Best Tricks: Speak, roll-over, fetch, find the ball, bring it here. I have my RN! I run through tunnels!

Arrival Story: I came from the same place (a pet shop) as my pseudo-sister Cayce, but the following spring. My auntie thinks my real mom and dad spent their lives locked in cages being bred over and over again and again. She says buying dogs from pet stores, ads in the paper, and the internet are very bad things to do because it supports what she calls "puppymills" and "irresponsible backyard breeders." She says if my breeders were good people, they would only need word of mouth to advertise their well-bred puppies, and would be very picky about who buys them. But my breeders were not because they only cared about money. There is no heath record, or pedigree (pet shops don't keep records on dogs they've sold, BAD!) for me and my sister and we both have suffered SLIPPED-DISCS. My auntie hopes she has convinced my mom that it is bad to support such places, but she is glad that we are promised a permanent forever home. The whole family loves me and I love them! And I guess this new nephew, Timber, isn't so bad. I guess I have no choice but to get used to him.
I have my RN, TIAD, TGI JV-N, CTL2-R and 2 legs in NADAC Touch N'Go!

Bio: Honey belongs to the Master Pack. She is a sister to Cayce and a Auntie to Timber!

We think the shelter/rescue groups are the best place to start looking for a pet! Some of our favorite doxie friends are rescued dogs and do nothing but give us joy everytime we see them! Of, course, its important to screen your prospective shelter or rescue too. There are many homeless dachshunds waiting at the Dachshund Rescue of North America!

Honey has some good tips for screening breeders when buying a pet: "a good breeder screens their buyers, breeds rarely, provides all heath tests and screenings on the puppy's pedigree, SHOULD have a lifetime garuntee, wants you to keep in touch throughout the dog's life, and will help you with any problems along the way. They want to KNOW if a dog they bred were to have a disease appear! They will also sell the pets on a limited registration, and their contract will require you to spay or neuter your pet, or better still, they do it for you before sending the puppy home. Tip: a good breeder has a wait list, relies on word of mouth (in fact, many don't want, or need, to advertise), is active in their dog club, and breeds working dogs or comformation dogs, not to just produce pets. The best place to find them is the breed clubs and at shows and companion/working dog trials."
