Being with us! He likes to brushed and fussed over.
He carries around whatever is the most recent toy we gave him.
He likes chicken flavored treats.
Around the neighborhood.
He goes to get the newspaper each morning.
Our oldest daughter called the local shelter to see what kinds of dogs they had, and they told her they had a one year old golden retriever. We went to see him, but he was too big for her to take home to her small children. She adopted a different dog, and although I left without this golden retriever, I couldn't stop thinking about him. The next day we adopted him, and he has been a loyal member of the family ever since.
We think we probably saved his life, because he had bronchitis and eventually pneumonia immediately after we adopted him (as did some other animals at the shelter). With lots of tender loving care, he pulled through and grew into an even more beautiful dog. Not too long after that, he accidentally got the end of his tail caught in the door as one of the grandchildren was going outsite. The injury required amputation of a small section of his tail. Poor Casey! Even with a shorter tail, he is still as graceful as ever. Not too long after that, I was throwing a tennis ball for our other dog, Ginger (who, sadly, we lost to bone cancer) and didn't realize Casey was standing directly behind me. Oops! He got hit in the eye, and needed another trip to the vet. He was fine, but the vet jokingly: "Casey, if it wasn't for bad luck, you wouldn't have any luck at all!" He has been pretty lucky ever since, and is the most affectionate and loving dog that anyone could ever have. We think we are the lucky ones!
