This is my story entitled "How I Became the Great Squirt".
My story starts humbly enough. I had been born at the Lakeland Animal Shelter in Elkhorn in 2005 and adopted to an older couple who didn't realize what a big, energetic guy I would become. I was really cute as a puppy, but I was too much puppy for a couple like them and their older Yorkshire terrier and older cat. They returned me in August 2006 back to the shelter until I was lucky enough to meet my new buddy.
I came to my furever home, Butternut Acres, in September 2006 to my very own farm. I got to go to school at PetSmart. I even graduated the advanced obedience class.
Now I get to snooze on the couch, lounge in the hammock, and enjoy the new deck my buddy built for me this spring. I can hang outside in the lawn and watch the horses graze in the paddock. Play in the water of the creek and even bark as the freight train goes past several times a day. I also get to sleep in a big bed on a sheepskin. Life is good.

It's that time of year again. The snow is gone. Finally. The plants are coming up. And I get put out on the chain in the yard for a little fun in the sun. All new smells are available. New wild animals to growl at. Groundhogs. Turkeys. Coyotes. Now I don't have to worry about freezing my paws out in the snow and cutting my pads on the ice. I can wander about without being cold. I can kick up some dirt when I'm done with my constitutionals. The reenacting season is almost here. Everyone is getting ready. I've been putting my affairs in order: washing my blankets, tidying up my crate. Soon we'll be off around the country for events. That means long trips or weekends at the "spa" also known as the kennel to visit old friends that I've not seen for the winter. It'll be good to get back in the traveling circuit and check up with my buddies.

Snow! Yes, snow. It's still snowing and I'm up to my haunches in it. Whoo hoo! I'm probably the only one happy about all the snow here at Fort Butternut. I even got to go out and play in it today. Dad took a break from studying for graduate school and we went out to run in it. I got to race around and my beard got full of snow. By the time we came in I was cold and ready for a good nap on my comforter on the living room floor. Dad even dried me off with my towel before my nap so I wasn't cold and wet.
It's winter quarters here now and there isn't much more for me to do than get up and bark every once in a while so everyone knows I'm doing my job to project the homestead. I make the rounds and check to make sure everything is okay. I visit my friends, the rats. Then I go and lay down for another nap. Napping is hard work.
