as soon as I'm home from the hospital. Mom has the hardest job, keeping me quiet. She's got to walk me on a leash outside to go potty. No running or jumping. I like to sleep on the couch so mom said she's going to take the cushions off and put some blankies for softness so I can just step on the couch rather than jump on it like I do. Sophie Claire said she had to stay in a crate after she had surgery, so mom might have to get me one of those if I don't do like I'm supposed to. (Paws crossed that I behave and don't have to stay in a crate.) :(

SURGERY'S OVER! YAY!

Doo's mom here....

Vet just called a bit ago. Surgery went well. There was a lot of junk around the disc that they had to scrape out and there was a vein that was attached to it so there was some bleeding, but they got it under control real fast and she's doing fine. She said they'll do everything at Doo's pace...if she wants to go out to potty later they'll take her, if not thats o.k. too. She said with all the junk that was around the disc that they removed, Doo will be feeling alot better. We talked about visiting and we've decided I'm not going to go so she won't wonder why I was there and then left w/o taking her home with me. Its best not to get her excited and her blood pressure up seeing me, so I'll just wait til she comes home. A good friend of mine loaned me her corral if I need to keep Doo confined. With me home 24/7, I don't think that'll be necessary, but I have it just in case. Thanks so much for all the prayers and good vibes for my Doo. It really helped her come thru the surgery with no problems. And it helped me ALOT too to know that everybody was behind her and angels at the bridge were watching over her while the she was in surgery. :)
