Arrival Story:
After attending a local dog show to try to get a feel for what breed we might want most, I spotted a little schip girl resting quietly in her crate. I recognized the breed, but I was amazed by how much more adorable they were in person than in photos. It's all about the expression! At the show, I found the breeder and spoke with her about our interest in a pet puppy. We met her dogs a few weeks later and absolutely fell in love with their antics, energy, and appeal. We waited 6 months for a Riptide puppy. We just love our crazy little Schip.

Bio:
Monkey dog extraordinaire, that's for sure. Eater of many things unidentified. Roller on what would appear to be fresh green grass, but is actually something very stinky like dead worms. Chewer of carpets, leashes (poor flexi number 2, you never stood a chance), couch undersides, walls, and kitchen floors. Owner and occupant of a comfy blue futon from where all his peoples' actions can be monitored. Protector of the apartment from all things that go bump in the hallway. Adorer of games games more games and the occasional nap in a cave. Apple of his peoples' eyes.

Schips for Fidelco!

On Saturday, May 19th Kody will attend his very first Walk for Fidelco.

Fidelco is an amazing organization which raises "heroes" (a.k.a. beautiful, intelligent, outstanding German Shepherds) as guide dogs for the blind. I've seen these dogs in action. Chokes me up every time... they do such good work.

So just a few weeks ago, our crazy little schip started up his very own website (http://www.firstgiving.com/schipforfidelco) in order to tell people about this great event to benefit Fidelco.

Oh Brother!

That's right, our little schippernut will soon be joined by another crazy small fast jumpy thing. We are adopting an Italian Greyhound who will soon have his own lovely page on Dogster.

His name is Wash, and he's beautiful!

a love / hate relationship with... water?

So it seems our Kodybear has a bit of a "drinking" problem. But not just drinking... it also appears to be a "stepping' problem. Notice the photo of Kody curled up around his water dish? And his dogster motto "Captain Wetfoot?"

Yes, well, about that...

Kody hates water. And he loves it. Now during bathtime, he gets that "Oh God just kill me now" look in his eye. Crossing streams or being asked to go anywhere within 10 feet of any kind of body of water? It must equal certain death in his mind. Those are terrible terrible things to be avoided at all costs.

So why then, does our little beardog not only drink from his water dish, but also plays in it and then sleeps in it? Every night? It starts with play time. First drinking changes from drinking to dunking. His little muzzle goes completely under the water as if searching for something in it to pick up. He'll chomp down on nothing but water. Maybe if he's lucky, he's going for an ice cube we put in there, but often there's just nothing there. I mean really, it's a water dish.

After that is the stepping. He'll be drinking and then he'll sort of change his mind. From there he steps a tentative paw into the dish. And then another paw. It's not uncommon to see digging after that. Water everywhere! Have we mentioned that our kitchen floor has been transformed into a small lake? Oh yes, always wet. Don't wear socks in the kitchen any more, that's just asking for a change of socks.

Oh, and then maybe, possibly, he might finally go to sleep. Just like the photo, he'll curl himself up between the dish and the wall, always with a back foot resting in the water. Always.

Strangest puppy ever... but oh how he makes us laugh. And change our socks.
