Arrival Story:
Merlin is a puppymill rescue and the reason I became involved in rescue. I filled out an application and asked for an older, hard to adopt, female. Sue, the lady who runs the rescue, said"I have the perfect dog for you! He's 9 months old!" Merlin was the shyest dog in that lot of PM rejects. I remember when I picked him up, he almost clung to Sue, licking her face obsessively, as if to say "Please, please, PLEASE, don't make me leave you!" He spent his first three days at my house hiding under the couch. I firm "No" would cause him to cower. Gradually, over a period of months, he came around. It was all little steps: The first time he took food from my hand, the first time he went through a doorway, the first time he came to be petted. At this point, no one would ever know Merlin was a terrified PM reject. He loves everybody and manages to win everyone's heart with his sweet ways.
