Gosh! Sorry I couldn't woof sooner! I had a big, long comment all typed and ready yesterday, but when my paw hit "send" I just got a message that said "Problem loading page". Then I tried to go to one of my favoritest groups, School Fur Graphics, to post a pupdate, and I got the message again. *sigh* Anyway, I guess our internet went down, again, but it's back now and Momma and I are glad!
So, Momma went up the street to talk to the dogtor, but she was "with a patient" and wanted to call Momma later. Momma said that was fine - she'd wait. She waited for almost an hour, then told the lady to go ahead and have the dogtor call her.
Well, the dogtor finally called Momma at almost 7 p.m. last night and she was obviously in a huge hurry, talking 90 miles per hour, and told Momma if my test were to show liver damage they would give me "liver medication". Momma asked her if that would repair any damage or prevent further damage - how it would help me. The dogtor kinda hemmed and hawed and said it would not repair damage, whatever damage there might be has already been done, but the liver medicine would "help aid the other organs". *Hmmmmmmmm* When Momma told her she would try to reach Daddy at work and talk to him, the dogtor told Momma the blood test needed to be done right away or the blood wouldn't be good anymore. Momma asked her "The blood is okay now, at 7 p.m., but it won't be good at 7 tomorrow morning?" Nope. They would have to draw blood again and that would be another $53!
Momma told the dogtor she would get back to her.
OH! And, guess what?! Momma was digging in her purse and she found 9 mints spilled in the bottom! That's 9 mints that she thought I had eaten, but didn't! So I probably only ate about 4-6 mints, or so! That's still enough to do serious damage to a pup my size, but, like Flicka and a couple others have said, since I barfed 'em pretty soon after eating them, they probably didn't have much time to do their dirty work. The mints that came up were still whole, little mints - and so was all the kibble I lost, so apparently my body didn't want to digest them and throwing up probably saved me!
I'm doing great! I'm eating, drinking, pottying and playing. Momma's going to keep a close eye on me, and keep her money handy in her pocket. On Friday she's going to call Dogtor Nancy and relay the whole story to her. Dogtor Nancy has been at the clinic for several years longer than any of the others and Momma thinks she will not be happy to hear how someone who has been bringing pets there for 20 years has been treated.
Momma is praying that she's making the right decision, but she's pretty confident from what she's read, the way it all happened and how I'm acting, that I am a very lucky girl and I'm going to be fine.
And Momma will never let another product made with xylitol into our home - even if she thinks it can be kept away from us pups. It's one accident that won't happen if it isn't here for us to find.
So, maybe this Christmas turned out okay, after all! I got to eat a whole mountain of marshmallows and I've been treated like the princess I am, being smothered with even more lovin's than usual!
And once again, my family is reminded of how much our friends love us. As much as we love them! :D
Thanks, everyone, so much, for your love, support and Power of the Paw! You pulled us through another crisis and we love you!
*checks her watch* :O
I better go tell Momma it's time for my Phenobarb! I always get it in a marshmallow! ;) *giggles*
XOXOXO Zeldy ♥
Leave A Comment | 8 people already have great I'm sure you will be just fine, and now that Momma found those other mints in her purse...and I'm sure Doctor Nancy will ease Momma's mind on Friday too So glad to read the positive update! Sounds like you're going to be okay, Zelda Marie, and like Petey said, I'm sure Dogtor Nancy will ease your momma's mind on Friday.
Big huggss,
Nina Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
I am sure you are going to be fine. Irony is... some pups are affected.. and some not. It is highly doubtful you did more than wash the coating off !! GOOD!
I would be having VERY firm words with the vets all the same... it is extremely unprofessional the way you were treated. It certainly wouldnt inspire me to any confidence in the place. I know you like Dr Nancy.... speak to her and go from there.
