The Autumn Of My Life

It is our favorite time of the year around here, Autumn has officially arrived! Mom is putting out all the fall decorations, and she used some of them to take pictures of us for our family's Fall Dogster and Catster pages! Of course it reminded her of when she first adopted me last year and bought me a collar with fall colors on it and told the salesman at the pet store it was because "Sunny is in the AUTUMN of his life". Of course, til this day, she still laughs because, when he looked at me, he tried to sell her a collar with SNOWMEN on it!! Well I sure showed him!! Despite my age, I am one happy senior doggie enjoying my life in my loving forever home . . .

I love to go on walks!

Despite my arthritis, there is nothing I like better to do (well, except maybe for eating) than to go on walks with Mom and Wesley. Because the beach we usually walk on was so crowded yesterday due to the holiday, Mom decided to look for a new place to take us. She knew that there is lots of vacant land not too far from our home that was a part of the former Fort Ord. She drove to an area that has been developed, parked in an empty parking lot, and that's when we found this great trail that goes for miles. Like the beach, the ground is nice and soft for my arthritic legs. There are lots of wild bunnies and other wildlife around so it makes for a very fun walk!! Yep, as long as we don't run into any coyotes or mountain lions, we have a new fun place to walk!

CABIN FEVER!

We are always talking about going on vacation to our cabin, so we decided to do our pages in a "Cabin Fever" theme. Our cabin is in the Sierra Neveda Mountains of California on Donner Lake. (thats close to a more familiar Lake Tahoe). We love to go there and go hiking and swimming. There are even bears there, but we don't really see them too often. I love going there during the Summer, but I am not too sure about Winter yet! Oh yes, mom always says that we are very lucky that we weren't part of the Donner Party--not sure what that means cause we love parties!!!

If I WERE AN OLYMPIAN . . .

Mom says that if I were an Olympian, despite my age, with a big heart like mine, I could do anything I wanted to. You see, being a dog, I don't know that I am quite old. Every morning when Mom takes me to the beach, despite my arthritis and crooked little legs, I run around like a puppy (well, at least for awhile!). So I understand, that to be an Olympian, it takes lots of talent--but lots of heart too. For having a big heart like I do, Mom says I am her gold medal winner everyday . . .

$29.00 TO DO WHAT!!??

I went to see my veternarian, Dr. Bill, yesterday for my "senior checkup" and lab studies. Well, if it's samples you need to run some tests on me, I can tell you as soon as I walked thru the door and smelled all those doctor kind of smells, I immediately left them a sample(urine) right on the floorl And then when I was taken by the nice assistant to be weighed, I left them another sample right on the scale!! They took me in another room to draw some blood from my leg, and I left them another sample right on the table! All went pretty well after that. Mom paid the bill and I was sure glad we were on our way home. But what amazed Mom when she got home was the $29.00 charge on the bill for "catheterization--also known as collecting a urine sample"--like that was necessary when I was volunteering so many samples to them already!! I did my best to save Mom that $29.00 charge-- and now she kind of wonders if the bill should have really read "non-refundable cleaning deposit" . . .

The Brave One

With all this loud noise that is going to be happening the next week or so, I guess it is going to have to be me that is the brave one around here. Everytime someone sets off a firecracker, my silly brother Wesley barks and then trys to run and hide under mom's bed--only thing is, his 80lb body won't fit!! So it is my job to be brave and just stay calm and let him know everything is OK. It's so much fun to be the brave big brother somedays . . .of course, at my age, it doesn't hurt to be a little deaf in this situation!!

We are back from another fun trip to our cabin in the mountains. We met up again with my foster mom Kim from Nor Cal Aussie Rescue. I got to meet several of her new foster doggies and go on a hike with them. I hope they are lucky enough to find forever homes like I did . . . Good news too, while we were gone, my Rainbow Bridge brother Dekker was Dog Of The Day---that sure made Mom proud when we got home. Bark to you later!!

SO PROUD TO BE PART OF THE DOGSTER/CASTER FAMILY

Several days ago, Laurel Jaffer, a beloved member of the Catster/Dogster family, passed away unexpectedly in Florida. She left behind her dog Noelle and cats Tess and Aldo. There were no immediate family members to give these guys a home. But what happened next is extrordinary. With Catster Hazel Lucy in charge, members of the Catster/Dogster community organized raising money, rescuing Noelle from an animal shelter, hiring trappers to catch Aldo and Tess, putting up lost posters and offering a reward to find the lost kitties. Mollie's mom bailed Noelle out of the shelter, took her to a veterinarian, got her on an airplane, flew her to New Mexico where she is now living in her new forever home with Ziggy Stardust's mom. Aldo was captured and is now living with Ele's mom and will eventually be taken to her forever home in Baltimore. More extrodinary efforts have been make to trap Tess with Ashlye and Tyler's moms driving hundreds of miles this week-end to go to Laurel's home to apply their skills to try to find Tess. Every effort will be made to find her.
We are so proud to see what the Dogster/Catster family will do to take care of "their own", both two legged and four legged family members. We give everyone involved in these heartfelt rescues "4 paws up". We are so proud to be a small part of this wonderful family and so grateful for all the good friends we have made here.
We doubt that Laurel had any idea about the love she would find on this site when she joined, but we are sure that she now knows . . .
