My wonderful and sweet big boy Merlin

I'm a bit late today Merlin, I just felt so tired my boy. Anyway I am here now.

I had to take Molly to the vet last night, she had very bad diarrhoea. Poor little mite was very poorly and feeling very sorry for herself. I didn't have to say a word to the receptionist in the vets as to what was wrong with her, she let go right there and then. The vet came out and said, "I suppose that's the problem with her?" Anyway she was treated and given some tablets and now she appears fine, or rather a lot better then she was. When little Molly was weighed she had gained over 1 Kg over 11 days, I thought she was getting heavier when I picked her up and ran to the house with her when that cobra reared up. The vet reckons she is going to be over 50 kgs when she is fully grown, about the same size as you my boy

I remember when you had tick bite fever my boy, I was so worried about you, you had lost so much weight, I was so scared. Anyway after treatment you pulled through, then I had to build you back up again my boy, your mum spoiled you with your favourite, chicken and rice. It was so good to watch you eat again Merlin.

Anyway my lovely boy, time to go play and have some fun.

Good morning Merlin my sweet and wonderful big boy.

Hows my bestest boy today? Been having a lot of fun I bet.

The past few days have been so windy, it's horrible but at least its not so hot.

I still haven't seen the cobra that I saw a few days ago, I'm waiting for it to pop its head up again. I just don't like snakes, I know people say they do a good job keeping rodents down and such, I just wish they would do it some place else and not on my property.

I can hear Spud barking outside, his bark is nothing like yours, yours was a proper bark, deep and commanding and people took notice, Spuds sounds like his voice is breaking or someone strangling him.

Remember the times you took yourself to bed and when I tried to get some sleep you were sprawled all over the bed pretending to be asleep! I had the devils own job getting you to move so I could get in MY bed. Oh boy, you certainly loved your comfort.

Molly is fast asleep at my feet right now and like you, she is never far from me, if she is asleep and when she wakes up and can't see me, she comes and finds me.

Spud and Molly are really playing now, but he does get a bit heavy handed with her at times and hurts her, but she comes back at him and won't let him get away with it. She has got the courage and tenacity you have my boy.

Hello my lovely boy.

Today is not very nice at all, it's sunny but very very windy. I hope the wind drops, otherwise little Molly will take off!

I know I have said this many times Merlin and you are probably bored hearing it by now, but Molly is so much like you, it really is uncanny. She is so sweet like you, she follows me everywhere like you did, even to the bathroom, she craves attention like you and she like sleeping on my bed like you.

Remember when you were a pup about 6 months old, how you leapt across the table beside my armchair, scattering everything on it then landing on my lap? Molly as done that twice to me now, except she leaps from the front of the chair, not the side. She did it last night and knocked the breath out of me, she's getting very heavy now! If she turns out to be half as good as you Merlin, I will be very happy with her. But rest assured my boy, she will never replace you in my heart, you are there forever and a day.

Good morning my sweet wonderful big boy.

Hello my lovely boy.

Its not a very nice day today, it's blowing a bit of a gale, it takes our breath away.

I am very cautious now when Spud and Molly play after the cobra incident. Spud runs hell for leather for the fence right past the wood pile where I suspect the cobra is and Molly follows him. I can't keep her on a lead all the time, she has got to run and play.

Melissa is getting a bit testy now she is so near giving birth. I wish you were here Merlin, I know you would have looked after the baby and protected it. You were so big you could have given the baby pony rides. I still remember how good you were with Lady Zara's puppies, you were so gentle and patient with them and Lady Zara seemed to enjoy it when you came to visit. I still laugh at the time when the puppies were running after you, you came running past the wood pile and seconds later five little barking puppies followed you. It was so sweet Merlin

Good morning my sweet wonderful big boy.

Hello my lovely big boy, I take it you are still having fun.

Molly scared me yesterday, Spud ran hell for leather towards the wood pile (that wood pile I tried to keep you from going near) with Molly following hot on his heels, when a 2 metre Cobra rose out of the grass. I shouted at Spud to keep away but he was on a mission and Molly just ignored me. I ran the fastest I have ever ran and scooped little Molly up and carried her indoors. Spud must have known it was dangerous and kept away, but I couldn't trust Molly knowing it was dangerous. After losing you my boy, I don't want to lose Molly to a snake bite. Afterwards I felt sick, literally.

We are going to have to contact the local conservation group and ask what can be done to get rid of the snake(s?). With Melissa's baby coming next month we cant take any chances. I'm sorry but if it means the lives of Melissa's baby or Molly, Spud, Bella and Hobo or the snake, the snake is going to lose.

I'm sorry this isn't a happier entry Merlin, but I am sure you want to know what is going on.

Hello my lovely boy.

Do you remember the time when I was sat in my armchair when I heard you gave a "Help me pleassseeeeeeeeeeeeee Dad" bark from the scullery? I wondered what was wrong, I got up to find Bella guarding the big black rubbish bag and every time you tried to get past her she would snap at you. The look on your face was a pitiful "Please tell her to stop snapping at me Daddy." I scolded Bella and told you to come in with me, as you walked past Bella, she went to snap at you, so I scolded her again. You looked at me that almost said, "Phew thanks Daddy." From the expressions on your face I always knew what you were thinking, you were an open book my boy.

The times I was sat in my armchair and you wanted a fuss made of you, you would keep on giving me your massive paw to shake, if I ignored you, you would sit in front of the TV, and the whole family were saying, "Come on Merlin, will you move?" nope you wouldn't move, so I had to pay attention to you.

Time to go play my lovely boy.

Good morning my sweet wonderful big boy.

Hows my bestest boy today?

Today is the perfect day for you to run around with Spud, overcast and very cool. You could both run and play to your hearts content without worrying about getting too hot in the sun.

I've found a photograph of you sitting on the couch when you were I suppose about 6 months old. You had one huge ear up and one down and you had a soppy look on your face, I'm sorry Merlin, but I couldn't help laughing. You REALLY always knew how to make me laugh my boy, I treasure those moments so much Merlin.

One regret I have my boy, no one ever took a photograph of you and I sitting on the front porch, either no one was home to take the photograph or you wouldn't sit still long enough. It was always "Merlin wanna play, Merlin wanna play!" I do have some beautiful photographs of you my boy, one day when it's not so raw I will frame them.

I see you have made featured diary again, you do make me so proud my boy. You have touched so many wonderful families hearts and through you we have both made so many wonderful friends.

I've got photographs of you annoying Aunty Bella when you were little, she was so very patient with you, she knew you were a puppy and she understood puppies can be annoying. You annoyed Mike and Melissa with your biting feet, and when they told you off you sat down, looked up at them with your angelic face as if to say, "What? I'm not doing anything." I couldn't help but burst out laughing. You brought me so much joy and laughter my boy, you were always up to something.

I remember one day when your mum was planting flowers, when she planted one and went to plant another, you came along and pulled it out, when your mum turned around you had a lot of plants in your mouth. Boy was she mad at you, when she came in the house and told me, I couldn't help but start laughing. She then got mad at me, "ITS NOT FUNNY!!" I had to tell you off, but I did it with a smile on my face. Oh boy, what a dog you are.
