Houston you were one of the sweetest & lovablest dogs we ever had. You had to give everyone kisses, you liked to sneak them when they weren't looking! We were so glad that you loved your brother(not real brother, but that's what you guys became) You started slowing down in your 10th year but you never let us know that you were in pain. On May 27th, 2001, our lives changed forever. It was "Memorial Day", how fitting & ironic. We had just gotten home from seeing the movie " Pearl Harbor". You were soo excited to see us back home even though it had only been 3 hours since we had left you. It must have been your excitement that caused you to fall down the stairs. When you fell & broke your back becoming paralyzed the vets asked us how long you had had back problems. They said that you had so many calcified disks in your back that it was amazing you could walk. We were clueless because you NEVER showed it. You were so strong in hiding your pain. Dad & I would have paid thousands of dollars to fix you but you couldn't be fixed. We truly know not what a broken heart feels like, the day we had to let you go, we thought we were going to go with you. It was too sudden for us to handle. We can never forgive ourselves for not being there with you when they took your life. We just were not strong enough to do this, it broke our heart & we couldn't see them taking your vibrant life before our eyes. If we had to do it over again, Pumkin, we would be there.' Thank you for touching our lives like you did. I miss you waiting in the garden for me to pull up the carrots & wash them off so we could eat them together. I have NEVER grown carrots again. We will never, ever forget you. Love Mom & Dad. PS- we know it was you that stoled Daddy's steak from his plate!!!!
