"leave it." You put a small plush toy on his nose while he's sitting, then click your tongue, and he shakes it off. We're trying to teach him not to eat all small fuzzy things, in deference to the kitten.
We were searching for a rescued German Shepherd. Dad went to the SPCA to check one out, and there was Kairos, in a cage, in a room of his own, because the Director really wasn't sure how he'd be with other dogs. (Incidentally, he's great with them... very mature and low key, once he's had that All Important Initial Sniff.) He had been living in a rescue kennel for a few months, after spending his first 4 years in a heart medicine laboratory. At the shelter, his name was Tigger. We liked Kairos better. He's no shepherd, but we love him.
Kairos went through a puppy phase when he got here, because he'd never been in a house before. But now nearly 6 months later, he's adjusted well, and knows that we're all happy to take care of him.
If it's fuzzy, it's mine - and delicious

I don't know what cats are *for.* I don't actually know what they *are.* And it won't go *away.*
And on top of that, yeah, I've been kind of taking it easy lately. It's hot out there, you know? So I'm trying to settle in for the night and She gets this idea I need some nighttime exercise. There we are, taking off down the road and I'm thinking, sure, we can do this, I'll be back in my batcave in about ten, and then she just. Keeps. Going. Fast. She never walked fast before, but man, she would not let up this time.
I have a belly. I do. I'm not proud of that, but yeah, hot out. And the rain, merciful heavens, it rains every other day. You know about rain? It's wet. It makes me wet. I have no control over it and I do not like having no control. So I nap, big deal. Hounds, naps, it's a natural partnership.
She woke me up twice today. But I just--I do whatever she says, can't help it. She has this way, and she looks and says stuff and you just do. And you think, hey, I am my own master, in charge of my life. Only it's Her, and so somehow, it's all cool.
And besides, yesterday she gave me chicken for supper.
