Dear Friends and Family,

I am excited to be participating in the 2008 Tails on the Trails fundraiser sponsored by Tails of the Tundra Siberian Husky Rescue, Inc. (TOTTSHR). I will spend the morning hiking to help Siberian Huskies. As an added bonus, there is a good chance that I may even win a great prize for the most money raised.

Tails of the Tundra Siberian Husky Rescue, Inc. (TOTTSHR), is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization comprised of volunteers throughout PA, MD, NJ, DE, WV and NY who dedicate their time and effort to rescuing Siberian Huskies and Siberian Husky mixes from shelters, abusive homes, or owners who can no longer properly care for their dogs. Their goal is to place these dogs in loving homes and to educate people about the characteristics of this often misunderstood breed. They have proven their success with the placement of more than 700 dogs in permanent homes since April 2000.

On September 20, 2008, TOTTSHR will hold its 6th annual Tails on the Trails at Warminster Community Park in Warminster, PA. Tails on the Trails 2008 will consist of a fundraising hike as well as many activities including a picnic, silent auction, microchip clinic, mushing demonstration and CGC testing.

This is where you come in – won’t you help support TOTTSHR by making a pledge? I will greatly appreciate any amount no matter how small. You can sponsor me by sending me cash, check, money order or sponsor me with paypal by visiting: http://www.siberescue.com/Common/TailsTrails2008/pledgepaypa l.html#TehyaMaya

Your donation is a tax deductible pledge and it will help save the lives of Siberian Huskies and Siberian Husky Mixes!

Sincerely,
Maya

WOO-HOO! Mom just got off of the phone with the vet. My latest U/A showed that overnight, I concentrated my urine beautifully! My kidneys are working properly. No Cushings, no Addison's, no problem. Whew! Doc says he feels confident that I am well and we will just check things out at my next routine visit. Thank you to all that have sent notes of support. They go a long way. Mom can finally exhale and I am off to find more trouble, create more ruckus, and kill more crickets. Life is good. :)

Well Scooby, we have a mystery on our hands.

Mom finally spoke with the vet last night about my blood work. It all looks pretty good, but my thyroid levels are elevated. So, more blood work for me. He also wants us to bring in another urine sample from my first walk in the morning, so mom got one and we will drop it off today to see if I am concentrating my urine overnight. We also have to check my zinc levels again. Doc says when I left the hospital last time my zinc levels were 4+. (Normal is 0.75) He is stumped as to what is going on with me, but we are going to figure it out. Will keep you posted.

Still Waiting

No new news to report. Mom called the doctor's office twice yesterday and my blood work was not back yet, so we wait. In the mean time, I am as happy and playful as ever.

Saying a little prayer

Well, I have decided to make it my occupation to make mom worry. I went to the vet today for my routine shots. I have a very wonderful new doctor who takes his time with me and listens to mom and all of her questions about nutrition, vaccines, etc. She talked with him about my little Desitin eating adventure and we decided to do a quick U/A to make sure all is well.

Things aren't so well. The specific gravity of my urine is extreemly low. This means one of two things. A) I am a northern breed dog living in a sweltering hot state, and I am drinking WAY too much water, which is diluting my urine to abnormal levels or B) I could have a kidney disease probably brought on by zinc toxicity. The doctor mentioned both Addison's disease and Cushings. Mom is supposed to now monitor the volume of water that I drink on a daily basis. And she is going to do that with three dogs in the house, how? He drew more blood and will call mom in the morning. Until then mom is doing research and worrying yet again about me. She called me a drama queen, then gave me kisses. I have a feeling I'll be sleeping on the bed with her tonight. :)

Say a little prayer for me.

Peace out~
Maya

In the Hospital

Maya began violently vomiting a milky substance about an hour ago. Upon further investigation, I found a chewed up container of Desitin that she ate durning the night. I ran her to the vet and they hospitalized her. Apparently there is high a high concentration of zinc in the ointment (which they kindly add fish oil to... quite appealing to a dog) and it can make them go into renal failure quite quickly. She is already showing signs of anemia. She is getting charcoal, bloodwork, x-rays and fluids and will be in the hospital for the next few days. Please, please, please say a prayer for her today. If anything were to happen to her it would be the end me.

Worried Sick,

or something like that. Mom says I am being weird today. Running from shadows, staring off into the air, hanging REAL close to her feet and keeping my tail tucked snugly between my legs. Mom can't figure it out. I have never been spooked by ANYTHING and today I am spooked by EVERYTHING! Gotta lay off those magic mushrooms.

When I got home there was a special package here sent from my sweet pals Tink and Natasha, They sent me and my sisters a box full of squeaky toys and gourmet dog treats. I feel SO special! I will get a slide show up for you tomorrow, Tinkaroo. THANK YOU! And extra big thanks and hugs to all of you that sent p-mails and gifts. You are an amazing group of individuals here on Planet Dogster and I love each and every one of you both canine and human. I LOVE birthdays!

Care Again is a non profit organization which raises wolves, performs wolf studies and in the past has offered outreach programs.

Zoning changes made it mandatory to relocate the wolves and time is running out due to lack of funding and helping hands. The wolves were moved to a pristine nature preserve backing into a national forest in Colorado. Presently volunteers are urgently needed to help finish building the fence to ensure the safety of the wolf pack. The materials are there with a single set of human hands trying to manage it alone, due to the weather and other duties like feeding and tending to the wolves, it has been nearly impossible to accomplish this important task.

People interested in volunteering near Woodland Park CO. may contact J. Harris at:719-748-3780

Please have the patience to leave your name and number to be reached TWICE as the answering machine is less than state of the art and the wolf guardian is often away tending to the wolves.
You may also contact Sasha at LenaMalikhusky@gmail.com with any further questions.

Donations of any amount towards this 501 non profit organization are welcomed and greatly appreciated.

Feeling Blue

It has been six months since my friend Blue has gone missing. Every day seems like an eternity for his mom, but we will not give up. His story is being heard across the nation and across the world. We will not stop searching until you are home.

Friends~

Please copy and paste Blue's information into your diary and then tag some of your friends to do the same. Someone, somewhere knows what happened to Blue. The more eyes and ears that see his face and hear his story, the better chance that we have to get him home where he belongs. We would do it for any of you! That's the power of the paw!

Blue, a black and white Siberian Husky (4 year old male, brown eyes, microchipped) has been missing since May 8, 2007 from Brighton, MI.
