Memories keep me alive

I am here as long as I remain in the heart of those who love me. I am grateful for a life of love and never wanting, as many pups cannot and will never have that in their lives. Mostly I am grateful for being one of the family. A pup to live life to the fullest just like any other family member. Remember me today with the joy in your heart of the life we shared. Here is my poem to you all, the family who loved me.

Thank You

Even though I`m gone, I`ll never forget
the way you looked when we first met.
Your hand reached out and stroked my hair,
our eyes glistened, fixed in a stare.
I knew from this moment how life would be,
you were my companion and yours was me.
These memories are always in my head;
long walks, the games, my cozy bed,
Gentle words spoken, never a yell,
someone to listen, a secret to tell.
But, each year of mine was equal to seven.
I`ll be watching you now, from up here in heaven,
When rain drops fall, it`s my tears I cry,
Remembering your love from my bed in the sky.
Whispering winds carry my promise to you,
For being my friend I will forever....Thank You.

It's been two years without my baby girl

Two years ago on that early Sunday morning, we said goodbye to our beloved Tara. We were not ready to let you go and part of me has always felt I let you down by not helping you cross over but knowing you as I did for those 13 1/2 years makes me believe you were right where you wanted to be, at home with your pawrents at your side. You fought long and hard with your heart failure and we love and appreciate how long you held on for us. This year there is a little extra sadness as I fear for your memorial tree, but I will leave it in God's hands and hope it makes a rebound next spring. You touched the lives of many in your senior years. Everyone was moved by your courage and patience with all the vet visits, x-rays, and medications. You took everything with stride, something I am not sure you would have appreciated in your youth. The day Chrissy brought you to us in January of 1994 was a day I will never forget. My first thought was, OMD she is going to be HUGE! You were all fluff though and as it turns out, you grew into a very tiny petite little Chow girl. You and Sandi grew up with the boys and it was a pleasure to watch you all mature. Rest my sweet baby girl and know I loved you and always will.

Love,
Mom

A truly fitting poem for our precious angel -

In Our Heart

We thought of you with love today, but that is nothing new.
We thought about you yesterday, and days before that too.
We think of you in silence. We often speak your name.
Now all we have is memories, and your picture in a frame.
Your memory is our keepsake, with which we’ll never part.
God has you in his keeping.
We have you in our heart.

You will always be remembered Nala

Today my friend Nala ID #412843 (who was like my twin) joined me at the Rainbow Bridge. My family is deeply saddened to hear the news as they were so very fond of her. I can't remember exactly how they found her in Dogsterland, but the moment they did they commented on how much she looked like me and how precious she was. Well, that was the beginning of our friendship and we treasure it dearly. It is not the ending though. Nala, here is a poem for you, beautiful girl.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to your family and kitty siblings.

Worried about my tree

I hope one of my pup pals can help mom with my tree. When spring started the buds on my tree seemed plentiful and flourishing but once they opened, they haven't done as well. The tree is far less full than it was last year ( which was it's first year coming back). Looking back at pics from last year in July, you can see it is less full this year. Mom hopes it is just a transition because this is the first year it seeded but doesn't know if she should be worried. She was going to add fertilizer stakes, but was told if the tree is in stress that is the worst thing to do. We aren't really sure if the tree is stressed (but mom sure is!). The leaves look pretty good, a few have holes (maybe from bugs eating them?). Overall it seems to be OK except just not as full. We should add that our neighborhood has had many trees in their second and third returning seasons all of a sudden fail and some have died. Any expert help would be wonderful. Mom is adding a pic of the tree recently and will place the pic from last year below it. Any advice on what to do would be appreciated.

Thanks ever so much!

Love and purple kisses,
Angel Tara

My memorial tree (year 2)

It's still pretty early in the season, but all signs show that my memorial tree has in fact survived it's second Minnesota winter. This was a brutal winter, too. Mom has been checking the buds frequently and says they look like they are starting to get ready to bloom. We're weeks away from it actually opening, but at least it looks to be growing. I'm totally excited ! I love my Royal Red Maple because it lets mom know I am still with her.

Here are a few famous quotes about trees (to go along with my good news)

Never has the life of a tree been so profound as one planted in loving memory of a friend.
~Angel Tara

There is always music amongst the trees in the garden, but our hearts must be very quiet to hear it.
~ Minnie Aumonier

Trees are Earth's endless effort to speak to the listening heaven.
~Rabindranath Tagore

Trees are the first when the day's begun
to touch the beam of morning sun.
They are the last to hold the light
when evening changes into night.
~unknown author

The scarlet of the maples can shake me like a cry, Of bugles going by.
~William Bliss Carman

Solitary trees, if they grow at all, grow strong.

Lola was rescued!!

A huge thanks to the Society of Humane Friends that rescued Lola from Clarke County Animal Control in GA. This makes me so happy just knowing she will get another chance in life. Mom thought she resembled me so much. Thank you to all the rescue organizations that selflessly take in unwanted animals until they find them the perfect families. Know that you do make a difference for every single life that you pull from the shelters.

Rescue Rainbow Bridge

In memory of Dolly Uhlig, a wonderful. compassionate, and caring lady dedicated to Newfoundland Rescue. She passed away on Wednesday and the world is short one amazing woman. Here is a copy of Rescue Rainbow Bridge sent with love for you Dolly. My mom was blessed to have known you personally.

Rescue Rainbow Bridge

Unlike most days at RainBow Bridge, this day dawned cold and gray, damp as a swamp and as dismal as could be imagined. All the recent arrivals were confused and concerned. They had no idea what to think for they had never experienced a day like this before. But the animals who had spent some time waiting for their beloved people knew exactly what was happening and began to gather at the pathway leading to the Bridge to watch. They knew this was something special.

It wasn't too long before an elderly animal came into view, head hung heavy and low with tail dragging along the ground. The other animals on the pathway...the ones who had been at RainBow Bridge for a while...knew the story of this sad creature immediately. They had seen it happen far too many times.

Although it was obvious the animal's heart was leaden and he was totally overcome with emotional pain and hurt, there was no sign of injury or any illness. Unlike the pets waiting at the Bridge, this dog had not been restored to his prime. He was full of neither health nor vigor. He approached slowly and painfully, watching all the pets who were by now watching him. He knew he was out of place here. This was no resting place for him. He felt instinctively that the sooner he could cross over, the happier he would be. But alas, as he came closer to the Bridge, his way was barred by the appearance of an Angel who spoke softly to the old dog and apologized sorrowfully, telling him that he would not be able to pass. Only those animals who were with their special people could pass over the RainBow Bridge. And he had no special beloved people...not here at the Bridge nor on Earth below.

With no place else to turn, the poor elderly dog looked toward the fields before the Bridge. There, in a separate area nearby, he spotted a group of other sad-eyed animals like himself...elderly and infirm. Unlike the pets waiting for their special people, these animals weren't playing, but simply lying on the green grass, forlornly and miserably staring out at the pathway leading to the Bridge. The recent arrival knew he had no choice but to join them. And so, he took his place among them, just watching the pathway and waiting.

One of the newest arrivals at the Bridge, who was waiting for his special people, could not understand what he had just witnessed and asked one of the pets who had been there for some time to explain it to him.

"That poor dog was a rescue, sent to the pound when his owner grew tired of him. The way you see him now, with graying fur and sad, cloudy eyes, was exactly the way he was when he was put into the kennels. He never, ever made it out and passed on only with the love and comfort that the kennel workers could give him as he left his miserable and unloved existence on Earth for good. Because he had no family or special person to give his love, he has nobody to escort him across the Bridge."

The first animal thought about this for a minute and then asked, "So what will happen now?"

As he was about to receive his answer, the clouds suddenly parted and the all-invasive gloom lifted. Coming toward the Bridge could be seen a single figure...a person who, on Earth, had seemed quite ordinary...a person who, just like the elderly dog, had just left Earth forever. This figure turned toward a group of the sad animals and extended outstretched palms. The sweetest sounds they had ever heard echoed gently above them and all were bathed in a pure and golden light. Instantly, each was young and healthy again, just as they had been in the prime of life.

From within the gathering of pets waiting for their special people, a group of animals emerged and moved toward the pathway. As they came close to the passing figure, each bowed low and each received a tender pat on the head or a scratch behind the ears. Their eyes grew even brighter as the figure softly murmured each name. Then, the newly-restored pets fell into line behind the figure and quietly followed this person to the Bridge, where they all crossed together.

The recent arrival who had been watching, was amazed. "What happened?"

"That was a rescuer," came the answer. "That person spent a lifetime trying to help pets of all kinds. The ones you saw bowing in respect were those who found new homes because of such unselfish work. They will cross when their families arrive. Those you saw restored were ones who never found homes. When a rescuer arrives, they are permitted to perform one, final act of rescue. They are allowed to escort those poor pets that couldn't place on Earth across the Rainbow Bridge. You see, all animals are special to them...just as they are special to all animals."

"I think I like rescuers," said the recent arrival.

"So does God," was the reply.
