New Adventures of a Retired Dog
What a day for a walkJanuary 7th 2008 7:01 pm[ Leave A Comment ] Today is a greyt day. The weather is nice and warm (and I don't care if I am from Wisconsin, I am a warm blooded boy!) and despite all the gray clouds, I was meant to be outside. My mom took me for a walk on her lunch and then my dad came home early and took me for a walk. After our walk, dad tried to watch a movie. But I wasn't walked out yet. So once he popped his DVD in, I started to stare at him...intently. After being as patient as I could, I started to whine. But he only let me out in the backyard. So I kept staring at him then whining, and then he fed me. The staring and whining thing was getting me nowhere...nowhere near the greyt outdoors! I don't think dad is very happy with me. He doesn't seem to be enjoying his movie.

My mom went to work the other day, and in my roaming of the house, I realized that she forgot to the gate up to the stairs. Woo-hoo!
Strange SqueakerJanuary 15th 2007 1:43 pm[ Leave A Comment ] The other night, I was out in the backyard when I found a black fluffy toy I had not seen before. I thought I had left all of my toys in the house, but this one was new. So I went for the squeaker, like I always do, and it made the strangest noise, different than any of my other toys. So I tried to move it to look in another spot when my dad came running out into the yard and took the fluffy toy away. I wasn't done squeaking it, but the toy seemed to be squirming, and my dad put it on the ground and it seemed to attach itself to his foot. I wanted to keep playing but my dad was holding me away. No fair that he gets to play with the toy that I had first. It still kept making this "REEERAAOOOOOWWW" sound even though it was on dad's foot. So I must not have found the squeaker. I keep going outside to find my new black fluffy toy, but it seems to have disappeared. And I still haven't made it squeak.
The ParkNovember 28th 2006 9:26 pm[ Leave A Comment ]
Over the weekend, my parents took me to a big empty park. We walked around for a while, and once in a while my parents would take turns running around. I'd jog with them, but boy are they slow. If I got too far away from them, I would jog over to where they were, but not so fast that I would over exert myself. I'm a RETIRED racer, for crying out loud.
Adventures at PetsmartAugust 1st 2006 7:20 pm[ Leave A Comment ] My parents took me to my favorite store this evening, and tonight I noticed something new: the small animal section. It was full of all kinds of little creatures that can zoom around really fast. I really enjoyed watching the guinea pigs run around, I could barely keep up with my head. A rat scurried up to greet me, and when I went to sniff it, I ran into a pane of glass. I cried a little bit, not because my nose was sore so much as I couldn't sniff that long tail it has. I have a long tail, but if that rat was the same size as me, it would probably look like a boa constrictor! It was not nice of those Petsmart people to keep me apart from my new friends. I was just trying to be grey-cious. All I know is, next thing my parents are talking about training classes, and we had to leave.
Protector of the worldJuly 30th 2006 10:41 am[ Leave A Comment ] Today I scared my parents. But what they didn't realize at first is that I was only looking to protect them. I guess I can see why they were surprised, seeing as how I hardly ever bark, but I get the feeling that they didn't take me too seriously. I pointed them towards the window, to show them what I wanted to protect them from, but my dad just started to laugh. They wouldn't let me out to get that rabbit out of their yard. Now look, I have been trained for most of my life to chase down this fast but dangerous rabbit. This is what I was meant to do. They wouldn't let me protect them, but they gave me a treat for spotting it though. I guess I will have to get them trained yet.
New toys!July 10th 2006 4:53 pm[ Leave A Comment ] Today I found a fuzzy little thing with a long fluffy tail. I tried to check it out and then it ran away, right up a tree. There are a lot of trees in the backyard and it turns out that they are full of those critters! My mom said that I should leave the squirrels alone. I guess that is what they are called. But I can't help but look at them running around the branches up there. This afternoon I guess I must have been staring at them, because I peed on my front leg. My mom laughed, and said she had to hose it off before she would let me back in the house. So my new goal, (besides learning how to climb those stairs in the house,) is to catch a squirrel.
Busy WeekendJuly 9th 2006 9:47 pm[ Leave A Comment ] Wow, what a weekend I had! Once I got over the whole making-me-ride-in-a-car thing, I went with my mom to visit my grandma. She lives in a family oriented neighborhood that has been hearing a lot about me! So many people had to come and meet me, and I really enjoyed the petting and hugs from the little girls that met me. I couldn't help doing my "Greyhound lean" against some of them in hopes that they would stick around. It also turns out that my grandma is a good cook! She made me ice cream called "Frosty Paws" that was really yummy. I couldn't help but lick every last inch of the bowl when I was done. The food just keeps getting better around here. Now if only I could avoid those car rides...
Day fourJuly 6th 2006 4:36 pm[ Leave A Comment ] Well, I've been here four days now, and these people are...well, different. They don't make me do anything, they pet me a lot, and we go for longer walks than at the kennel. There is a really soft pillow that I get to sleep on. They have a fenced in backyard where I get to wander around WITHOUT a LEASH! For so long, humans have been yelling at me to run, run fast! But these people, they see me start to run and get all worried, say something about my leg and tell me NOT to run... Do they know who I am? Strange people... There are so many new things to smell, and little voices in the next yard that I have yet to check out. I like to check out those little people. Someday I'll find them.
