Arrival Story:
TRIBUTE TO GABBY She came into our life about nine years ago, a little Lhasa puppy abandoned on our street, probably because of the seizures that she was afflicted with. She was crying and afraid so we invited her into our yard for food and water, a temporary arrangement we had thought at the time, but she soon captured our hearts and then our home. With treatment her seizures became manageable and she thrived, filling all the corners of our empty nest. Her long humanesque hair belonged only on a show-dog, but it was too beautiful to trim, so she stoically endured the necessary daily grooming for her entire life. She liked to ride in the car, whether across country or just to the store, but most of all she just wanted to be close to us, and she would wait patiently at the door all night if one of us was gone. During her last winter we began to see the toll that a lifetime of seizures and treatment had taken. Her hair was turning gray, her eyes were dimming and there was an unsteadiness in her walk. Her appetite waned until by spring she had lost a third of her normal weight. With her increasing frailty came accidents after which she would look at us quizzically as if she was trying to understand what was happening to her. The monster destroying her finally won, and during her last night of life she climbed onto our bed and lay close until the vomiting of blood began. Too soon, this little dog who had become an integral part of our life was gone, but her essence will always remain. Her little grave now occupies a cool and shady place in our backyard. It's sad that her first owners never knew the joy that this little "throw-away" dog would bring. We could have ignored this little sick and abandoned puppy that we invited into our life so long ago and avoided the expense and the heartache of eventually losing her..............but we would have missed being loved by and having one of the best friends that we have known.

Bio:
Gabby died just prior to her 9th birthday. She now rests in a shady place under the cool green grass of our backyard. We miss her.
