Not to Worry!

Tomorrow I will be going to see Dr. Bill to have a small tumor removed from my eyelid and to also have some xrays taken of my back as it has been hurting a little lately anytime I exercise much. I keep telling Mom not to worry, but anytime any of us have to have an anesthetic, Mom can't help but worry. I do have a special guardian Angel watching over me, and for that, we are all thankful.
We will be heading up to our cabin on Thursday to watch the Winter Olympics for a couple of weeks. There is lots of snow there right now and it should be a fun trip. We will bark again at you soon!

We're back!!

We are finally back from our cabin and boy what a fun summer it has been!! We did lots of hiking and found some really great new lakes for me to swim in. My brother Sunny couldn't go on the long hikes with us due to his age, but we took him down to Donner Lake almost every day so he could go for a short walk and play in the lake. His eyesight is getting kind of bad, so we just had to be sure he didn't swim in the wrong direction!! We also got to hike with Kim from Nor Cal Aussie Rescue many times and we got to spend lots of time with our favorite rescue dog Buddy. We all rode something called a "gondola" in a ski area called Squaw Valley. We went to the top of the mountain and hiked all over--I have a picture of that posted with Lake Tahoe in the background. Our kitties, Smudge and Sissel, were sure glad to see us when we got home. And I was even kind of happy to see them. We sure hope all of you had a great summer like we did.

We will be leaving for our cabin in the mountains today and will be gone there for several weeks. That means likes of hikes and swimming in the lake--and most important, getting to spend lots of time with Mom. We might even foster a 7 years old Aussie named Buddy who is currently up for adoption at Nor Cal Aussie Rescue. Mom sure likes him so I will have to keep reminding her that we are just "fostering". I will not allow her to " flunk fostering", even though I really like Buddy. So we hope all of you have a great Summer!! Bark to you later . . .

Sometimes my Mom can be just plain clueless. I went to my groomer (clue #1) Santee LOPEZ for a bath on Saturday. Santee always ties some ribbons on my collar after my bath. The ribbon colors will often match whatever holiday we might be celebrating. When she picked me up on Saturday, Santee had put red, green, and white ribbons on us. On the way out he said (clue #2), "HAPPY CINCO DE MAYO". As Mom looked at my ribbon she thought "Oh my, Santee must not be able to afford new ribbon and is using left over Christmas ribbon". But that was OK, Santee always does such a great job and makes me look so handsome. Well, it didn't hit her until today when she was doing our Cinco De Mayo pages that the colors of the ribbons were the colors of (clue 3#) the MEXICAN flag!!!! Yes, CLUELESS Mom finally got it! Wishing all our friends a Happy Cinco De Mayo!!

Today is my 9th birthday and it's a great day!! Mom got me up early this morning and we drove out to Garland Park in Carmel Valley and we took a 2 hour hike that went all the way to the top of the highest peak there. It was a little bit cold and Mom said I was acting like a frisky little puppy. Mom can't believe that I am already 9 years old. It seems like it was just the other day she was bringing home this 8 week old furball. I know I am a little hyper and bit of a goofball somedays, but I also know that Mom loves me just the way I am and I know she always will . . .

My Kitty Sister

For the last 10 days, everything here has been focused on my kitty sister Sissel. She has been really sick, but she is doing much better now. Sunny and I have both been really good and let mom give all her attention to Sissel. This morning, unknown to mom, we gave Sissel a bit of a bath (at least that's what mom thinks!). We actually discovered that from mom force feeding her, she tasted pretty good from the cat food that was stuck in the fur around her head. So when mom found Sunny and I "washing her head" this morning and praised us for " kissing" her and trying to make her well, we just looked at each other and deceided to take the praise given to us!! We sure are glad she is feeling better so maybe we can get some attention now.

It's Autumn, the time of the year that Mom gets her suitcase out and packs it for a trip to Maine. Yes Dogsters, we admit it, our Mom is a known "LEAFER". That is what the people of the New England states call all the tourists that come to visit them during the fall to watch all the leafs on their trees turn beautiful colors. Oh yes, then there's the LOBSTER!! While we are here nibbling on our "dog food", she is out fine dining on Lobster!! Maybe just this one time, she'll bring us back some . . . Mom leaves in the morning and will be back Oct. 8th. We will bark to you then.

Mom just got some exciting news from our local SPCA! Every year they do a fundraiser and have a contest where you can submit photos to try to win one of 12 pages in their calendar. Well, out of over 1500 photos submitted, they picked my photo and I will be "Mr. December"!!! Mom took the picture last winter at our cabin, you can see it above. Most important, our local SPCA was able to raise some money to help all the homeless pets in its shelter. . .

We had so much fun and wanted to share some of our photos with our friends. We still wonder why she keeps telling us that we are lucky we weren't members of the "Donner Party", which we just don't understand at all, because we love parties!!

Recently Dogster featured the group 2 D0gs, 2 Thousand Miles. After exploring the group, we decided to join. It is a wonderful group that raises money for Cancer research for dogs. My brother Dekker passed away from cancer, and he was our inspiration to join. Much to my surprise, I was the 200th member--which means I won a copy of the book "The Healing Art of Pet Parenthood". Buttons will be sending Mom the book soon and we really look forward to reading it. Thanks Buttons! I am very proud to be the 200th member of this great group . . . my tail is wagging 2 hundred miles an hour!

We just want you to know that we really do appreciate each and everyone of you for being such wonderful friends to all of us . . .

Sea Lions have friends too!

While we were on our daily walk at the beach this morning, we noticed a young California Sea Lion in the water, fairly close to the beach. It is not unusual for one to follow us along the shore line and watch us--it's almost like they want to play with us! Today was diffierent--this little guy actually came out of the water right by us and pulled himself up on the beach! My first instinct was to play with him, but then we noticed that he was quite young and probably not feeling really well. Mom made a call to the Marine Mammal Center. This is a great organization in California that will rescue marine animals much like our local SPCA will rescue dogs, cats, and other wildlife. They came and got him and took him to check him out. We have not heard how he is doing yet, but we will be checking with them. We sure hope the little guy is OK and can be returned to the ocean soon.

Summer of 69??? Now why would Mom pick that song for my Dogster page ? Surely hardly anyone is still around that can actually remember the summer of 69? Hey, Mom just dug out her high scool yearbook. What's that all about?? I better check this out?!? You better put your glasses on Mom so you can read that thing. Mom, can you hear me Mom??? And she says my dog brother Sunny is hard of hearing! Did you already forget that you promised us you would take us for a walk this afternoon, as soon as your arthritis medicine kicked in?? Yes, you would have to be really old to remember the summer of 69 . . .

When mom adopted me almost 8 years ago, she had to come up with a name for me for my AKC registration papers. The man she adopted me from was named Wesely. Of course plain Wesley was not enough of a name for a "papered" doggie! At the time, one of her favorite movie stars was an actor named Wesley Snipes---so she thought it would be fun to offically name me "Wesley Snips" as I was always playfully "snipping" at her hands as a puppy. Well, my Dogster page is now quite appropiate for my namesake---he just got sentenced to 3 years in jail for tax evasion!!!! Also, my birthday was April 15th---income tax day!!! Too many coincidences!?!?

Callie Jean (a kitty) at the group Pawsome Pages wanted input on what to name the new colors she had created for our menu bars on our pages. There was one color that was the perfect color of BONE!!!! So of course I suggested to name that color BONE! But then along came a kitty that suggested the color be CREAM---of course a kitty would prefer CREAM over a BONE!! So as usual, the kitties rule again, they named the color CREAM !!!

I just got home from having a check up with my veterinarian Dr. Bill. Mom says she usually dreads it when I have an appointment with Dr. Bill because I can be such a bad boy when I am there, mostly because I won't stand still for my exam and I keep trying to leave. Well, I want you to know that I was very good today. I even kind of surprised myself! I stood perfectly still and gave all the girls in the office big kisses. I even let Dr. Bill take my temperature! Whew, I 'm feeling kinda of extra tired, so better get off this computer and go take a nap. By the way, what's a tranquilizer?

My friend Wilson had to go to the Bridge a few weeks ago, and it sure made me sad, I miss him so much. His family had to make a very hard decision, but it was the last, most important and kindest thing that they could do for him.
But today, my heart was filled with happiness when I received a package in the mail from Wilson's family. It seems that Wilson had done some early Christmas shopping and they found a package addressed to me in his room. I was quite surprised, but then again, Wilson had always been a most caring friend. He will be forever loved by me, forever my friend . . .
This Christmas I am most thankful for all the wonderful friends I have made here on Dogster. We wish them and their families a very Merry Christmas . . .

I don't know why Mom put me in this silly hat and shirt---but she says it is quite appropiate considering all that has happened lately.I have a neighbor who thinks I am a bad boy!!! Yes, this dogless person thinks that I just bark too much!! When 2 cop cars pulled up to the house last Sunday and two policemen came banging at the door---mom didn't know what to think??!! Then they said, "Do you have a dog named Wesley that lives here??" Mom answered "yes"---then the cops said they may have to give me a citation for barking too much!!! Well, 3 of our other neighbors rushed over to see what was wrong??!!! And boy did they tell those cops a thing or two. They told them that I was a very good dog and only barked a few times a day. Mom then said, "Well, I guess that means Wesley won't have to go to jail--that's 3 neighbors against 1". That means Wesley is a good dog after all!! Of course, I already knew that! Happy Halloween to all my Dogster friends!!

While Mom was working at the Monterey County SPCA, Clint actually premiered one of his movies with all proceeds going to our SPCA. Our Salute to Animal Shelter Workers

January 13th 2007 5:05 pm

My human mom is an oncology nurse, and so often people say to her, "that must be one of the most difficult and sadest jobs in the world". She often replys by saying, "Yes, it can be very difficult at times. But the most difficult and sadest jobs she has held, is that of an animal shelter worker." The cancer journey is most often made with the support of loved ones, with dignity, and with as much comfort as is possible. On the other hand, the dogs and cats a shelter worker often encounters, have never known love, dignity, and the comforts that all animals deserve. It is often the shelter worker who is the first one to provide these homeless/unwanted pets with these much deserved comforts. And it is often the shelter worker that holds these precious pets in their arms when they take their last breath---for they are the victims of the pet overpopulation problem. So called "no kill shelters" are a great concept. But just remember, somewhere down the road from that "no kill" shelter, is another shelter, often a city or county shelter, that has to deal with the reality that there are just not enough homes for all the surplus dog and cats in this country. Sadly, not every dog and cat, through no fault of their own, are adoptable. The number one answer to this problem: SPAY and NEUTERING. Please, encourage spay and neutering , and of course, adoption, to all that you can. The wish of most shelter workers, is that someday, they will be without a job---because there are no more unwanted dogs and cats in this country. Until that day, we salute these people for putting their hearts into this most difficult job.

What A Birthday!!

I just had the greatest birthday ever!! It started out in the morning with an hour walk on my favorite beach---chasing tennis balls and smelling all the good things that are found on a beach. Then we went to the pet store and I got to pick out 2 new toys!! (see my primary photo with one of my new toys---what does mom mean when she says something about my elevator not going all the way to the top???!!) When we got home, there were lots of Birthday messages for me on Dogster. Thank you Bella, Guiness, Butch, Smiley, Cosmo, Quincy, Merc, Sadie Boo, Dallas, Samantha, Gus, LUCY, Nellie, Ted, Poncho, Tessa Lee, Boomer, George, Ozzy, CoCo, Sassy Girl, and everyone else (espeically my friends at the Squeaky and Fuzzy Dogster Group) for thinking of me!! My mom just kept saying to me all day: "Please Wesley, have many, many more birthdays!" And I'm thinking, "Of course I will!". Life for this Wigglebutt is just too good not too . . .
