Subject: Family in desperate need
by Robyn Christensen (c) 1996

Help Urgently Required! Please help! After two long years of being on a waiting list for an exotic rare breed dog, we were finally notified by the breeder that at long last, our number has come up, and... WE'RE HAVING A PUPPY! We must IMMEDIATELY get rid of our children now, because we just KNOW how time consuming our new little puppy is going to be! Since our puppy will be arriving on Monday, we MUST place the children in new homes this weekend!!!

They are described as: One male, white, blonde hair, blue eyes. Four years old. Excellent disposition. He doesn't bite. Name is Tommy. Temperament tested. Current on all shots. Tonsils removed already and very healthy condition! Tommy eats everything, is very clean, house trained and ets along well with others. Does not run with scissors and with a little time and training, he will do well in a new home.

One female, strawberry blonde hair, green eyes. Three years old. Can be surly at times. Non-biter, thumb sucker. Her name is Mary. Temperament tested, but needs a little attitude adjusting occasionally. She is current on all shots, tonsils out, and is very healthy and happy (mostly.) Gets along well with little boys, but does not like to share toys. She is house trained, and would do best in a one child household.

We really LOVE our children, and want to do what is best for them. I hope you understand, that ours is a UNIQUE situation, and we have a real emergency here! They MUST be placed by Sunday night at the latest. I hear that in Tennessee there are bins where you can leave off strays...does anyone know if there is something like that around here for children?

Wooooooofers!!

My mommy thought this is good tips!

My mommy gets this e-letter from the ASPCA and they had these super good tips for all da woofers and parents out dere of us fur kids. She though she would post dem in our diaries in case someone needs to know dem. So here it goes!!

NO SCAREDY CATS THIS HALLOWEEN: TOP 10 SAFETY TIPS FOR PET PARENTS
Attention, companion animal caretakers! The ASPCA would like to call your attention to these common-sense cautions that’ll help keep your pets safe and stress-free this time of year.

1. No tricks, no treats: That bowlful of candy is for trick-or-treaters, not for Scruffy and Fluffy. Chocolate in all forms can be very dangerous for dogs and cats, and tin foil and cellophane candy wrappers can be hazardous if swallowed. If you suspect your pet has ingested a potentially dangerous substance, please call your veterinarian or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435.

2. Popular Halloween plants such as pumpkins and decorative corn are considered to be relatively nontoxic, yet they can produce gastrointestinal upset should pets ingest them. Intestinal blockage could even occur if large pieces are ingested.

3. Keep wires and cords from electric lights and other decorations out of reach of your pets. If chewed, your pet could experience damage to his mouth from shards of glass or plastic, or receive a possibly life-threatening electrical shock.

4. A carved pumpkin certainly is festive, but do exercise extreme caution if you choose to add a candle. Pets can easily knock a lit pumpkin over and cause a fire. Curious kittens especially run the risk of getting burned or singed by candle flames.

5. Dress-up can be a big mess-up for some pets. Please don't put your dog or cat in a costume UNLESS you know he or she loves it (yup, a few pets are real hams!). For pets who prefer their “birthday suits,” however, wearing a costume can cause undue stress.

6. If you do dress up your pet, make sure the costume isn't annoying or unsafe. It should not constrict the animal's movement or hearing, or impede his ability to breathe or bark. Keep a look out for small, dangling, or easily chewed-off pieces on the costume that your pet could choke on.

7. Take a closer look at your pet’s costume and make sure it does not obstruct her vision in any way. Even the sweetest animals can get snappy when they can't see.

8. All but the most social dogs and cats should be kept in a separate room during peak trick-or-treat visiting hours. Too many strangers can be scary and stressful for pets.

9. When opening the door for trick-or-treaters, take care that your cat or dog doesn't dart outside.

10. IDs, please! Always make sure your dog or cat has proper identification. If for any reason your pet escapes and become lost, a collar and tags and/or a microchip increase the chances that he or she will be returned to you.

Hope dat every woofer has a happy howl-a-ween! Don't each so many goodies dat you gets an upset tummy!!

Woofers!

Mommy said dis was a cute story. And our kitty isn't quite as bad as da one in dis story!! She thinks she is a dog!! BOL

Where do pets come from?

A newly discovered chapter in the Book of Genesis has provided the answer to "Where do pets come from?"

Adam and Eve said, "Lord, when we were in the garden, you walked with us every day. Now we do not see you any more. We are lonesome here, and it is difficult for us to remember how much you love us."

And God said, I will create a companion for you that will be with you and who will be a reflection of my love for you, so that you will love me even when you cannot see me. Regardless of how selfish or childish or unlovable you may be, this new companion will accept you as you are and will love you as I d o, in spite of yourselves."

And God created a new animal to be a companion for Adam and Eve.
And it was a good animal.
And God was pleased.

And the new animal was pleased to be with Adam and Eve and he wagged his tail.

And Adam said, "Lord, I have already named all the animals in the Kingdom and I cannot think of a name for this new animal."

And God said, " I have created this new animal to be a reflection of my love for you, his name will be a reflection of my own name, and you will call him
DOG."

And Dog lived with Adam and Eve and was a companion to them and loved them.
And they were comforted.
And God was pleased.
And Dog was content and wagged his tail.

After a while, it came to pass that an angel came to the Lord and said, "Lord, Adam and Eve have become filled with pride. They strut and preen like peacocks and they believe they are worthy of adoration. Dog has indeed taught them that they are loved, but perhaps too well."

And God said, I will create for them a companion who will be with them and who will see them as they are. The companion will remind them of their limitations, so they will know that they are not always worthy of adoration."

And God created CAT to be a companion to Adam and Eve.

And Cat would not obey them. And when Adam and Eve gazed into Cat's eyes, they were reminded that they were not the supreme beings.
And Adam and Eve learned humility.
And they were greatly improved.
And God was pleased
And Dog was happy.

And Cat didn't give a s$*% one way or the other.

Thank goodness for kitties!! BOL

Please save the designer dogs in your local pound!

My mommy thinks anyone who thinks of breeding for money needs to think twice about breeding. The responsible breeder would breed for the betterment of the breed and would require contracts for pet quality pups to be spayed or neutered so this doesn't happen to one of your pups!!

Please rescue instead of breeding!

There are so many pups out there that need a good home. And all of them are so called designer dogs!! Don't be fooled by Hollywood! There are labra-doodles, puggles or any other designer breed in every SPCA, HSUS or local pound and for alot darn less than most people pay for them!! Don't let this be one of your pups outcome!

My mommy got this from a dogster friends (Thanks Abby!) and felt it was a good thing to pass around.

I AM FAMOUS NOW

I was born today. One of ten. My daddy was very famous. I have lots of half
brothers and sisters. My mother is very famous. Since she got famous, she
only has puppies. No more loving hands. No more fun trips...just puppies.
She is always sad when they leave her.

I left home today. I didn't want to go, so I hid behind my mama and my 3
littermates that were left. I didn't like you. But one day they said I would
be famous. I wonder-is famous the same as fun and good times? So you picked
me up and carried me away, even though you were concerned about me hiding from you. I don't think you liked me.

My new home is far away. I am scared and afraid. My heart says, "BE BRAVE".
My ancestors were. Did they go to "good homes", like mine? I'm hungry
because I can't eat too much because it will be bad for my bones. I can't
bite or snap when the children are mean to me. I just run and play and
pretend I am in a big green fields with butterflies and robins and frogs. I
can't understand why they kick me.

I am quiet but the man hits and says loud things. The lady doesn't feed me
good things like I had with my mother. She just throws dry food on the
ground, then goes away before I can come too close for touching and petting.
Sometimes my food smells bad but I eat it anyway..

Today I had ten puppies. They are so wonderful and warm. Am I famous now? I wish I could play with them, but they are so tiny. I am so young and playful that it is hard to lay here in this hole under the house nursing my puppies. They are crying now. I am so hungry. I scratch and worry at my fur. I wish someone would throw me some food. I am also very thirsty.

Now I have eight puppies. They got cold in the night and I could not make
them warm again. They are gone. We are all very weak. Maybe if I take them
all out on the porch, we could get some food?

Today they took us away. Someone grabbed my puppies. They cried and
whimpered. We were put into a truck with boxes in it. Are my babies famous
now? I hope so because I miss them. They are gone, and this new place smells
of urine, fear and sickness. Why am I here? I was beautiful and proud like
my ancestors. Now I am hungry, dirty, in pain and unwanted. Maybe the worst is unwanted. No one came although I tried to be good.

Today someone came. They put a rope on me and led me to a room that was veryclean and had a shiny table. They put me on the table and someone held me and hugged me. It felt so good!! Then I felt tired and laid down in the arms of someone who cared.

I AM FAMOUS NOW. TODAY SOMEONE CARED.

Thank you for caring!

Guess what my mommy did?

My mommy started a group for us. Not just us as far as Great Danes. She calls it the Gentle Giants Gymnasium. Originally she was going to just make it for Great Danes but then she decided she didn't want to limit our friendship with anyone! She felt dat sometimes small dogs can be Gentle Giants cause dere heart is so big and dere attitude makes dem a big dog too! We belong to another group dat we enjoy and going through some of da other groups, she wanted to create another positive place for puppers to go and haf fun! It is slow going dough! Not alot of puppers joining. But we shall see where it goes. If not, mom will keep it and just add stuff to it slowly. It is somewhere for us to play safely!!

Mason, you are my first foster and my first foster failure (failure was in not being able to let you go, although I succeeded in falling in love!). I fell in love with you the moment I saw your picture and heard you needed the love that was missing in your life. You have complete joy in everything you do even though the beginning of your life was not easy. Your outlook on life is so positive and full of love for everyone. And your loyalty to your family is never ending. You would die before allowing anything to happen to your family members and it is knowing that that true love exists that makes you so special to your momma. You show obvious unconditional love and a joyful outlook on life. Who couldn't love you so easily!?!?

XOXOXOXOXO

Momma

A day out on a picnic

Today I went on a picnic and boy was it tricky!!! My mommy put two leashes together and put it around a tree so I would stay in one place (cause there were a bunch of dogs there and they were alot smaller than me and haven't been totally socialized with other dogs either!) ... well I kept getting myself wrapped up in it! Everybody was laughing cause every time they would get me all untied, I would get all wrapped up again!! Mom said everyone could tell that I was never tied up before!! I just could not get used to those stupid leashes keeping me in one area! But we got piggie ears, tid bits of riblets, steak ... we didn't like the watermelon though. The texture in my mouth was icky!! Spit it right out! Mom said I didn't know what I was missing!! Oh! And we gots some doggy biscuits too. And we shared them with Chase, the weimeraner; Lexy, the boxer mix, and Rocky the chihuahua mix. When Lexy first came though she jumped up excited to see everyone and I thought she wanted to play so I went running towards her. Boy oh boy was mom and dad mad!! I broke a link on each of the leashes (they were a 6 in 1 leash and lucky for me, it was a link they don't use!!) and raced over to Lexy who thought I was attacking her so she attacked me so I started to defend myself! Mom and Dad and Lexy's mommy and daddy got over there before anyone got hurt. We got to meet again but mommy made me lay down. Something about being in the submissive position. I also was smaller than her then and less intimidating (whatever that is ... that is a mommy word I over heard!). And we did ok then. Lexy came from a really bad abused home before the good home she has now so like me she has her issues but is actually a very sweet dog mommy says. I just scared her when we first met. Mom says she has some pictures and will post some of them soon. She got alot of nice outside pictures of me she said. I am exhausted though. Even on the way home, I promptly laid down on the bottom of the mini-van (mom and dad had removed the center seat for us!!) and passed out. I am taking a nice long nap again when I am done here! So I am signing off for now! I am dog-gone tired!

Cool Beans! My dad is back! Things are getting to be back to normal. Well, as normal as they can be around here!! It is nice he is back. Me, I am a mama's boy so it is just an added bonus for me to have him home. I just love my mama to death! I would protect her to the death if I needed to. She loves on me and kisses me. Sometimes I get on her nerves though cause I am ALWAYS in her face she says but I love her and want her to know that I do!! And now I have to compete with Ms. Sadie who likes her attention too. And she is always following my mom! I know my mom loves me though so I don't have to worry too much about her replacing me. But I would love to have 100% of her attention 100% of the time! I LOVE my mom!! She is the coolest to me. I don't like to hear no from her sometimes (she says most of the time) but I take it pretty well I think (she says I am the only one that thinks that!!). And I don't bark and jump on the fence as much as I used to (she says only because she yells at me not to do it as much as I used to). Gee, I am just a young kid (she says I am old enough to know better!) and I try my best (she says she realizes it and praises me when I do good. I am doing better at my sits now than I used to!). But I know she loves me no matter what (she says she does!).

Mom says my time is up. She said she thinks she saw the tip of Maggie's tail going around the corner when she came to the computer so she thinks she already had her time "un-supervised" and if she finds out she did, boy is she in big trouble!!

Talks to you all later, dogster gang!!

Bow wow! And wiggles!

Mason Layne, off to raise cain!!

This house is confusing some times

Things seem to change a lot around here lately. First my sister Chyanne was gone. And mom was so unhappy. Then Grandma left. And a few days later dad left. Then mom was real unhappy. And she was unhappy for awhile. She really missed my sister Chyanne and my dad. And then a new sister came to the house. She is pretty cool. She isn't like my other Chyanne but she can be fun. She likes to try and boss me around. Most of the time I let her but sometimes I fight back. And then sometimes we just play fight. All in all, I like her. And she even gets along with my other sister which a lot of times Chyanne and Maggie didn't get along. Both of them like to try and be boss at the same time and just had to go to different rooms. They never played together. But they protected the house together. But I liked playing with Chyanne. We always had alot of fun. Mom says if Dad says it is ok, Sadie might stay for good like me (and like Chyanne was suppose to. Mom said something about the Rainbow Bridge. I go out to the bridge in our backyard and I never see her there so I don't know where she went!!). She is surprised that Maggie and Sadie get along. Maggie can sometimes be a very strong personality (whatever that means!!) but she and Sadie plays or trys to play but Chula sometimes gets involved and they quit playing. Chula is staying with us until February when she goes to California with her daddy to live with her mommy. Mom says that he is getting out of the Navy and they are going to start a new life a long ways away. Maybe one day we will see them again. Hey! Mom is feeding us!! I gotta go! You all in Dogster land take care!!

Woof! Woof!!
