Leave a bone for Sam (1997 - 2005)

Nicknames: Yosemite Sam, Sammy Brown, Sam-a-Bannana, Sammy Wammy PuddinMatammy, Samasaurus, Samaroo

Likes: PET ME - PET ME NOW, hey you, your hand is free - what gives? Pet Me. Yeah, right there, on my stomach, behind my ears, Keep Going...

Pet-Peeves: Only 2 cups of dog food a day?! I am a DOG - a creature of the wild! 2 cups in a mint green ceramic dish, yeesh, how embarassing!

Favorite Toy: Squeaky Red Ball, I LOVE my Squeaky Red Ball. My parents put it away usually, I just love to keep it in my mouth for hours - sometimes I forget what it is and I eat it. Maybe that wouldn't be such a problem if they fed me more.

Favorite Food: Anything but lettuce, actually, I will eat that too

Favorite Walk: Along the Mississippi (just part of it-not the whole thing)

Best Tricks: Suckering people - I get them all in the palm of my hand!

Arrival Story: My owner died, I think, so I went to the neighbors farm. There were a lot of people in a small house and I got pretty close with the resident dog. After she had our puppies, they sent me packing. Luckily, this guy Brian showed up. He was a lot like me - single, in between homes, sort of a lone cowboy in the Texas sun. We paired up and stayed in Texas for a few months. He was recovering from some illness - so we took it slowly, went on walks and he got back on his feet. Then he brought me to Minnesota. I guess he lived there before he got sick. It was a heck of a long drive, particularly because his friend Dave helped him, so the front seat was taken. I felt kind of insulted, having to ride on the floor of van. I like Minnesota. Honestly, I have too much fur for Texas and was always really hot there. Unfortunately, I had to have that surgery so there would be no more offspring. I did not like that, but I was really happy living with Brian. Then, one day he met this woman. She was ok, but she had a crazy mean dog. Brian married my now mom and I went through 6 months of trying to live with an evil sister. It was bad enough that she picked on me, but then she started to take more things out on humans, and, she would have panic attacks. My parents tried everything and my Mom was a complete basket case when my sister went on to a better place. Then it was like old times. Just Dad, the cat and I. And mom. It did not last too long though. It was Dad of all people that started looking for another dog. I think he lasted about 3 weeks until he brought home a new dog for mom. I was irate at first, until I realized that my new brother would do anything I told him to. We don't fight, but he knows who wears the collar in this family (after the cat of course).

Bio: My dad had a job out of town last year so he left us for a few months. My leg started to hurt and I held it up which concerned my mom. So I went in for xrays (my vet is the greatest vet in the whole world!) and found that my hip joint was in terrible condition. So, I had surgery. Mom got me through therapy. The bad part was they decided that I needed to diet. You should see them! I mean my dad is thin, but Mom! She could loose a few! But I have to diet. I am a dog! A fixed dog at that - I am not trying to impress anyone. They say it is for my hips. Whatever. Now I am the thinnest I have ever been. Sure, my hip feels good - but at what expense?!
