Arrival Story:
We got J.D. on July 30, 2004, from a neglectful home. She was very thin, and she couldn't see or hear. We're not sure exactly how old she was - the birthdate above is a guess, and her first vet record was from 1990. She was chained outside her whole life, until one day she got a cut in her neck. By the time her family took her to the vet for it, the wound was infested with maggots, and she had to have major surgery. She has a scar running from the base of her neck to the base of her tail - it took over 70 stitches to put her back together. The vet said she couldn't be outside all the time anymore, so the family locked her in a basement bathroom, where she trained herself to poop and pee in the bathtub because she was still trying to be a good dog and not go on the floor. We heard of her through the son of a friend of her family, and offered to adopt her. We started out just planning to foster her, but soon we decided that as long as she needed a family, and as long as she was happy here, we'd keep her with us for whatever time she had left.

Bio:
J.D. passed away on the day after Christmas, 2005, snuggled in her Daddy's arms - her favorite place in the world. In spite of everything she went through, she was a total sweetie. She was always wagging her tail and smiling and wanting to be with people.
