My dear friend Buttercup went to The Rainbow Bridge today. I have known her since I joined Dogster. She was a rescue pup who was adopted into the perfect family. Nobody could have given her more love or taken better care of her than they did. I always felt that Buttercup was the perfect Dogster member. She was sweet, kind to everyone, supportive and loved Dogster. When I joined Dogster I admired her as an admin. She created fun games, always recognized birthdays, set up candle pages for those that needed prayers and was a good friend to everyone. I was given a chance to be an admin in her group and always tried to live up to her example. It is hard to picture Dogster without her presence. I know that the Rainbow Bridge just became a more beautiful place with her arrival.

Rest in peace Buttercup. You are loved and missed and live on in our hearts.

My TV debut

Mom has submitted my picture to our morning CBS station. Each day they pick someone to be their Doggone Weather Star of the Day and today my picture was selected. It is featured on their Facebook page and also was shown on television! I deserve a special treat today!

Meteorologist Hanna Brewer

On a sad note we read that our new American Eskimo friend Samantha went to The Rainbow Bridge yesterday. She had lung cancer and was ready to leave and her mom did not want her to suffer any longer. We are very sad to hear this. She was very loved and it is always hard for the family to let go. Mom always is sad to think of how few years we actually get to have together. It is never enough.

Today we went to Lake of the Woods and we played the run to mommy get a treat, run to daddy get a treat game. Then Mom took me for a nice long walk and we took the nature trail, not the bicycle path. I love all the things to sniff along the way and it felt good to be outside in the fresh air. I am so worn out, I have been napping all evening. I hope we go again tomorrow!

Missing, Royal Member of the Day Thread

I know that I am not alone in having one or more missing group threads, but losing our Royal Member of the Day thread in PDPC really is upsetting. This thread was started in the summer of 2008 and as far as I can remember, someone has been made Royal Member of the Day every day since. Buttercup and I have always made sure that we have never missed honoring a different member every day of the year.

I do not know how many posts this thread had but it was huge and represented work and dedication. I know other furs have lost threads that were very important to them and their groups too. I hope that HQ can retrieve these threads for us. We would be very grateful.

The Saga of the Suitcase Dogs!

Two weeks ago, my mom brought suitcases down from the attic. I know what that means! It means that her and dad are leaving on vacation and I would be going to stay at my furless sister's house. I enjoy being there with her and her dog Bonnie but this time I decided I wanted to go on vacation too!

I formed a plan! I would sneak into Mom and Dad's suitcase and then end up in their vacation spot with them. I did not want to go alone so I posted a sign up sheet at PDPC and 9 other dogs signed up to go on this adventure with me! We did not know where we were going but judging by the clothes in the suitcase, it was going to be someplace warm!

So into the suitcase we went! Charlie, Buttercup, Star, Walker, Roscoe, George, Amazing Grace, Hershey, Riley and I were very quiet and even though there were some comments about how heavy this suitcase was, nobody caught on!

When Mom opened the suitcase she was so surprised!

We were suprprised too! We were in St. Thomas, USVI!

View from the balcony

We all had a great time in St. Thomas! We went to the pool and the beach and on the tram ride at Paradise Point. We went on sailboats, took the ferry to St. John and did some snorkeling! It was a fun trip!

At the pool

Met new friends

When the two weeks were up we jumped back into the suitcase to go home. We were supposed to fly from St. Thomas to Miami to Chicago and then end up in Bloomington, Illinois. Unfortunately the luggage was not loaded on the last plane and we were left overnight in O'Hare Airport! Lucky for us there are lots of good places to eat at O'Hare!

We ate at Rick Bayless's Tortas Frontera, Wolfgang Puck's, Macaroni Grill, Pizzeria Uno. Berghoff Cafe and Wicker Park Sushi Bar. We bought snacks at Nuts On Clark and Garrett's Popcorn! We shopped for souvenirs and did some sightseeing.

in the airport

The next day we were put on the plane for Bloomington and delivered to my house and all the dogs were sent safely home! What a fun trip we had! We will have to do this again! I hear the pawrents are going away again in July! Hmmmmm.........

Note from the typist! This story is fictional and no dogs were harmed, lost or mistreated!

Note from Bailey! It is so true and we are going to do it again! I already have some pals signed up for July!

Thank you Dogster for the free box of chocolates to send to all my pals today! I did my best to send out as many as I could and if I forgot anyone, it was not intentional. It was lovely to be able to give so many good presents on a holiday that celebrates love.

Tomorrow mom and dad will be home and I will be back home again. I have had a wonderful visit with my furless sister and Bonnie but it will be nice to be home again and see my mom and dad and I sure hope they bring me a pressie!

Thank you Dogster HQ for choosing me as one of you Daily Diary Picks, even if it was the one about me going to the V-E-T!

I do appreciate it and it almost made the experience better! BOL!

Daddy took me to the V-E-T!

Today mommy went to work and I was spending a nice day with Daddy. In the afternoon he said we were going for a ride. I love to go for rides. If we go to the bank or the pharmacy, they give me a treat. I got in the car and was so excited to be going for a ride. Then I saw where we were going! It was the dreaded v-e-t!

Dad had to pull me out of the car. I knew this was not going to be good! They gave me my annual exam and they gave me SHOTS! I told you this was not a good place. When it was over they gave me a treat. I took it but I was not happy with them. It is much better to go to the bank for a treat.

When mom got home I made sure to look pitiful so I could get some sympathy and another treat from her.

Bonnie and the bunny

My furless sister wanted to go visit a friend of hers this weekend so she dropped off Bonnie to stay with us.

Bonnie loves to stay over but she has managed to get herself in trouble a couple of times when she visited us. Twice she escaped from the yard. The first time she did that, she wanted to go to a party at the house next door to us, so we found her quite easily. The second time she went over to the Junior High school (about a 1/2 block away) and a very nice boy helped her get home.

Tonight mom let us out after dinner and when we came through the doggy door into the enclosed porch Bonnie was carrying a big dead bunny in her mouth. Mom screamed (she screams loud) and told Bonnie to drop it. Bonnie dropped the bunny and mom got us both inside the house.

Now she is trying to talk dad into going on the porch to pick it up and get rid of it. He told her he will do it after the football game! I don't know what all the fuss is about!

After football game #1 and before dad got settled in for football game #2, mom talked dad into helping pick up the bunny! Friends on Facebook were warning mom about fleas and other things that the bunny could be leaving on our porch. I will not say they looked like The Three Stooges picking up the bunny, (since there are only two of them) but they were having trouble. Dad put on gloves and got my pooper scooper and mom held the trash bag. He kept picking it up and dropping it but finally they got the poor bunny inside the bag and off the porch. Then mom began scrubbing the floor where it had lain.

We were now free to use the doggy door to the backyard and mom let us out for potty time before bed. She wiped our feet before we could come in but apparently did not get Bonnie's paws very good. Bonnie then jumped on the cream colored couch in the living room and left mud prints. Mom said some bad words, cleaned that up and we went to bed.

Today is another day! I wonder what adventures we will have today!

Spring in January

This week we have had some warm days. Most of the week it has been in the 50's and today it was in the 60's. The grandkids came over after school and played ball with me in the backyard. I had a great time and it was fun to have them come over.

Tomorrow evening we are supposed to start getting rain and by Sunday it might be snow. I like snow but mom and dad are not happy about this news.
