Rottie left us on October 3, 2008. He was suffering, having been unable to walk since September of 2006. He went peacefully to the Rainbow Bridge, but will live and love on forever in the hearts of his humans. We won't - rather - can't - be without a furbaby in this house, so stay tuned for our new member - Coming soon!

A day in the life

Well, we're here to stay! We came to Grandma's on Mother's Day and we haven't gone home yet. I guess this is our new home. It's cool, though 'cuz we have a big yard with lots of trees that actually give us food, like mangos, lemons and tangelos. Of course, I can't eat that stuff, but it makes Mom happy to have all the birds and butterflies in the yard and the cool flowers and trees. The gardener better come tomorrow, though, 'cuz I can hardly see that egret struting around eating the fallen mangos.

I'm happy and I'm getting lots of attention! Grandma gets on the floor with me each day and massages my legs and my back and hips. Aunt Lillie and I still have stimulating conversations, so sitmulating that Dad is usually saying "Rottie! Quiet!" before I"ve even made my point! But I've got the best humans money can buy (and they've spent a lot on me, I can tell ya', especially for a "freebie" rescue dog like myself.

It's fun to look at the pictures of all the dogs!

Love licks, and later,

Rottie

The Move North

Well, it finally happened. Grandma and Aunt Lillie are too old to take care of themselves anymore (Boy oh boy do I know THAT feeling!) so we moved in with them. We have a big house in West Palm Beach Florida now and the yard is so big I can't even walk around it in one trip. It's a tropical paradise, man! We have hibiscus flowers in red and pink, purple and red bouganvillias, gardenias, birds of paradise (not the kind of birds you chase, these are really pretty tropical flowers and they grow right outside my bedroom window! Imagine that?! We have a mango tree and lots and lots of tall palm trees and even more pretty flowers. You know, we guys aren't usually into flowers, but it sure gives my nose something to do when I'm outside. I love this place.

Grandma is 83 years old and Aunt Lillie is 92. I'm 10 and 1/2 people years, so in dog years I'm up there, too. They love me and Aunt Lillie will let me have her toast crusts so I lay at her feet during dinner. Grandma holds my bowl for me so I can get into the corners. Now that I can't walk on my own anymore, it's hard for me to stand up to eat, so I get my dinner laying down. Talk about spoiled. That wheelcart helps, but I only use it to go outside for "business". It helps me "assume the position" if you get my drift.

Well, it's time for breakfast with the Ladies. Catch you on the frisbee side!

Licks and woofs,

Rottie

Yesterday I played ball!

Yeah, I know I'm old, but yesterday my inner puppy came through! I was just standing in the living room (yeah, me, Mr. Chariots of Fire with the wheelchair here, STANDING by mysweetself, in the living room) with a tennis ball in my mouth (I can have tennis balls now, Max is the one who used to peel them, thus ruining the fun for both of us!) and Mom looked at me and said "What?!?! You are STANDING there? AND you have a tennis ball in your mouth? Do you want to PLAY BALL, Mr. Weiler????" To which I immediately said to myself, I said "Self, she hasn't even changed clothes from work yet, and she wants to play ball? You BETCHA!" and I gave her a big toothy grin (which is no small feat with a tennis ball in your mouth, lemme tell ya') and I bounded (well, okay I lumbered, but I did my best to bound) over to her and let her try to take the ball away from me. I growled and made a really big deal over it, like I didn't want her to take the ball. Yeah, right! She pulled. I growled. We played the game. I eventually let her take the ball. She gave it right back. We did that about a hundred times. (okay only about 4, but it was fun!) Game over - on to dinner! Boy, humans are such pushovers! But ya' gotta love 'em.

Later, time to drool on something!

Lots O' Licks,
Rottie

I just lost my buddy and pal, Max, to cancer about a month ago. It’s sad, ‘cuz I miss him (he was around ALL the time – we stayed home together everyday while our humans went to work) but I sure am getting spoiled now that I’m the Sole Soul Puppy! I get more treats now (Max was overweight, so our treats were limited) and I’m feeling better myself. I’ve got more energy since my humans lowered my pain meds. I no longer need my wheelchair cart to eat – I can stand up for short periods of time, so I can eat dinner and drink water without getting hooked into that cart all the time. I still can’t sleep on the bed, though, ‘cuz Dad’s back is still bad and he can't lift me up like he used to. Not to mention, I have a tendency to roll and sometimes I fall off the bed. Which is not a good thing for my hips. So I sleep on my airbed at the foot of Dad’s side of the bed. It’s good, ‘cuz I always know when he’s leaving the room. I’m able to follow him now too, so I’m sorta feeling like a pup again! Catch ya’ later, I gotta go chase a cat in the back yard. I can’t catch ‘em anymore, but it sure is fun to chase them again!

Catch ya' on the flip side!
Lotsa licks,

Rottie

Mr. Chariots of Fire!

Hey, it's me, Rottie. I'm sure many of you know what it's like gettin' old. Man, it sucks! Not a day goes by that somethin' new hurts. Bummer! But through it all I know I've got the best humans biscuits can buy! They sent all the way to MONTANA (which from what they tell me is a long way from Florida, where I live . . .) to get me my own set of wheels. It's called a wheelchair, but I prefer to call it my cruisin' machine! Imagine my surprise when it showed up at our house. Mom was so happy she cried. Dad can maybe now rest his bad back (we're all gettin' old in this house, but Max is older than me!). It still needs a few adjustments, but we should be good to go in a few more days. I have a whole new lease on life!

I don't mean to sound like a commercial, but I'd like to have a word with your humans if I could. People, if your animal has a problem getting around and you can't lift them or just don't want to anymore, please consider getting them their own set of wheels. We got ours at Doggon Wheels. Just go to www.doggon.com and go from there. Mom says the people are really nice and they're all animals lovers, just like your humans. She says we're really blessed. We have such a great vet and let's not forget DOGSTER! And now we found this place to get my new rear legs. I've had trouble all my life with these back legs, so I look forward to letting my wheels do all the work for a change.

If you have any questions about Doggon Wheels, just email me and I'll get you the info. They're the best. I hope they don't mind me braggin' on them, they're great!

Well, I gotta go, my order for my spoke decorations just got shipped, so I have to go polish up my wheels. Mom's making me a license plate (she's good with that computer graphics stuff) that says "Mr. Chariots of Fire" That's what the vet calls me! Outta my way - I'm cruisin'!!!!

Later, kids! Woof, pant and all that doggie stuff,

Rottie

New photos!

I added a few new photos for you to enjoy!

The fifth picture, the one of me at the feet of that beautiful girl are of me and Layla at Grandma's a few weeks ago. She's one of my humans' two legged children (Max and I are the four legged variety). She's moving to Georgia and we had to go say goodbye to her. I tried to steal her shoes. That's what I do when I don't want you to leave. I steal your shoes. I didn't get very far with Layla, she found them. But I did give her a hard time about putting them on, so it made her stay an extra 15 minutes. I can be very persuasive.

The third to the last one is of me, Max and Grandma on the floor just outside her kitchen. We love to go to Grandma's and she loves to have us. She gets down on the floor and plays with us and hugs us and kisses us (See Max's page, he's got new pics too!) and we just have a good ol' time. Aunt Lillie is cool, too, but Max likes to think he OWNS her, and I can't get very close to have my picture taken with her.

Enjoy the snaps (oops, poor choice of words. sorry!)

A New Vet!

Hi! One reason I get to sleep on the bed is that I have bad hips. That displasia thing and arthritis. They've been getting worse, and my humans were shopping for doggie wheelchairs! But then we got a new vet and I've been taking Adequan shots. I feel better already! Only 2 weeks worth of shots left and then I'll be on maintenance! I'll never jump on the bed again, 'cuz it's just too much of a pain (pardon the pun). But Dad lifts me up and helps me down so I don't worry about it.

Speaking of no worries, it's time for my nap! See ya around cyberspace.

I haven't slept on the floor since I got here!

I’ve been part of this family for over 7 years, and you know, I’ve never slept on the floor since I got here. My previous owner (the one Mommy & Daddy rescued me from!) never let me sleep on the bed. It was the floor of the utility room. Imagine that! A Rottweiler not sleeping in the same room as its’ Master. Bad Master! Bad Master!

But then I came here to live (where I shoulda been all along). Now I sleep right in between Mommy & Daddy every night. Mommy always teases me and says she used to snuggle with Daddy like this. But I catch them snuggling on the couch so I know they’re not suffering!

Max likes to get on the bed, but he’s so BIG that he has to get off the bed after awhile or no one will get any sleep. He kicks, too, which I don’t. That’s why I get the prime real estate sleeping position in the house! I am one smart puppy! (*Yawn!*) And tired!

See ya’ later, I’m gonna take a nap!! :)
