Arrival Story:
Amy Says: I'd had Cleo for almost a year, and thought she needed companionship, so I started checking out the shelters for a friend for her. I knew that for Cleo's sake she had to be submissive and not Black and White. For my sake she needed to be small and preferably short-haired. We'd already visited some puppies and older dogs with no great success, when two small dogs showed up at animal control. I went out to visit the other, a beagle cross. She was too aggressive, so the staff suggested I check out the other one, a really shy Corgi cross. Shy my foot. The moment they opened her cage, this little sweetie came right up to me and demanded to be picked up. Her temperment was great, and she and Cleo passed their visit with flying colors, and she's been a part of the family ever since. Initially, Penny had some behavior problems, and it was through her trainer that we discovered that she was a Swedish Vallhund - a pretty rare breed to end up in a shelter! Penny says: For about a week after I ended up homeless I wandered in and out of a lady's yard without letting her get near me. After a while, though, I got really hungry and let her take me in. She brougth me to the shelter, and there I had to sit in a cage where I couldn't see outside and people would walk by and look at me. Some of them were men - I don't like men very much. So I pretty much stuck to the back of my cage and barked at them. Well, the shelter scene was getting pretty old - they did not seem to realize I was a princess and should be treated accordingly - so when one day I saw a sensible looking girl come in I decided that I would go home with her. Luckily she understood, and I even got a sister out of the deal. Of course my sister is old and hairy, and not NEARLY as important as I am, but its still nice to have someone around to pester.
