Holiday Time

It's been a really busy holiday season. It started with Dad taking some new photos and mom spending lots of time putting together Christmas cards. Lots of people coming by the house. Lots of mail for me, Finn, Winston, Molly & Annie. Mom leaving a lot and coming into the house with lots of bags, some of which she's hiding in our drawer....hmmm...if only I could reach it. There are wreaths on the front doors. Mom says we're not putting up the big tree this year because of the boys. Winston has been here about 2 months, and he and Finnegan run & wrestle all of the time. They grab toys and tug at them. Mom is afraid that while she's at work they'd tug at the tree or think it's that new fangled indoor plumbing. She hoping next year they're calmer. I don't know why Santa Paws would leave them anything since they're such Terrieristas! But mom says it's cuz they're boys!!! She grew up with all boys so she knows what I'm going through. Molly & I play a little then go about our beauty sleep & walks without them! Anyway, back to Christmas - mom says she's hoping that no one gets up onto the table and gets the table top tree. When we were getting our photos taken, we used the dining room table. Finnegan hopped up right onto the table to get Winston's treats - OY VEY!!! BOYS!!!

It certainly is a lively time of year around here. Our Annie Angel stops in occasionally just to give mom a little love. Christmas was always a special time for the 3 of us.

Our Schnauzers Rule group is just hopping these days. Lots of new members. New look to our page with all of the holiday photos. We have a Christmas logo that Charley & Fritz's dad designed! A Dear Santa Paws letter contest with some cool prizes that Maddie's mom makes. Samson is trying to keep us updated with all of the new in the Schnauzer Scoop which we need cuz we're so yappy! And we're trying to put together a recap of the year to share in the new year. Maddie's mom is making membership cards. WOW - so busy!!!

We want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanza, or just some peace and quiet!!!

The loss of a great friend

Yesterday we lost our dear friend Milly, our leader of the Schnauzers Rule group. It is so sad when you think of the pain her family must feel. I know it so well from losing Annie, Lexi and Boomer over the last couple of years. One moment life is so palpable, the next so ethereal. Milly brought us a wonderful place where she provided a gentle supportive gathering for all the schnauzers to explore and to share with each other. We became a kindred spirit in the area of schnauzers - an intense, smart, gregarious, mischievous, joyful little dog - just like the group. Milly always had a kind word, greeted every new member, sent out presents on special days. Even when she was ill, she & her mom managed to check in and remain positive. The group is only 1 year old, but it has drawn over 800 schnauzers to it. So many feel it's one of the best groups on Dogster - we happen to think so.

Dogster and Schnauzers Rule has brought a sense of community into our lives. We experience births and deaths, joy and pain, happiness and fear, laughter and tears. We share much with other parents about how to raise our dogs, how to care for them, how to keep them healthy. We share our triumphs, our mistakes. It's such a microcosm of the rest of our world. But there is something a little different about this place. These people are really nice people. Everyone that's here is a bit dog crazy & sees life from a positive perspective. At least that's our experience. We love giving what we can to others, and feel that it's returned 10 times more. We are blessed. We are thankful.

Milly, thank you for the legacy you left for schnauzers on dogster. We couldn't have done it without you - your gentleness, your encouragement, your support, your joy for life. We know you're watching over us and hope that someday you'll join us again. Take care of your parents, let them know that your spirit lives on. You live on in the hearts of many.

Here are 2 poems for Milly:

Bridge Called Love

It takes us back to brighter years,
to happier sunlit days
and to precious moments
that will be with us always.

And these fond recollections
are treasured in the heart
to bring us always close to those
from whom we had to part.

There is a bridge of memories
from earth to Heaven above...
It keeps our dear ones near us
It's the bridge that we call love.

Good-by To An Old Friend

Today your spirit chose to take flight and leave this earth,
And for a short time we shared all that was.

You made me laugh,
You made me cry,
You taught me to look at life through different eyes.

Your love was a constant, and you gave it freely,
Asking for nothing in return.

Today you are at peace.
I shall miss you old friend.

This has been a big week for our family. Saturday was Annie's crossing to the Rainbow Bridge Day. She got lots of love & support from the Rainbow Bridge Angel Babies and some of her Schnauzers Rule friends. Mom really needed the support through it cuz we both miss Annie a lot. Then on Sunday I was named Schnauzer of the Week in SR, and Annie was named Angel of the Week in RBAB!!!! Wow. Congratulations to both of us from lots of people. Then today I received an email stating I won 2nd place in Photo Contest 07. It was a contest someone had in the forum - just a fun one!!! Then on the 14th it would've been Annie's 10th birthday, and the RBAB angels are already saying happy birthday. Wow - lots of attention for us this week. We're feeling really loved and appreciated. We've always thought that the dogster community has been a great place for making friends and giving whatever we can to other pups & their parents. It's really nice when you get some recognition for it. Mom does a lot for us, and we know it makes her happy. Thanks everyone!!!!

Thanksgiving Tag

Here are the rules:
Because it’s Thanksgiving time, there is a change to the rules. Each player needs to tell seven special things they are thankful for. Tagged dogs must post the rules in their diary and their 7 things. Then choose 7 pups to tag and list their names. Let them know by pawmail or rosette that they have been tagged and to read your diary for the instructions on how to play.

Seven Things I’m Thankful For:

1. I’m so thankful that my mom and dad take such good care of me.
2. I’m thankful that I have such good health after 12 years.
3. I’m thankful for my dog walker, Paula.
4. I’m thankful that I get to go on family vacations, usually to the beach.
5. I’m thankful for the massages that mom gives me.
6. I’m thankful for all the tummy rubs dad gives me.
7. I’m thankful for all my Dogster friends.

I am tagging:
1. Murphy
2. Kiki
3. Duncan
4. Milly
5. Maddie
6. Bonnie

This is a fun game where you can meet and learn new things about some of your pals. Have fun with this!

Happy Thanksgiving from my pack to yours!

Weight watchers

I've lost 3 pounds this year! I was slowly losing weight from a change in my diet - lower fat, no treats except veggies. Then they starved me for 2-3 days at the hospital. When I went back to the vet, I had lost a total of 3 lbs. I'm sure some of it was from whatever was going on in my belly and some of it is muscle loss. Guess I better get back to the gym....

Today mom took me on a walk by myself. We went on my long walk since she knows it's my favorite. She worried about me getting into anything that could make me sick, and about me being tired. She did give me a break for a short while, something I don't usually need. But mom keeps remarking I'm like a different dog - I'm so energetic, I'm actually involved with the other dogs in the house, I'm bright eyed, and I'm not grumpy anymore. We don't know what happened but I'm doing really well! Do you think an alien took over my body or they did some implant in me when mom wasn't looking? Afterall, all this illness stuff took place right before Halloween. That's a great time for the aliens to come out. BWAH HAH HAH! Just kidding. Another thing - I've gained a sense of humor. It's good to feel good.

Well, we went to see Dr. Kim and Dr. Porte today. They gave me my walking papers, said don't do anything different than what we're doing now, and don't come back for 6 months!!! No medicines, no vampira visits, no ultrasounds. They still call me the Miracle Dog. The lymph node biopsy came back negative meaning no signs of cancer in my enlarged lymph node. I was so happy that I even gave one of the receptionists a kiss! Now to get home to dinner and back to my routines.

Oh and everyone said I looked cute and smelled good. I guess it wasn't so bad getting groomed yesterday! Mom is sure proud of me.

Very pretty now!

Well, Jackie our groomer came over today to bathe & groom me. Apparently, both front legs had been shaved all the way around for the IVs. So I had a puff of hair on my feet and below my chest which made it look so overgrown!. My belly was shaved too - kinda looked like a toupe on my chest. Dad said it looked like a Catholic schoolgirl's skirt blowing in the wind!!! So Jackie evened it all out and Mom says I look very beautiful. I go to see Dr. Kim tomorrow for my 1 week check up. Mom is so excited to hear what he has to say. Unfortunately, the vampire people will probably want some bloooood again, but no shaving. And they can do another ultrasound since my belly is already shaved.

I smell so good, mom keeps sniffing me. I'm feeling like a princess again!

Can you believe that after all I've been through, mom AND dad pulled out the brush and comb!!! They said I was matted and had shaved hair on both legs & my belly. I call it an expression of my individuality!!! After all, I think dreadlocks are quite interesting, don't you? And they're talking about a B-A-T-H!!! I know how to spell mom, you can't fool me. I've heard that one spelled a lot of times over the years. How did the Princess part get lost in the shuffle of me returning home from the hospital??? I have to go to the vet at the end of the week and mom wants them to see I'm actually a very beautiful schnauzer since I wasn't at my best last week. At least she tells me that to make me think a B-A-T-H is ok. We'll have to see about all of this! Hmmmph...

On my own for a few hours...

Today I was on my own for a few hours, that's if you don't count the other furry 4 legged critters in our house. Mom was going to work at home, but had to go in. When she left she said "The last time I left you at home to go in to work, you ended up in the hospital!" Dad was off but he left us for 3 whole hours while he did errands. Mom got home first and found me barking & wiggling & happy to see her. You could see the relief on her face. She said I'm doing really well.

She read the note from our dog walker, Paula, that said I had a good walk today. It was SO good to see her! Paula was the one who found me sick at home last week, and called mom & dad. Dad had to come home early and take me to the hospital. We're so glad that is all behind us.

Tomorrow both mom & dad have to go in to work in the morning. Paula will check on me. And dad will be home early. So no scary treat or treaters at the door without a pawrent here!!! I don't think Winston has ever lived in a house for Halloween - he's going to go crazy with the door bell ringing!!! It should be funny to watch.

Well, off to bed again. Sweet dreams everyone.
