Mom told me this morning - my best friend Zoe and her Mom, Tawny are coming to visit for a few days!!! WOOF!!! We'll all get to sleep together in Mom and Dad's bed - hope there's enough room. It's been a great day. We walked to Grandma's this morning and had a visit. I got a great brunch when we got home - Mom's chicken stew - YUM! My belly was full. I had a little nap, we played and then I got to go outside, all by myself, and have a chew on the big bone Mom bought me. She said I could have it until Zoe gets here - then she'll put in back in the freezer. She got me a big leg bone but I hope the next one has a little more meat stuff on it! I'm a happy puppy!!
Mom said she was sorry she had to stop writing for me last night - I can't wait until that American Idol is over. A bunch of humans making lots of noise - I don't see what's so exciting about that.
We only have a minute to write today....I have so much to tell you about last month and it's already time to tell you about this month.
I wish dogs could purr like cats - I feel like purring!

It's May already.....we missed my April adventures

We've been busy in the garden lately and my typist hasn't had a lot of time to keep my diary up to date. Mom said she'd type for me until American Idol comes on.....I'll try to remember what's been happening in my life.
Mom and I did the walk to raise money for MS with my Mom, Isy and some others - Gypsy, my part wolf friend came too. There was lots of dogs and I made some friends! Sometimes I meet nice dogs but I never get to see them again. I raised $100 for MS - Mom didn't do as good as me.
My friend Toby is over - Mom's dog sitting him and he's making funny noises and not letting Mom type. Mom let him out - I went too and all he wanted to do was go to the gate and see if his Mom was coming. He piddled on Mom's cement frog - I don't piddle on Mom's stuff, she thinks boys should piddle like girls.
I got left at home alone today - every Wednesday I get left. Grandma has to go places I'm not allowed and Mom says I can't stay in the car by myself so I have to stay home. Grandma came to my house when they finished doing the human only stuff - she even stayed for dinner. Mom made me a fresh batch of chicken stew - YUM! I like the chicken better than the other stuff she made!
We didn't go for a walk today. We usually go for a walk. Sometimes we walk to Grandma's and visit her and her friends. I have lots of human friends at Grandma's. The worst part of going walking is my harness - she always makes me wear it and I don't like it. Putting it on pulls my ears and my face - Mom says she'll get another harness when she finds one we both like.....I don't have to wear a collar - it would make my hairy all knotty. Mom says I'm really hard to groom. She has to brush me every single day and I still get a few mats. I got a nasty one when I had to wear my harness AND my raincoat - OUCH!
Oh No - American Idol is starting.....

A Ride on Grandma's Scooter!!!

I got to ride with Grandma on her scooter yesterday!!!! It was fun! Grandma rode her scooter over to our house to visit ME. Mom was gardening most of the day but when Grandma came we went for a walk. I walked for awhile and then rode with Grandma - that made her smile! She stayed for dinner and it was a little cold when it was time for Grandma to go home so Mom drove her scooter home with me in my little pack and Dad drove Grandma - it was fun. Wind in my hair and a good view of everything! Hope I get more rides.
It's been a good week for me. Mom took me to Sooke with my Isy again and I met 2 big dogs - they were part WOLF and they liked me. I liked them and their human, Jim too. They have a fun yard - BIG with lots of trees to sniff around. Mom was a little concerned at first - she left me in the car but when she saw how nice the big girls were she decided it was OK for me to meet them.
Another day I went and visited the folks at Grandma's 'home' - they think I'm cute and like me to visit them. I like them OK but I LOVE my Grandma!
Mom's been cooking my food since the dog food scare - I like it! She hopes it's healthy for me. She thought I was too skinny cause I just didn't like the dog food much so I wouldn't eat it.....she kept buying different kinds but nothing in a can is good enough for me!
Mom says I'm a thief - she's going to train me to steal something worthwhile - like wallets.....I don't know what wallets are?? I do know Grandma stills keeps soft tissues up her sleeve and I get them before she knows what I'm doing.....makes my tail wag!

My friend Zoe

I spent all day Sunday with Zoe. Mom and Dad drove me out to Sooke after lunch and we stayed until late at night - it was FUN! Zoe is Shih-Tzu. My Mom helped deliver her last June - she's just 3 weeks older than me but quite a bit heavier. Her Mom, Tawny, lives there too but I don't get along with Tawny too well - she always tries to boss me around and yesterday she jumped on my back. I curl my lips and snarl at her and Mom tells me to stop and be nice. I'm nice when Tawny stops trying to boss me.....Zoe is sweet. She plays with me and her Mom and she plays really nice - I can get a little rough. I don't mean to.......Anyway, other than getting 'the look' for leaving a present for the humans in the dining room, we had a great day. I slept all the way home - on a pillow on Mom's lap. Zoe is in the last picture on my page - she's cute!
I wasn't feeling too well today - Mom says I'm in heat. I don't feel hot but I don't feel quite right. Mom took me for a walk and that was good. We played tonight - I love to play with my big bell! I played with mr humpy too - now I'm tired. I'm going to curl up on the couch.

I'm a Brat!

The day started out OK - Mom took me outside and I pretended I didn't know what she wanted me to do - she got cold and I finally got breakfast - a little inhouse play and then outside for a quick potty and then they left home all alone. I watched TV for awhile, surveyed the neighborhood from my 'special' seat and then got a little sleepy so I had a nap in my 'cave'. I like my cave! Finally they came home - they said they weren't gone long - maybe 1 1/2 hours - it sure seemed like a long time to ME. Mom didn't stay home - she hardly even said hi, but Dad and I spent some quality alone time together. When Mom finally got home she had Grandma with her - YIPPEE! I discovered Grandma always keeps something up her sleeve and I like to get it and rip it to shreds!!! It's as good to rip up as the stuff that comes on rolls they keep in the potty room. I got it today - I pulled it out of Grandma's sleeve and ran before she could stop me. She started calling me a brat after that - it's a good thing....right?

A drive to Sooke - Raising money for MS

We went to Sooke yesterday. That's where my friends Zoe and her Mom Tawny live but we didn't get to visit them. We picked up Grandma and drove to Heather's work in Sooke. I'm raising money for MS and Mom was dropping off pledge forms for Heather to help us raise money for MS. My friend Isy has MS. I'm named after Isy - her real name is Isabella - she got the Isy part and I got Bella. I'm excited cause I get to walk with Isy and her team (me and Mom are on the team!) and lots of other humans will be there too. I've raised just about $100 so far - Mom hasn't raised as much as me! I think it's cause I'm cute.....I got left in the car while they went in to a place - they came out smelling like FOOD.....don't know why I couldn't go to but Mom did leave me a plate of yogurt and a little fish and kibble in the car...I didn't feel like eating cause I was alone. Grandma let me sit on her lap on the way home and I snuck up and got a really good position behind her head. I could see really well, I was warm and comfy and Grandma said it was OK for me to lie there. I love my Grandma! When we got home Mom took me for a walk. We went to the pet store and bought Toby a bully stick - he's never had a bully stick. We walked to his house and gave it to him. We had a little play and then home to wait for Dad. It was a good day!
It's raining today.....I don't like the rain. Poor Dad has to go to the doctor today and get his toe fixed. Mom says I'll have to be good and not jump by Dad's foot when he gets home. He'll be hurting - I'll try and lick it better for him.
Got things to chew - WOOF!

Bully Bully

I love my bully stick. Mom says she'll buy them for me anytime I want. They're expensive but I'm worth it (and it takes me a long time to finish one). I like to chew on it for awhile, then I play with my big bell - it makes a lot of noise. I love to play with Mr Humpy and piggie too. I spend lots of time sitting on my window seat people watching - that's fun.
I went for a walk this morning with Mom. We stopped and had a visit with Grandma and her friends. They all think I'm TOO CUTE! I get lots of loves from them and I make them smile. I left my 'mark' all the way to Grandma's house - this is MY territory.
It's nice out today - Mom says we're going to play in the yard this afternoon. FUN I can bark at the people going by - sometimes they come and say HI to me. Mom says I have to stop barking so much - she's sorry I found my voice. I'm happy I found my voice - I like to make noise sometimes......She's trying to teach me to be more quite but I have a mind of my own and I like to use it. I'll get her trained one day and she'll understand I'm really the boss here.

Where does the water go?????

We have a little room with a big water bowl Mom won't let me drink from.....if I have an accident she puts in IN THERE. No wonder she doesn't want me to drink from IT. I like to watch the water go round and round and then it disappears. Where does it go??? I tried to jump in to see where it went but Mommy caught me in mid air - she said I must not jump in that water but I really want to know where it goes...
I played with Toby yesterday. We had fun in his yard! He's getting a little fat - his Mom is feeding him too much people food - that's what my Mom says. I'm not fat - I'm lean and mean! I can run circles around Toby even though he's a big guy. I LOVE to run! Mom chases me but can't catch me...I'm just too fast!

I've been Love Bugged and I have my OWN window seat!

WOOF - What a nice surprise this morning - I've been love bugged by a nonny moose! That makes me happy - THANKS!
Well - It's another cold day here - I haven't been for a walk in a few days - Mom's a bit of a wussy. We may walk to Granpma's house today - we'll see if it starts to rain after lunch. I hope it doesn'e rain - Mom might get my rain coat out.......I don't like my raincoat!!!!!
I had a good morning - played with Mom lots! I've got my own 'window seat' now especially for ME! I've got a cave and my toys under the seat so I can have a nap in my cave or sit on top and watch the people going by - FUN but Mom says I have to stop barking.....she also wants me to learn to put my toys away......she's so funny! I like to do things MY WAY.....
Mom took me out in my new pack. I like it - I get to snuggle up to Mom and don't have to look at feet all the time. It's easier for humans to 'gush' over me now.....I'm so CUTE! It's a comforable way to travel when I don't feel like walking! Grandma says I've got too much STUFF.....can any doggie have too much stuff????? Mom and Dan said the window seat was the LAST THING I'm getting.......yeah sure. I know how to work them! They're becoming very well trained.

just a dog.....

From time to time, people tell me, "Lighten up; it's just a dog,"

or, "That's a lot of money for just a dog." They don't understand the distance traveled, the time spent, or the costs involved for "just a dog."

Some of my proudest moments have come about with "just a dog."

Many hours have passed and my only company was "just a dog," but I did not once feel slighted.

Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by "just a dog," and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of "just a dog"gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.

If you, too, think it's "just a dog," then you will probably understand phrases like "just a friend," "just a sunrise" or "just a promise."

"Just a dog" brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy.

"Just a dog" brings out the compassion and patience that make me a better person.

Because of "just a dog" I will rise early, take long walks and look longingly to the future.

So for me and folks like me, it's not "just a dog" but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment.

"Just a dog" brings out what's good in me and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the worries of the day.

I hope that someday they can understand that it's not "just a dog" but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being "just a human."

So the next time you hear the phrase "just a dog," just smile, because they "just don't understand."
