Candy loved sitting in the window in the sunshine while her Mama did computer work. She liked to watch what was going on in the yard.

Arrival Story:
We bought Candy as a puppy for my oldest daughter's 16th birthday from a kennel in Missouri. My daughters and I agreed we wanted a fawn-colored Chihuahua. We spent quite a lot of time looking at all the fawn-colored puppies, walking up and down the rows of pens. But everytime we walked past this little black one she wagged her little tail and looked at us so eagerly, almost frantically trying to get our attention. We ignored her several times when we walked past her pen because we didn't want a black one, we wanted a fawn one. Finally, as we walked past her pen for the umpteenth time, the owner picked her up and said, "Why not this one?" She must have known this little girl wanted us. My daughter held her and little Candy snuggled right under her neck like she would never let us put her down and had found her home. We fell in love with her immediately and ended up paying $100 more because she was show quality instead of "only" pet quality. On the way home we named her Candy because she was so sweet. Our family has always said that we didn't pick her out, but rather, she picked us out! And we have always been glad that she did. When my daughter got married in 2003 she said I could keep Candy here with me since she was used to this home . I think both Candy and I were happy about that decision because we had long since become each other's favorite.

Bio:
Candy was a healthy little dog until her 10th year when she started having seizures. In her 11th year she also developed an enlarged heart condition and congestive heart failure. Her vet prescribed seizure medicine in April 2005 and heart medicine in June 2005. Candy wasn't as active after taking the medicines because they made her sleepy, but she was still alert and just as sweet. We had to take our little girl to the animal ER at 7pm on July 6, 2005 because she was having trouble breathing. After receiving all kinds of good treatment at the hands of a very kind vet, the little Chihuahua crossed the Bridge about 1am July 7, 2005, just 1 week short of her 12th birthday. Her little body now rests beneath the red oak tree near our house. It was a blessing to have owned and loved such a sweet little dog.
